I was wondering what book has the most current rules for the tau tiger shark ax-1-0. The one I'm looking at says that it's rail cannons are str 10, but I thought they were str D now. It also still uses structure points so I figured it was older.

They're your best bet short of a manta, other super heavies generally can't take it down, and used in conjunction with the rest of your army it'll do well. Tau in apoc have GREAT synergy. Most armies do in Apoc when played right.

The Tiger Shark AX-1-0 is very strong. It's one of the better superheavies in my opinion.
yes it's 'only' AV 12, but most Str D weapons can't hit it, making it pretty good as a superheavy hunter.
Edit: Seems I missed the part that said the Tiger Shark isn't allowed in small games.

Doesn't the Tigershark also have the rule that it's so large it's hit on normal BS instead of 6's for being a flyer? Or was that just the Manta.
Most of the Tau FW items are rather lackluster to me. Yeah it's a S D weapon, but it's only a single twin linked shot. Compare it to a Warhound or most other superheavies and it's lacking on firepower compared to it's cost. That and I hear the model is a nightmare to assemble and the base it comes with can't support it's weight.
I really don't trust the guys that thought it was a good idea to make a majority T3 MC with 6+ armor and deals wounds to it's unit.

Its legal in small games like any other LoW
But it costs a LOT, and accomplishes little. a single-slug D shot on a clumsy supersonic flyer, even when TL and strafing, is just not enough to be a threat to other superheavies, not even cheaper ones.
Heck, on average it won't even take out a knight during an average game, and the knight is about half the cost.
Yes, most D can't hit it, but its just a 12/12/10 6HP flyer. for its costs its not very hard to remove.
And a smart player will ignore him, as despite his good shooting, its not good enough to justify the price. remove the rest of the very depleted army, and the railshark will not manage to back it up.
Fluffwise the railshark was made a titan-hunter by being immune to most of them, having the weapon to cause them serious harm (altough overkill to anything else) and being cheap enough to deploy in numbers.
The rules does make the defensive side true, but the budget is just not there, and the destructive power is insulting.
Perhaps on a huge table when they'll have multiple rounds of shooting they could work, but on a regular table they'll have 2 meaningful shots, MAYBE 3 if you are lucky. (and I'm assuming here not a single shot was made on it!)
Even assuming the likely scenario that all hit, its still 2-3 models taking a D hit during the course of a game. anything that isn't an MC/tank is wasted shot, and MC/tanks are not likely to be killed, nor cover the price if they DO get killed.
Assuming the dreamworld result 3 instant-kills by a 6 on the "D wound" table, for most MCs/tanks in the game-it STILL won't make up the price.
Has it been 2 heavy railguns that must shoot the same target rather than a TL one, I'd say its a decent model, as it would have been a "shot-kill", but as it stands, with current D rules, its just not like that. even a simple chimera could realistically survive.

I'm not too sure about the Tau Tigershark.
It's 90 points short of a Warhound, which deals 4 Strength D Large Blast instead of 1 Strength D shot.
And it's also 60 points short of a Vampire Hunter, which deals 2 Strength D Large Blast, and is in my opinion a good super heavy flyer choice for damage dealing.
Realistically, a gunboat in the 700 points range should always have two strength D shots and the equivalent of 6HP AV13/14 to be comparable to D-strength ground forces. Half the firepower, half the durability, and a flyer. Sounds like a fair deal to me.

+1 to this. The 1 shot from the Railshark just isn't worth it. Sure you can give it upgrades for inv saves, + to its jink etc nut 1 S D shot is not worth it.

Beautiful, but far from Titan Class, they're just Riptide class.
I wish the Eldar would get a Knight Class Super Heavy though.
It's hard to go against the Imperium when they can simply flank march an Adamantine Lance up your Titan's butt and you don't have Titan Hunters of your own.

Technically they never said it was going to be a Battlesuit/Titan, they just said a non flyer super heavy is coming for Tau. So it could be a big skimmer/tank type thing, like the Eldar Cobra. Which makes more sense from Tau lore.

That doesn't make sense.
Even the old D strength rules gave a similarly costed warhound 4 Str D blasts where the Tigershark has a single monotarget shot that can miss because it's not a blast.

Its ordinance, but not a blast at all. its a single normal shot at strD AP1, although twin-linked.

In about 60% of games the Tiger Shark will hit and follow up with a 6 (one-shotting a Knight) at least once over the course of six turns. It's also dealing expected 2.5 hull points to a Knight (and 3.5 to any vehicle without a save) every turn. It may not be remove-a-Titan-a-turn powerful, but it's not as impotent as you make it seem.
Consider that you've got the S7/AP3 10" blast submunition round as well, the single D-strength shot isn't its only armament. That's easily remove-a-squad-a-turn material right there.
Consider also that the railgun is one of two D-strength weapons in the game capable of targeting Flyers; reliably dropping enemy aircraft may be important someday.

Who cares about a S7AP3 10" blast in an Apoc game ?
Yup... I'd rather fire the single Strength D shot, because anything that could die from S7AP3 is already dead anyway.
