might be a stupid question, im kind f new t0 40k but... how do you play an army with no hq? are they just allies or something? just seems like models i cant use unless it had an hq. also, where did you get the info that there will be no hq? some form of leak i immagine.

Through the formations that are in the book. The formations give you specific setups that don't include HQ's, but still allow for a legal army.
Of course GW could alleviate this problem by just having a Great Harlequin/Skitarii Tribune entry, and a single clam-pack, but apparently not.

in addition to formations you forgot the special detachment, which only requires 2 units of troops. (and can have 8 troops, 2 fast attack, 4 elites and 4 heavy support) instead of OS it grants scout (can't outflank though) and crusader, your WL also gets favored enemy. so even though there's no HQ it sounds like Skiratii will be plenty flexable in allowing deployment. from a "Game mechanics" POV given the lack of DT I'm not sure I'd want to give Skiratii the CAD even if they had a HQ.
intreasting thing is skiratii come in squads of 5 minimum, sio you could get the minimum units required to run skitarii from a single troops box.
given how flexable skitarii are for deployment, that at least is a good thing. it's not like harlies where if you wanna run em you have to make a fairly signfcigent points investment.

Adeptus Mechanicus HQ are usually a) Safely monitoring the battle from orbit or b) Safely monitoring the battle from an ultra-super-secure command post planet side lol.

This Skitarii release, to me at least, seems a bit like putting the mechno-horse before the techno-cart. I mean, they wouldn't release the Imperial Fist supplement before the Marine 'Dex, so why have they done so here?
I just doubt there will even be a proper AdMech 'Dex, or an HQ choice for the army I've waited years and years for.
it makes perfect sense. you're thinking about the MT as a source for comparison but there's a hole in your logic. MT is a expansion for a product line that already existed. there are already plastic LRs, plastic guardsmen, plastic Chimeras etc.
the new Skitarii codex is the starting point here. with any luck it'll be wildly sucessful and GW's already moving to expand it.
Well you could look at Plogs ( I'm not sure of sales but I'm sure we have the odd lgs staff member who could say how there going at least from that point of view) and I've only seen people add stuff to their Mechanicum armies. Not starting new Skitarii forces. I'm quite wary of stuff like this especially as they could just fold them into an IG dex or completely remove them next edition. Or push them into the sidelines like S.o.B
Since mine might not get played as no conversion rules for 2nd exist as yet ill be converting a tech priest and servitors as I said before a simple clampack would have made this a more awesome release and been a plastic kit for AM/ IG as an enginseer and here as a tech priest overseer.

That's kinda a cop out imho as I remember there's a Magos sect that's obsessed with " testing" weapons on enimes. There kinda like non evil Oblitorators

The Skitarii book looks like it's dealing with a small sub-set of the Skitarii from Mars, rather than 'generic' Skitarii. There are also rumours of a Ad Mech Myrmidon box and a Secutor Clampack so we might see these later on.

The background in the book I'm guessing will be fairly limited as the newer books are but ill be getting the digital version.
And I'm unsure if they cut stuff out of those.

The skitarii dex seems awfully FORCED.
Here are some ok units, but not really enough for make a stand alone army. You know what, have scout, and +3 BS or WS whenever you want it, and PE on your warlord.
Starting the game with BS7 is poor game design. O look everything I have autohits. Pinpoint blasts knock everything you have out. Its fun and balanced.
I bet the admech dex will have a bunch of cool units, but that doctrine impertitives will be toned down. Or at least better designed. At least I hope.

Potentially painting under/around some basing details that I don't want the cracked earth to get onto. Something that would be easier to paint over and not look weird if it got onto other things.
Have not used the cracked earth paints yet and will require some experimentation to see how well it'll work for what I have planned.

White Dwarf 61 had a showcase of the Martian Ironearth and said that they used Kindleflame to highlight the Ironearth for the Studio models, if that helps you any.

The main forge world(s) of the Calixis Sector. Anyway, I didn't invent the Lathe Worlds (although I did kinda invent how they came to be), and I created the unique not-Skitarii forces that they have, but the Lathe Worlds are Black Industries' invention IIRC.

They are the Forge World which supplies the Cadian Gate region with most of its arms and armor.
The little fluff snippet that GW put up suggests that Agrippina's Skitarii Legions rival Mars in number, and that the Forge World has mounted raids into the Eye of Terror.

Odd then that their lasguns come from Kantrael, unless Kantrael is a forge complex located on Agripinaa.
