This can't be surprising. Remember this is a company who charge £10 for a 'mould line remover tool' and responded to major QC issues by releasing liquid green stuff for customers to fix the problems themselves. I'm actually a little shocked this tin actually contains any dice, and they're not just an extra purchase...

Okay, perhaps amazing is not the best word to have used. Depressing would probably have been more accurate.

I looked at the design on the tin and added the dice to my cart. Then i noticed the less impressive logo on the dice...and changed my mind.

That's... something. I didn't notice that the first time around. The die on the tin is different than the ones inside of it.

Yeah, it's kinda disappointing. I'm not sure why they even bothered putting that die on the tin if the design on the dice was so different.

*cough* http://dice.co.uk/

They make custom dice.

Back on topic though. What is the likelyhood of the rumored BA vs 'Nids starter edition box I keep hearing about?

How are we not already on-topic by talking about the Tyranid dice, which are part of the new Tyranid release that this thread is dedicated to?

There's also the issue of getting custom dice with logos/symbols on them that you don't actually own. Some dice companies might not actually go for that for fear of getting into legal trouble. Also, on the site you linked it says the minimum order for special dice is 1000 pieces...people are scoffing at $17 for the GW dice tin, but if I had to guess I'd say ordering them custom is likely going to set you back far more than that, for the trouble of printing a custom design and making them in such a large quantity (do you really need 1000?). So if you were really interested in custom Tyranid dice the safest and easiest option would actually be to buy the dice tin GW's offering.

And to answer your question, about as likely as it was a day ago. That is to say, it has equal chances of either happening or not happening, and we won't have anything concrete until someone has White Dwarf scans or it shows up for pre-order on GW's website.

I thought me linking a post about a company that makes custom dice (like for instance this guy had some SoO ones made... http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212123-sons-of-orar-blog/page-19 I can't link the image but, it's on the thread,) would be off-topic? Just trying to be a good "dakka newguy" lol.

So I was looking at the new model in 360 view and noticed this:

I don't really get what this is supposed to be, or what it's supposed to be doing. I mean I know we're talking about an alien and everything and it doesn't have to make "sense", but I personally feel like the model would look better without it.

I'm warming to the Cthuluvore. The Brainbug is stilly one of the most lazy GW releases in quite some time (design half a bug in a boring pose... mirror image!), and has some of the worst Tyranid rules since the Pyrovore, but I'm kinda starting to like it as well. What can I say, I'm a die-hard Tyranids fan and have been since before the 'Nids even had a real Codex. I can't stay mad at the Hive Mind.

Last I can remember was during Apocalypse I. The new Space Marine Vindicator kit came out as the linebreaker squadron of 3 tanks before being released as an individual box. The squadron had both marine and CSM sprues as well, while the individual tanks had the light and dark flavor boxes. Same with the Autarch on bike in the windrider box at the same time, that later got a general release.

The current War Walker came out as a box of 3 before going to 1 per box as well.

Spoiler:
Oh that's there so the Ultramarines/Space marines in a black library novel can control it against the hive mind by using it like a set of reigns with their powerfists by manipulating that exposed bit of spinal cord there. They will do this for their spiritual liege- *blam*

*Ahem* I feel terrible now.

What is the deal with that ? Did they try to make a support or something? Would the back/head region not stay up on the model? Haha.

It kinda looks like it's supposed to be a spine, but that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. And all the toxic crap is in the huge-ass torso, so there's nothing on the lower abdomen there that would warrant having a toxin-transporting tube attached to it. And it's on the brainy one too, so...

I dunno, it just bothers me for some reason.

Normally I don't go this far back to quote a post without having finished the rest of the thread, but I just feel I have to respond to this. First, while I am by no means a WAAC player, I do like to have a fair chance and if I am going to drop 73.00 on a model, I am not putting it on the table just because it looks so awesome. Yes, I chose Tyranids because I like the aesthetic (mostly) and the background, but that doesn't mean that I am putting my models on the table just to display how cool they are and then get them shot off the table, I would like to have a fair to middling chance to win without having to see my opponent's list first or having to build with a narrow range of the models in the army, not to mention the fact that most of the better models for the army aren't even in the fething 50.00 copy/paste codex. I know I am beating a dead horse, but why do Tyranids - supposedly the quintessential Monster army - get most of the worst MCs in the game? As far as the painting, this is where we get into the differences between different players - I play this game to play this game, most of the time I paint because I get shamed into it by other players, so maybe you see painting big bugs as fun, I just look at it as more work.

Yeah I wouldn't call it "screwing over the playerbase". They're supporting the army between Codex releases, and that part is great. I would call it a damn crying shame that one of the units seems to be mediocre and the other one basically unusable.

I feel they have supported me by allowing me to keep my 73.00

Well I'm probably not buying it, lol. But thankfully yeah, it does look rather easy to just leave off the model.

I was just complaining because aesthetically it kinda ruins what would otherwise be a perfectly decent sculpt, in my opinion. It's just like someone saw that empty space from the side and thought "No, no, something needs to be there!", and just stuck a bit on there with no rhyme or reason. I like the silhouette without that bit though, makes it look a little more bull-like to me. Especially the maleceptor, I could imagine that thing charging head first into a whole group of guys and knocking them around like rag dolls.

Good post.

It goes without saying that things you personally might find to be "awesome" are generally not always going to be awesome for other people. Just fielding a big model might be entertaining enough for you, but don't imply that other people are "doing it wrong" if they want something more. Same with painting big models, it might be fun for you but it's a chore for others. And others still might not find the point in spending the time building and painting said big model if it gets removed very early in the game while accomplishing exactly nothing.

GW are all about awesome concepts, but have quite a few examples of failed execution. This bug is one of them. You are correct, it's a fine concept, but the model is lazy.

The head is a return to this Zoanthrope design which was quite cool although the miniature was lacking (the hands are terrible)

The spine... It is one? Hmm.. There is a similiar pipe on the old Exocrine model from Epicast

The pipe does look stupid though but it somehow fits into the old-school tyranid esthetic which always had armour plates combined with 'weak spots' in a really weird combination. The old Dominatrix model with the Gigeresque navigator on its back was one of those. So many pipes on top of the armour all over it :p

I dont defend it - just trying to understand what may have been in design studio peoples mind when creating these miniatures. The new photos make them look better but only the Toxicrene is growing on me so far

Exactly what I thought. Looks even worse on the Maleceptor, hugely armoured but an exposed spinal column. And an exposed brain. Very silly.
