I have decided to finally get off my butt (Technically stay on my butt while I paint but I digress) and get my Tyranids beyond a uniform primed condition.

Here's my first finished bug. Following StrikingScorpion82's excellent tutorial.

Love the bone/red look! The chitin looks fantastic. Not sure about the blue brain though, but whatever floats your boat.

Looks straight out of a comic book. Excellent work.

Peregrine - If you like the army buy it, and don't worry about what one random person on the internet thinks.

Love the vibrancy of the colors. Did you have a full red base coat on that and then do the gradation on the bone ridge?

The brain's color was actually something I had a hard time settling on. I wanted something which would contrast against all the red. My first thought was green but thought it might look like "Christmas with the Hive Fleet"

Yes. The whole model was built up from a Dragon Red (Army Painter) undercoat.

Thanks for the kind comments. I'm always hesitant to post my minis.

The blue looks nice, but I would make the tubular details on the spines blue as well, or else make the brain match them. Tyranids are generally composed of four core colors (skin, carapace, claws, and detail bits). Having a fifth color, I think, detracts from the contrast and makes the model look busy.

That's a good point and something I should experiment with now before I get to the Gargantuan bugs. Will try it on the next one and alter this one if I like it.

Another Zoanthrope done. Neurothrope up next. Thanks to Darth Bob for the advice on the vent details. Much prefer them blue.

Then it's a question of which Monstrous Creature to do after? Mawloc or do I try my hand at a Hierodule?

Yes, the blue vents look much better. The green just looked really out of place before. My vote is a Hierodule, since you don't see a lot of them. Is it scythed or barbed?

Thanks again for that observation. I am happy I was able to make the switch now after only one model.

It's a Barbed Hierodule. Couldn't turn down that much ranged Str 10

Not a problem! Glad it helped you out.

Definitely paint up that Hierodule. I'd love to see one in this scheme. Also, have you given any thought to doing blog in the P&M blog section? I'd love to see your Tyranids in their WIP states! It's a really nifty scheme and there's not enough Tyranid blogs around, unfortunately.

I have asked for this to be moved over there actually. Will be posting some WIP shots of the Hierodule tonight.

Two Malanthropes will be my next project. Got distracted by some 30k Word Bearers of late.
