I'll sayt that those are perfect Chaos conversions materials.
use the Tracks from the Kataphrons for Rapier Battery from IA13 and the Robot can be a good base for a Contemptor dread, change of Head, add a weapon to the right arm and your good.

When I think about it, robots are typically simple on the outside with clean lines, etc. But then again the FW versions look much more grimdark.
Still, I have a hard time not thinking Big Hero 6.
Great now every time i see a metalica version im never going to un see that.
After seeing the initial Skitarii range and hearing that we'd be getting Cult Mechanicus robots, I began to worry that I might regret splurging a bit more on a 30k Mechanicum force when there were potentially some really nice 40k robots for me to get instead.
Alas, I can say that my fears were unfounded, and I'm very happy with my decision to stick to Mechanicum. Those robots look rather terrible. Not only are their designs overly simple, they just don't look the part either. IF I didn't know better, I would have thought that they were giant men in scuba suits. Maybe if the head was removed and replaced with a dome-like structure seen on the Forge World stuff, then it would look a bit nicer, I think. In any case, when I think AdMech, what comes to mind is Forge World's Mechanicum and twisted cyborgs. Not this giant...thing.
Plus, we already have a reimagined Castellan robot in the form of the Castellax, why make another, inferior version? They could have at least gone and created something a bit more unique.

There is alot of things wrong with the robots. The servo arm holding up the flamer over the shoulder looks dinky as hell not to mention the odd gas tank sticking out sideways. The upper arms are tiny and weak while the fists are enormous. The area above the knee looks vulnerable. The armor and head is basically featureless. This doesn't mesh with the known mechanicus stuff and steampunk vibe of the rangers/vanguard and industrial look of the Kataphrons. There aren't any steam pipes, cogs, data tethers or any techy stuff on these guys. They look like cartoony action figures you'd give to a five year old with no sharp points or bits because they had to make the toy very child safe. They might be salvageable, but remember when people first saw the Onager they didn't like it and felt it was ugly. After seeing more images alot of people changed their minds.

At risk of being contrarian (again) I have to say I love the robots. I'd even go further - I prefer them to their skull-laden FW counterparts.
Their clean, simple lines, retro looks and appalling lack of skulls send a pretty powerful message: These machines are ancient even by Imperial standards, the product of a technology that probably predates not only the Imperium but the Mechanicum as well.
War does not determine who is right - only who is left.

I still don't think they look bad, just kinda out of place. Head aside (which I actually like, being a fan of old diving suits), the body is actually very Space Marine-y. Hell, it looks quite a bit like a contemptor.

Depending on the price point for the box of five, I expect Empire Flagellants will make very quick and fairly easy Electro-Priest conversions. Just a thought...
Those robots are lovely and retro. My Oathsworn bots will blend perfectly with them! Interesting that they took a completely different take on them from FW. Guess it lets players choose what they want, I myself want both.
Tracked servitors are awesome as well though I never doubted that for a second. Even GW couldn't screw that up...
The new robots look about the right size for these guys to work as stand-in's.
The Zealots are 120mm tall (4") so are going to be more than a bit taller than the new GW robots which are looking like 3" tall to the top of the head (assuming they are on 65mm bases).
Lots of Robotech etc. toys out there that might provide alternate sources for "counts as" models.
As others have said, I don't think they go with the aesthetics of the rest of the AdMech kits. They will be on the "do not buy" list along with the Onagers. Going to need better pics of the electro priests before making a decision.

That is seriously the worst idea I have heard on dakka in probably forever. It makes me wonder if you are hoping to get hired by GW suggesting pricing like that.

Keep in mind that we've only been shown one variant that is built by each box. There may very well be alternative heads for the robots. I agree they look a bit out of place, but I don't think the lazy red paint job is doing them any favors. I wonder why they didn't continue their beige/red trend from the Skitarii release. They sort of look like reverse-engineered Tau Battle-suits. How heretical!
Tech Priest Dominus looks like a perfect Ad Mech Warlord. His posture is dynamic, and I love that we get another servo skull design with him!
The electro priests also suffer from a very basic paint job. With proper skin, AND a decorated robe they would be exceptionally impressive units.
Something makes me think the robots and the priests are alternative color schemes from what would be used on the box art. Maybe the 'EAVY metal figs were unavailable for the photoshoot?

A simple fix for the robots I am planning on. If those are the only heads I am gonna cut away the visors and create a hollow cavity for a nice servo skull in there. (Please excuse my MP level picture editing...)
Paint a few of the panels copper, give it plenty of battle damage and you've got yourself a neat looking machine.

Hopefully his old sketches will manage to provide ideas for years to come.
I think you could just smooth over the visor so that it appears to be one solid piece of metal
Are they meant to be full AI that the Mechanicus is just not telling the rest of the Imperium about?
They have a controller, so I'd assume not AI, unless he's just for show.
Inquisitor Thunderface: "And, what do we have here?"
Techpriest Radioshaq: "Perfectly normal remotely controlled murder-bots. Beep."
Robbie-008: "Emotions..so many emotions!!"
Thunderface: "What was that?"
Radioshaq: "I sneezed, sorry, this place is super dusty. Bloop."

Funny that was my first thought too. Maybe with Blood Angel mask heads and a bit of wire.
But I'll still be buying my cyber shaolin lightning kung fu monks.

Your idea is much better than mine... I was going to try to lure my opponent into thinking they are harmless friendly robots:
I wonder why the new robots lack the aesthetic of the Syndonian dragoons. I think that would have made them look much better, plus it would have been more true to Jes' original pieces. As they stand, they look generic enough to belong to ANY game.
Well, I've been much more impressed with FW's Mechanicum releases, so it would have been hard for GW to have surpassed that.
EDIT: sorry, meant the dragoon walkers, which have an aesthetic similar to the imperial knights.
