FETHING AWESOME

Sorry, had to get that out of my system. I don't intend to play Deadzone, but these certainly scratch my dwarf in space itch. Look absolutely brilliant.

I've just caught up with this KS (haven't been following it at all) - Is it likely some more Forge Father stuff will appear before the KS end?

Ohhhh, not quite as cheap as I'd prefer on the steel warriors but this is something that could get me into this kickstarter even if it will be 10 months before I see them.....

You're looking at a minimum of $40k PM funds being added just by assuming the $1 backers up to the basic pledge (not all will, but with higher backers also increasing it's a good baseline), so the Stormrage Veteran dual kit goal is going to happen from here. Party time Forge Father fans

I'm not very knowledgeable about mantic verse fluff outside of the deadzone books.

What's the diffrence between stormrage vets and the normal forge father troops? (Aside from being veterans and angry because of a storm)

Yeah, those models are from the beforetimes when there was even less fluff than now. I think they're just veteran steel warriors with heavier weapons.

There's also the Drakkarim with their dragons breath flamer things, and Thorgarim with their heat hammers.

I think what little fluff there is for each unit is on the mantic website under their entry in the shop.

Stormrage vets:

Stormrage Veterans are support troops armed with heavy guns crafted on the Forge Father homeworlds. Each Stormrage Veteran has many years of experience, and puts this and his weaponry to good use blowing big holes in the enemy army. Stormrage Veterans are few in number, but the devastation meted out by a single squad can cause whole armies to flee in terror.

Drakkarim

The Drakkarim are the highly specialised assault troops of the Forge Fathers. They are deployed at high speed by Drakkar transports right in the heart of the enemy lines, causing havoc with their fearsome Dragon Breath flamethrowers and ferociously charging into any survivors.

My kind of unit! If the Drakkar transports end up looking nice and these guys see hard plastic during the WP kickstarter... I shall want many.

Thorgarim

The Thorgarim are a brethren of Forge Fathers that specialise in the use of the heat hammer, devoting their entire life to mastering the use of this most awesome of close combat weapons. No enemy tank can hope to survive a close encounter with the Thorgarim, or indeed any creature that is foolish enough to engage them in melee.

Really, the forge fathers are the warpath/ronnieverse's space marines. The enforcers may have powered armor but they just don't fit the marine aesthetic at all in terms of how they operate... the forge fathers though...

For $1. Till the pledge manager comes out.

Thanks for helping out fellas

Blame Mantic and the two pledge managers they have open right now. Some of us have to save up our money and choose where to spend it. We aren't all capable of throwing a hundred dollars around just because we like Mantic's KS game.

If everyone pledged a buck, Mantic would change their approach and end up releasing the same damn product anyway since that was obviously their plan from the beginning. They just might not rely so heavily on manipulating their customers through kickstarter.

Nope without kickstarter mantic would still be working on the stuff from the first KoW kickstarter and you might be seeing dreadball with a couple of teams.
There would have been no deadzone and plastic scenery yet most likely.

While there is certainly an element of mantic having a produ t ready what would have been released would be very different.

Your last point is especially laughable and comical, because not only the 7th ed Valkyrie shown dumber things (like being able to throw the troopers without parachutes out of its hatches, no harm done) - Irbis

There's always some opinionated person or another trying to guilt others into pledging as much as possible as early as possible in these threads. My stock answer is that if they want to pay for my pledge, I'll gladly accept their money for my KS order, otherwise they can bugger right off on presuming they have any right on how to tell me how I should spend my money.

So anyway, I'll go on on this one for $1. I might add more later, but given that I've got other stuff to do with my cash right now, and DZ is not exactly a priority (spent a fortune last KS, haven't played it at all to date) so the entitled ones can simply reap the rewards of additional stretch goals being broken during the pledge manager, assuming Mantic continues doing that - as they have in the past.

Well, if there's going to be any sort of end rush, it doesn't look like we'll see it today. Predictable, satisfactory, but dull going so far.

I don't really see Mantic doing anything tremendously interesting unless there's a major end explosion. It'll take serious momentum to get past the FF, their expansion, and the handful of throwaway metal one-off figures that would probably follow them (I'm guessing the Rebs would finally get their exclusive figure, followed by a Merc or two.)

I'm not sure why they're so coy about funding another hard plastic sprue; provided we clear the FF before the campaign ends, or even come reasonably close, I'd think PM funds would be enough to cover at least one more. Unless they don't really want to do another one yet for some reason. Is the true cost of funding a new hard plastic sprue closer to $100,000 (masked in this campaign by other inflated stretch goals)? Or maybe they just haven't figured out what direction to take the other faction sprues, and they want more time to mull it over for the Warpath campaign. No cg renders have leaked except for the FF, after all.

Ta both

@grimdork yea enforcers feel more like Halo Spartans to me rather than Marines.

Really like the dwarf plastics and only enough I really like the ratmen too.

Anyone know if mantic have said if;
These HIPS minis will be multi pose not just multi part? That was a big let down for me with the Forge Guard.
If the Rats are comparable with Rat bits from another plastic miniatures range?

The Forge Guard were designed posed and unfortunately never were able to get the plastic sprues to translate. You'll notice on the renders that there is a seperation on the torsos, making the bodies and legs interchangeable this time.

So yes. The rats and FF will have more posing possibilities this time.

To be fair it is a Bank Holiday weekend in the UK, half the country is probably hung over, filled to the brim with chocolate and roast dinner and possibly regretting a lot of spending on their credit cards. I assume that the US and many other parts of the World are not that different.

Earth Dragon: You seem sure that the Forge Fathers will be poseable, that does seem likely with the split waists. However previous Mantic plastics do usually have a paucity of bits. If it is a 5 man sprue there are usually 5 sets of legs and maybe 6/7 torso's if you are lucky. That does not lend itself to too much variety if you buy 40 of them. But again that does not put me off what is, for me, a design winner from Mantic.

Perhaps their manufacter can only make so many moulds in the timeframe Mantic want - they can be time intensive.

That's a reasonable point - especially now that they're utilising some quality control - ie the last FF plastics as opposed to the Basileans.

It looks like they listened to feedback and reposted the deadzone gameplay video, this time without the incredibly poor choice of advertising schemes. It's alot more pleasant to watch this time around in case anyone wants to check out the gameplay.

Good choice on their part, thanks for sharing. May look it up though I've played a bit.. rarely hurts enthusiasm to see a batrep.

So *maybe* we'll see something neat sneak in tomorrow if we nail whatever stretch they assign to the stormrage sprue upgrade and go a little beyond... but we pretty much know what we're getting.

I'm in for about 100 more than I guessed... Gonna do some thinking as to how many steel warriors I really want. Talked myself down to 10 pathfinders as I don't want my scouts to outnumber my staple troopers, plus that army is getting magnets all over the place...

The spesh dorfs are not , though, so I can justify a few more for alternate weapon loadouts... though we don't know what the sprues come with. May consider backing down to 215 and PMing the extras I want after getting (hopefully) some more info so as to make a more informed decision.

Been a fun little project though, pretty weird pacing, but I think they've gotten enough done. If the newest hard plastics are in the wild by the time they run the Warpath KS, that should hopefully engender some confidence.

Those Kovossian Mutants are everything wrong with Mantic's sculpting style. Long torsos, funky legs, pecs taller than their mohawked heads, and arms the length of whatever who cares? It's hard to believe they were sculpted this century. I guess "plague" is Mantican for "80's Chaos homage".

 mitch_rifle wrote:

At this point, they're committed. I'd be very surprised if Mantic didn't declare them 'funded' via the pledge manager if they don't get the money from the campaign. Now, a more pressing question for me ism "will they end up with the heavy weapons that have already been designed and planned for on the sprue if there's no stretch goal?"
