Main reason is because they are not 40k legal yet, unless where you play they will let you sub them.
And as mentioned FW stuff is more expensive and shipping only makes it worse.

They are far far prettier though...

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

Yes they are. More what I would imagine Admech would be.
Still I will be buying a box of Big Hero Mickey Metal Mouse 6.

Not everyone loves resin. Some people hate it. Some people love plastic. Some people might like these more. Some people might not like the For... wait I've written this before.

ME! wrote:1. Because you like these models.
2. Because you don't like the Castellax model.
3. Because you prefer to work in plastic.
4. Because you really don't like working with resin.
5. Because you want that awesome Datasmith.

Oh, perhaps to put it in a slightly different way:

I just don't understand why people can't let others like these Robots over the FW ones.

Speaking for me, I think it looks better, it costs less, it's made of plastic and will be available from discounters.

I personally like the robots.

The main reason I like them is because they don't look like normal Admech or Imperial tech. To me it looks like it was designed during the Dark Age of Humanity and judging by it's smooth lines it might not even be STC tech. It looks ancient by the fact how different it's aesthetics look. The Admech doesn't really do traditional science and invent new tech. They prefer technological archaeology instead to get new stuff. For all we know this thing was Janitorbot 3.0 in M7 that got dug up by the Admech and had armour and weapons added to it. Now it's cleaning up the battlefields of the 41st millennium instead of hallways and for me personally that is awesome

certainly a valid point of view. The admech use a lot of STCs but they also go beyond STC tech into lost arcana.
For me every one of my admech vehicles are going to be different, like orks but with even more steam punkness.

Also everyone has a point of view. I for one hate the chicken walkers. I mean completely hate them. Most people seem to like them. O well, guess i get to convert something up if I want to use that unit. No big deal.

I like the robots. I like the FW models more, but I'm not sure if they're the same size.

I think the new ones are slightly taller. The FW are not as large as many people think they are.

Based on what we know of the rules so far are we expecting folks will want more of the robots? I am hoping to buy a box for the data priest and sell the others. They may be a bit smaller but I prefer the Castellax.

I've been looking at the Ironstrider and trying to figure out why I don't like the design too much, concluding that it's the nature of the servitor making it look too busy.

Please excuse my MS Paint atrocious edit but this is my fix for the model to make it look more streamlined.

Spoiler:

What do you guys think? It seems to be much more streamlined without the servitor and with under-slung auto-cannon.

Once again apologies for the quality of the pic.

I was thinking exactly the same... The servitor in latex is a bit borderline... Your ballistarius is cool but the dragoon lack of something.

So a little teaser of my version of the ballistarius ^^ It's a WIP of course...

On a brighter note, the walking tank has potential.

If that's OK to say in front of the DakkaDakka inquisition?

The robots should have been a variation off of the older model versions. To me that might have made for better looking models and had a better gel with the army look.

Remember the old robot models?

Sorry for having a different opinion, we'll get back to the reeduction camp right away.

Despite my photoshopping several goofy versions of them, I honestly LOVE the robots. My thoughts on them were exactly the same line as MrFlutterPie above... these things are OLD, and barely controllable... the Cult Mechanicus use them because they have my toddler's sense of wonder vs. consequences. And that's AWESOME to me.

I also happen to be a longtime fan of the Fallout universe and series of games, and this brings that aesthetic into 40K in a totally valid manner.

Agreed. There is an obvious difference between having a different opinion and claiming your own opinion is shared by everyone else lol.

Anyways, I will wait and see what conversions happen before I decide on the robots. I still have most of my vanguard to put together, and I would probably buy Onagers first. So you creative people have lots of time to improve the robots (outside of photoshop that is lol).

Whatever, man. Don't get too wrapped around the axle on a conversation I had a couple of days ago when I saw the admech, the walkers and the tank in the flesh.
The figures are pretty neat, btw.
Robby the robot is still gak though. Everyone says so...
