Subject: Adeptus Mechanicus for 40k p134 servitors, electro priests, robots
trephines wrote: I don't know how to properly articulate just how disappointed I've been with the 40k admech release so far. It's not terrible, but it's in no way lived up to much expectations.
Everything's just been close, but not quite up to scratch; the skitarii stuff is all too pristine and uniform. I guess it's not grimdark enough. Admittedly I adore those new servitors, but that's just because they're the same aesthetic as the FW tech-thralls. The new techpriests are cool, but I still prefer the FW titan one...
I'm of the same general opinion, not grimdark/creepy/Blanche enough. Skitarii and perhaps electro priests the need some creepiness added. There are a couple plastic box sets from the Enlightened faction of Wild West Exodus that might help. http://www.wildwestexodus.com/enlightened-hired-hands-wave-2/ gives five infantry figs on four legged walking platforms similar to the Onager as well as five monowheels for your Orks or perhaps even Skitarii. http://www.wildwestexodus.com/enlightened-hired-hands-wave-1/ gives 10 more zombieish figs with weaponized arms as well as mechanical and mech-assisted legs and arms. Looks like quite a few of them also have dynamite and timers wrapped around their waists. Definitely some potential for tech-thralls as well These are currently on sale for $36 for 10 figs. Not cheap, but the sculpts are pretty nice.

Loving the new stuff. Making it proper Grim n Blanchey will come in the paintjob imho. The schemes presented so far arent at all but that's just GW's paint scheme(s). Nice and clean and lovely. A difference paint approach will have those sculpts screaming grim with a delcious double side order of dark
Well, their models look better than the videos, that's for sure. I still think they let unpaid interns make them (the videos, not the models..).
The cataphract combat servitors look sweet but they botched the castellax-type robots. Or let's say they don't fit too well together. The skitarii release was pretty wacky 50's sci-fi style that goes well with the new robots.
The combat servitors look more grimdark-y and tie in better with FW's range.

You can always paint eyes on them. I know I love that white space, it makes it easier to make the robots Kill la Kill themed by painting Junketsu's eyes on it. (the eye on the terminator's thingy? I have no idea what is called)

I actually really like that song, would be cool to remix it to inject some "tech" into the priest, kinda like Thairne said. I wonder if the music is from DoW like GW usually does or if they commissioned some random choir for this.

"Orkses never lost a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"
I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

The left one almost looks like someone took some generic, dollar store robot toy and glued it to a plastic base. I don't even want to know how much GW is going to charge for it, the fact that someone in that company signed off on this garbage is infuriating enough.
I have it on good authority that when you squeeze these new robots they make squeaky toy noises.

Man... I have just one desperate hope for the Cult Mechanicus book... some kind of transports. I know it is unlikely given the tracked Servitors, and Kastellan's make up half of the book as we currently know it to be, but playing "pure" Ad-Mech with this + Skitarii would be so nice.
Instead, every time I field my Skitari thus far I feel obligated to ally in some other Imperium army just for the transports.
Seriously GW... throw me this one bone. Just give me some kind of transport, and I will be happy being mid-tier for this entire Codex cycle. Even a Rhino would be fine. :-p
I don't mind being squishy, but I at least want a fighting chance to deliver those Electro-Priests, Vanguards, and Rangers for a round of shooting.
