Sorry, misread. If you build the Storm Talon with the missile launcher parts you can switch them out from Typhoon to Skyhammer between missions depending on what you're fighting, but whatever you build it with it won't help you against a Land Raider. Look into multi-melta Land Speeders and drop pod melta-Sternguard.

Popping AV14 is not the talon’s job. You should be using it to keep the skies clear and then go after MCs/medium/light armor. For that, the skyhammers are probably your best bet.
If you do want to go hunting for tough targets, take the LCs. While the S8 TML can, in theory, glance a HP off of a LR, you are going to spend most of the game bouncing missiles off its hull like the pattering of a gentle rain.
It’s not that the TML is useless. But it is pricy, and will not do the job you want it to.

I have a Razor back with a double barrelled LC so i guess it will have to do for now.

Honestly? 90% of the time the best solution to a Land Raider is to ignore it and kill everything else/play to the objectives. The three main-book variants either have to get close with normal vehicle move speed or have all of two shots a turn at range, and a loaded Land Raider can only camp one objective.

Before I got the Gunship i always used to focus on the Raider so now i should focus on taking out every thing then the Raider. cause when i would be attacking the Raider the infantry would be attacking me and picking me out. wow I've got to think about my strategies better. Automatically Appended Next Post: And today is the first day I'm going to use the Ship. Yay Automatically Appended Next Post: So what would be best to the out infantry

Hard to go wrong with Skyhammer talons.
Dont just ignore the land raider
Dont forget that most things that pop out of a land raider will probably toss your salad any day.
Bullets take out infantry best....

It’s hard to give specific tactical advice without having the whole picture. Generally LRs don’t put out a lot of firepower for their points, but are very tough to most weapons. They also suffer from split role: are they a taxi or a tank? If they move fast to deliver their cargo, they don’t shoot well. If they stand back/slowly advance, their cargo in killing time in a box with no fire points.
I always try to include some fast melta in my lists to deal with LRs and things like them. This can be anything from drop podded melta tacs or sternguard, or bikes and speeders. The idea is to get close quickly, and kill it in its own deployment zone. This way the cargo has to foot slog it through the open to do anything. If you rely on stripping HPs off of off LRs, you are either going to have to pour your entire army into it, letting the rest of his force have free reign, or take so long doing it you end up with a face full of assault terminators. Neither of these is a good option, which is why I advocate a surgical melta strike.
To bring this back to the talon, look at what it can do:
It’s a flyer, with all the pros and cons that brings. Notably, it’s one of the few ways to get TAC AA fire into out list.
It’s a scrappy little bird. Not the toughest thing in the air, but reasonably priced for what it does.
You have the 360 TLAsC chin turret and a choice of weapons to support it.
The TLHB are free. And that’s about all they have going for them. If all you are hunting is light infantry, sure, it’s the budget option. But shell out a few points for some flexibility. Frankly there are much better things for dealing with light infantry then the talon.
Skyhammers. Not TL’d, but with strafing run you are BS5 against most ground targets. S7 can put wounds reliably on a lot of targets. 3 shots is a good rate of fire, and the points are still reasonable. Good synergy with the assault cannons, both in S and AP. (my personal preference)
TLLC you only get one shot, but at S9 and AP2, which if you are primarily hunting tough armor is very nice. The low RoF hurts if you switch to hunting infantry, or trying to get wounds off monsters. As one of the things that is going to be vying for air superiority is FMCs, I view this as a problem.
TML is not a bad compromise weapon. Good S, with the option to swap to blasts if you need to thin the hordes out. My big issue with it is the price, which I think is a little high for what it does.

I always suggest you take the lascannon.
It's twin-linked, has great str and ap and works well with the assault cannon.
If you want anti-infantry, get a thunderfire cannon or something. The talons job is anti-elite/tank/air. Give if the weapons for that job.

I wouldn't say the las is better for the anti tank/air roll
Especially anti air considering its 1 shot and a single jink will null it.

The main thing is that you're stuck with that Assault Cannon, so you might as well pick a weapon that excels at engaging the same sorts of targets - the skyhammer missiles. Taking a Lascannon or a Typhoon ML confuses it's role too much.
