Hey Guys
I am starting one of the most ambitious projects I have ever envisioned.
Turning the first Imperial Guard Regiment codex regiment list into models. There are at least 51 infantry (more if we do the rough riders and tank commanders) to be done.
I have got a painter by the name of Andy to do create and colour these models into (hopefully) some masterpieces to display in my little hobby area.
I update on my blog here http://theimperialpatrol.blogspot.co.nz/2014/12/perhaps-greatest-guard-project-ever.html But im happy to update it here too! Infact here will be constant updates there will be milestone updates.
So wish me luck, any advice at any stage is appreciated. A big thanks to Andy for taking on the project too.
So here we go!
So first up as of 19/12/2014 are the Fists of Lagus.
This guy is currently in the planning phase. Now is the best time for ideas on bits, colours and basing etc. I will update ASAP.
Here are the full pages:

This should be worth watching! I did something similar with the SM legions a few years ago, but nothing on this scale!

Cheers mate, honestly im trying not to get too excited because something like this can potentially be big failure. But im sure if each model is tackled one at a time it can be done... I hope. Thanks for looking! Space marines have a lot more depicted colours and lore but what the Guard have is lots of uniform variety beyond colour and symbols. So less but more work I guess. Maybe this will inspire you to continue with yours. Cheers

Are you doing one mini for each regiment? If so is each one more of a mini diorama style on a larger base?
For the first entry there's a quilted armor torso on the Empire Militia sprue.
The open faced version of these http://puppetswar.eu/product.php?id_product=87 might be a starting point for the helm depending on whether you think it's a crafted item or just a kroot head hat.
I'm sure you've started sourcing bitz already but I'll give you a list anyway:
http://maxmini.eu/
http://www.madrobotminiatures.com/zencart/
http://victoriaminiatures.highwire.com/
http://puppetswar.eu/
http://www.blightwheelminiatures.com/
I can personally recommend all of those guys, specifically for their IG bitz, with the exception of puppets war who I haven't ordered from yet.
If you find you need anything sculpted I can confidently recommend http://mywayminiatures.com/
Great service and you'd be surprised how incredibly affordable custom sculpted bitz can be.

Just the one mini per regiment yes. All on a single base (I need to be able to fit it in a moderate display case) but maybe, depending on how the first one goes we will do a larger base. All these will be confirmed after the first one is complete.
That head is pretty close to the product. Ill definitely pass that on to the planning sheet, cheers mate.
Yea I have all those in my big list (and more!) so its just a matter of spotting the right bit for the job.
Thanks heaps foe the sculpting link though, ill keep that if we reach something that cant be done!
Cheers for the help mate. Really appreciate it!

What do you think of a random test scheme? I was a bit bored so had a mess around. Went for a more leather look overall?

I picture the Fists of Lagus as Myan style soldiers. So I would have went for a bronze/gold headdress and armour. But I kinda dig the native American theme you've hit upon.

I was going to go myan but since there are a couple mayan/Aztec looking guys and no native American looking ones I went for the scheme above. Simply for variety.

My partner thinks the uniform is super American, and that the name Patria sounds like Patriotic when you say it. So maybe I was spot on with the colours?
Ill ask him to add a tomahawk to his belt actually.

Really awesome project! I happen to own this codex and used to love looking at these very pictures, so I love that you'll be bringing them to life! As far as bits are concerned, for the hat I could only reccommend trying to use perhaps an eagle head from the SM commander backpack?
Keen as to see more, also SUP MATE! A fellow New Zealander is always fantastic to see!

Thanks mate, I know how you feel, I got this codex last year and have loved reading it. I really hope the project works out so we can all appreciate it etc.
The parts are already decided upon, when the first test model is complete you can see for certain what we have used. Turns out there where a few options out there!
Thanks for reading dude, who knows maybe you will see them in person one day haha.

I'd figure that would actually look better as a severed and hollowed out Kroot head helmet.
That said, I have to applaud your blog's title and I look forward to what you come up with.

The guy has the heads and sculpting is being done, some delays as expected from the holiday season but he has officially started. So we will see what he does with the plan so far...

Unfortunately the guy who was going to do this project has had to pull out of it.
So im currently looking for someone else to do this now. If you know of any commission painters that you think can do a project like this let me know, I have sent out some inquiries and so on so hopefully we can get someone started in this ASAP.
So with one month the delay already on getting started hopefully things can pick up soon.
