Cat trimmings are new though...

Funny I have one of those OJ tops right in front of me now using it as a base for an angel figure.

I also turned a Heroclix Iron man into a heroic statue and used one for the base

That is simultaneously the coolest, yet most stupid thing I've ever seen. I love it.

Did you just find the raccoon and decide to do that then and there or what?

Just looks cool to me. The bones appear to be well cleaned. I'd love to have something like that on my fantasy tabletop.
I do think it could use a bit more foliage winding up and over the spine though. If the dragon's spine has been there long enough for the body to decay, it'd have all kinds of vines snaking up it.

Dragons skeletalize instantly once the dragonborn devours their soul.

Useless facts of the day: 1.) That little widget is actually called a "widget." 2.) Guiness uses nitrogen, not CO2. Helps give that creamy mouthfeel that convinces people that Guiness is a heavy beer, when it's actually about as light as stouts get. [cue 'the more you know' rainbow]

Kind of surprised at all the "why would you do that"/"gross" reactions. Not because they're entirely unreasonable, but because of the thread title. I came in here fully expecting people trying to find appropriate ways of describing exclusively inappropriate bits - adult toys, bodily excretions, etc. Maybe even an appearance by the ghost of Doomthumbs. That anything else appeared is both a shock and a blessing.

Personally, I salvage parts from any and every mechanical/electronic item I find that's kicked the bucket - optical disk drives, microphones, a space heater, pens... Have two parts containers full (literally full - have to be careful closing the lid) of gubbins and a large shoebox for the bigger whatsits. Lab bits (unused, marked for disposal) by the bagful, as well: Small conicals and well plates make for great missile launch pads, when inverted (if I ever make a FoR, I'm set!), as well as paint/ink holders for dip pens and fine freehand brushwork, when used normally. Have a few pipettes and syringes, both with and without hypodermic tips, that serve to help with paint and glue dispensing. Not really bits, I know, but felt like it followed the whole medical/lab equipment trend closely enough.

Also building up a small collection of small animal bones (few bird bits, mostly rodents) for undead fantasy army/terrain use. Not trawling the forest floor with corpse-sack in tow, though - my bones are taken from pre-sterilized owl pellets, which I and others have been dissecting. If the ground ever thaws, I may use some of the numerous ant colonies near the house to strip the carcass of our next whole chicken/turkey we cook. Also have a big pile of interesting Tyranid capillary tower/massive fumarole/giant dragon vertabrae bits waiting in the wings, in the form of deer antler/beef shank bones that my dog ground down/stripped clean beyond the point of his safety/interest (all respectively).

I ordered porcupine quills off eBay to make a Kroot beast:

I had always told myself if I ever did a Khorne army I would prick my finger and add a few drops of blood into my red paint bottle so that all my models would be painted in blood. If I did Slaanesh, it would be a different body fluid.

Way back when I had painted a Nurgle army for WFB and used dried up flies and bees I found on windowsills in my house.

After the models were painted I glued them onto shields, helms and standards, then matt-coated the models.

The held up pretty well. I sold the army on Ebay years ago, I wonder if they are still intact.

I am not sure if I should get too specific.... But it was an apparatus off of a sexual appliance used by a professional dominatrix in San Francisco that I used as the barrel for a Space Orc gun.

Two more suggestion
1) Nylon gears and pulleys. they come inside all kinds of toys and most anything else that has moving parts and are really useful. I think folks skip them because they're usually lubed with oil and nylon isn't the most paintable finish. However, an overnight soak in some purple power (or whatever degreaser you use and a prime with gesso or plastic-speicific spray paint and you're good go go,

They range from the tiny little gears that you find inside pull-back and friction toy cars ( I always take the motors out of the 1/43 die cast that I use in my post-apoc games) all the way up to these big beauties (the two stacks of two in the middle) that I found in a hot wheels launcher toy.

Just about all the rest of these bits were gears and pulley's pulled from toys. Sometimes they look a bit bland by themselves, but stack them in interesting ways and put them on some kind of pallets or blocks and voila! "instant terrain".

2) .22 short shells are small enough (about half the length of the more common .22LR shells) that they look great in 40k scenery as spent artillery casings. They aren't re-loadable, so you can probably get some for next to nothing from your friends with guns or from your local rifle range. Other size shells can be good as pipes, smokestacks, etc.

And I completely forgot about the corpse of "Earl the dead Armadillo" that I found in 1987 that I used as a part of a building.

But the variety of "marital aids" that have found their way onto a gaming table is pretty impressive.

But in LA in the 1980's, that was pretty typical given the number of people from the Deathrock (which is NOT Death Metal), Goth, and Glam subcultures in LA who were also gamers.
