Agreed. I understand that from Mantic's perspective, KS funding is a great vehicle because you have less concern about being caught-out with a bunch of stock that doesn't move. I also get that keeping factories busy keeps your costs down, and so having a lot of stuff going in parallel works out for lower costs all around. However, at this point we will have four significant expansions of product lines already underway, and some people's budget just doesn't stretch that far.

If the next Mantic KS we see is around Christmas time, that would be a good "while" for me. We might have every project in hand by then, but most of the heavy lifting should be done by then.

@Earth Dragon

You can pick up, or could, Dreadball and Deadzone stuff here locally in the Minneapolis area. They also had some of the Warpath/KoW units but I haven't seen those in forever. But even then it was in 1-2 of the shops.

The real problem smaller shops run into is that unless it's actual mantic games being played the sale of mantic models can cannibalize their 40k/Fantasy sales as people use them as counts-as. At least that's been the reasons a few local FLGS owners haven't picked up those lines. Boxed games like Dreadball and Deadzone are easier that way.

I would have thought October/November, gives them 6 months to get everything on their plate bar DZ2 final stage (final QA approval, shipping, etc) done and work on building retail presence.

There's a few places in California that were carrying Mantic. Not sure if that's still the case though. At the very least, I've seen Dreadball in stores. So, at least there's that.

They're never doing Warpath; they just hold out the idea of a Warpath kickstarter to get us to back all of their other ones. It's the football Lucy pulls away from Charlie Brown.

These projects, in particular the KoW2 one, has got to be hurting market penetration, something Mantic has struggled with on a local level in the US.

Of our 5 largest markets, I've only heard of New Yorkers knowing places to go pick up Mantic products locally, which is a little sad.

Yes, the KS factor definitely hurts Mantic a ton here. I have 4 reasonably convenient gaming stores I can get to in less than a half-hour. While one does indeed stock some Mantic, the others not so much; I believe outside of the one store (which does have 2 branches) the most Mantic product I've ever seen was a copy of DreadBall back when it was new.

We're not as big of a market as NY perhaps, but those are some pretty bad numbers still.

Warpath will probably be to fund vehicles and rules, rather than regular figures.

I wouldn't be so sure. DZ:I is set for jan '16 delivery, and I can't imagine they want to start a WP KS months before they'd have these new plastics out on the market, or at least in backers' hands, as examples of what they can deliver. Being able to show an entire hard plastic enforcer army (minus vehicles and characters, although even the latter is a matter of a handful of bits if they set their minds to it) complete with actual, product-in-hand user reviews would be really good marketing.
Early 2016, riding the wave of freshly released DZ HIPS, would seem to be the new goal.

...and if they'd wanted to keep pulling the football they wouldn't have gotten enforcers this close to a fully HIPS range, instead providing a single kit for each army.

Enforcers with their 3 HIPS and FF with their 2 will be the basis likely for their WP release. They'll have some plastic stuff for other armies available but those will be the two leading the charge for them.

I would imagine (again, personal opinion) that they will want to start beta-ing the rules ahead of the KS or as part of launching it, and it feels like Q4 is the earliest they would be ready for the public (the core rules are in a decent place, but some of the advanced parts and most of the army lists need more work).

@Hulksmash: Ronnie has consistently said you need 4 factions for a launch, i think you'll see Plague/Asterians and Veer-myn as part of the launch. Also you undersold each faction by a sprue (Peacekeepers, Enforcers, Pathfinders, Jetbikes; Forge Guard, Steel Warriors....Militia!!!)

The ones from the first KS were restic, the sword/bow armed ones from this KS are supposed to be metal.

Welp, I dropped my EB to $1. I'll probably spend about that in the pledge manager, but on stuff I want.

No but I think renders have been done and they tried to do it before. I think Asterians would make the initial four a much more interesting proposition. However, The Plague have one HIPs sprue, and the army list kinda only lends itself obviously to one more (Stage 3s) so they might beat them to it due to having a "full" list - DZ:I means everything is now available in Restic or metal.

New stretch for another 10k nets a Sphyr leader with parts to swap to a rebs Sphyr with anti armor special weapon. Sounds cool enough, I didn't figure they'd try to shoehorn in any more hard plastic.

Also something about a backer created Spoger with a bladed Gatling gun? Not sure if they were asking us if we wanted it or what.

It sounds like the backer created fig will be an add on, if folks are interested.

I may be interested, but won't commit until I see what it will look like.

Ogres are one of their most consistent lines, so that's a good indicator at least.

Sounds like they're thinking 10 bucks for it, not bad for an ogre sized metal model with a large weapon really.

I do like the DreadBall ones. I still won't buy a figure from Mantic based on just a textual description or even just concept art at this point though.

Talking with another backer in the comments... the Steel Warrior sprue is really approaching a 4-unit kit... Considering you will get a heat hammer per sprue(s) of 5 Steel warriors, and that units for Warpath/40k tend to run somewhere between 5-20 (most usually 10, I think), you should end up with some extra heat hammers. Thorgarim are just melee specialists like the Drakkarim, with heat hammers and pistols... I think?

Alright well the Warpath 2.0 rules have them with just the heat hammer, suggesting it's 2-handed (like the current metal models)... but I don't see any reason why you couldn't use the one handed heat hammer with pistol combo that you'll doubtless have extras of to create a really strong placeholder unit. Really, they'd be smarter to change the profile to include the pistol when Warpath 3.0 comes around... then they can sell their kit, or at least army deals, as having Thorgarim included.

These new Forge Fathers look like the best models Mantic have ever produced. Some of the DKH stuff is also looking very nice as well.

That's interesting. So by reading the update, it's not just A Dragon's Breath, it's 4. So you are actually funding an entire other sprue.

I love the options, but the only complaint I have now is will I be able to buy just the body parts? If I get 20+10 from LD, that's gonna be like 3x the weapons as bodies. I know this is nothing new and lots of companies load stuff into the sprues like that, but that is quite the excess.

OR they might be planning on packaging them like that any way if you buy 20. 4 bodies sprues, 2 ea of the weapons sprues. I wouldn't blame them, and it wouldn't offer any lack of options. It will just be interesting to see how this plays out in the end.

Just glue the extra weapons to the dog drones.

Or your plastic Enforcers, or Enforcer Terminators, or the Coproration Not-IG models, or Orks, or....

Those Forgefathers look good. I don't want them, but they're the sort of thing I'd like to see across the table.

they look decent as resin masters, but I'm not going to trust them until I see actual sprues

(and both sides of them too, I don't want weapons/arms with details only on one side limiting pose-ability)

I'm pretty hopeful, but this is mantic after all

I could see the extra forge father tech in the hands of Marauders and Rebs both. Rich marauders would likely pay well for the best gear available, and the Forge Fathers probably secretly support the Rebs to help keep the Corporations off balance as much as they can.

I'm in for Lockdown, is there anything else kinda important (not the signs etc), modelwise that I should be adding, or is Lockdown covering pretty much everything?

Lock Down gets pretty much everything other than duplicates and bulk. If you want 20 pathfinders/veermyn/steel warriors you can get them for 20 bucks. But probably in the pledge manager too and those numbers *really* aren't needed for DZ.

Normally they don't throw up those pledge levels until we've unlocked all that they need.

I think it got 3 connector sprues more it originally started with and that was it.

Yeah, we'd have been more likely to hit 385k with a goal of some kind, may still do it. Less people will be spam adding to push the total now, but some will still be getting off work, checking the deal one last time, going wow, and adding.

@Warboss, I don't think they have.
