I just can't get behind GW pricing.

Those are probably great for those in the USA, but GW isn't based in the US, and Planos/gun cases aren't available in the same way in the UK or most of Europe.

Amazon disagrees.

I'll concede that you have to trust to faith the dimensions of the listings, and it's not as gratifying as walking out of a shop with something in your hands, but those are some nice prices.

I really enjoy the people comparing the GW list price to a BF sale price, at least with the GW case you won't be waiting up to 6 months for your order to be filled.

I am already seeing the new GW cases pricing from discounters and currently the best price is 30% off.

i think i am going to get one of the new cases, the question is which would be best for my Nids, the Battle or Crusade.

Just noticed on the US GW page that the Crusader case is already out of stock for pre-order, with the add to cart button replaced with email me and out of stock listed in availability.

I saw that weds, and I'm looking at it now, and I just threw one in my cart as a test. So I guess they either rushed some more out, or found some more stock some where....

I had a chance to take a look at the crusade case Wednesday when the shipment came in. They're a lot smaller than I expected from the pics. I also prefer the old style foam or pluck foam. This foam seems like the models will slip and hit each other when you turn the case on its side to carry it around. With the old style GW foam you can just rip dividers out to make larger models fit. If you have any metal stuff you need to make sure you put it in closest to the hinges or it will slide down and crush a whole row of plastic models. I was going to buy one for my drop pods but I'll just get a generic hard plastic case off Amazon and some pluck foam instead (For 1/3 the price).

Does it at least look like you could put alternate/old foam trays in there if you had some, perhaps?

I saw these things in person, ready to purchase if they could fit my vehicles for my dark eldar/harlequins army.

THEY ARE SO SMALL. 2/10 would not ba... err, I mean buy.

Which size did you see in person? The smallest size is definitely tiny but I'd think the medium and large sizes would be large enough.

Didn't see the large case, but the large is just a double wide medium.

I'd be very reticent to try and fit 2 ravagers in one piece of that foam.

I need to stuff 4 ravagers/raiders, 8 venoms/starweavers and 2 razorwings in a case AT MINIMUM and I am confident that is unattainable without damage and paint scraping in a crusade case.

Plastic on the outside felt thinner and cheaper than I am comfortable with as well.

Ah I didn't realise you needed to fit 14 vehicles in a case.

In that case, yeah, they'd probably be too small, except maybe for the crusade.

I do understand you concern about damage, though, as raiders/ravager with their sails and the razorwings are probably too large to fit in the zig-zag inlets and would have to be loose to slide around.

They are significantly smaller than the pictures imply. Originally I said they look to cost about half as much as Battlefoam for equal volume - nope. About the same.

The "innovative" new tray slots are oriented so they are vertical when you pick up the case - so unless the tray is completely jammed with models, they will all slide down to the bottom of the case.

The plastic is just as cheap as the previous GW cases. The clasps will break and you'll have a pretty expensive doorstop.

The tray foam is so cheap that it got permanently crumpled by the shoulder strap, which had been rolled into a ball and jammed in the case.

It's really a complete fail on all accounts.

Shall it be added to the list of "Good idea, bad execution"?

Seems to be the strong point of GeeDubs these days for one reason or another.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

The zig-zag foam is a neat idea. +1 for innovation, at least its something never been tried before.

The price point... is refreshingly sane (for GW). I was thinking these were going to come in 50% higher. I was pretty impressed at the price points and that they come full of foam at that. Thought for sure that'd be an extra cost.

The real thing left for me is what durability and thickness is the plastic itself ? If its a good thick rugged durability, i'll probably pick one up. If it's cheap quality, brittle / easily cracked or punched through then i'm all set.

The foams a damn interesting idea though, for sure.

Correction: It would have been a neat idea if the trays stayed upright during transport.

Anyone measured the foam length/width for the new cases vs the old cases?

The case itself isn't all that bad they are compact but deep it's the foam. Pre ordered one since i needed a case and the price seemed reasonable but if you are like me and have a small fragile army like Dark Eldar you will have major issues with this case. Within a few minutes of testing it snapped the weapon on my Succubus. Anything with sticky out parts has problems with the design because the foam walls crush it. Vehicles on flying bases? Good luck fitting that anywhere in the case. All the slots have the zig zag foam parts as far as i can tell there isn't a tray cut out for fitting that stuff in. If you have Tanks or something you are fine it seems like GW just making something with the idea that everyone only collects Space Marines in mind. It's also no good for things like Dark Eldar vehicles anyway because of the flags and spiky bits etc. I can't figure out where any of it would go without it falling to bits.

The zig zag foam itself isn't glued down so it expands but the problem with that is a lot of models seem to just slide out from under it.

And another edit: After much experimentation i did manage to fit Raiders in it but if you like to glue your flying stands on you are screwed basically. I'm still not totally convinced that the squashing that the box does is good for all the sticky out spears and flags but it works. I had a venom with a stand glued on that i got off ebay and that has now been snapped off just from being squashed down by the foam and lid. .

Went to the local GW yesterday to check them out. I had high hopes after the promotion video. Like many people are saying, they are so much smaller than expected. The medium case especially.

If you got an army that consists of rhinos and space marines these cases are great. Transporting those models has never been an issue though. The medium case takes one flyer, if at all. Helldrake barely fits, Voidraven bomber might be real close, stormraven gunship is probably a nope. I read that it doesn't take drop pods at all.

I'm in the market for a new case but this isn't it by a long stretch. The Feldherr maxi case with 2 large trays and 1 infantry case will carry about 3 times as much stuff for pretty much the same price.

Picked up the medium case today, was shocked that my FLGS had it in stock. I'm overall very pleased with it. I play nids, so I wasn't sure how MC's would fit in this thing. Off the bat, almost nothing with the big oval base is going to fit in this thing. you can get the flyrant to fit quite well if you sacrifice a whole tray of foam. Second, you're probably going to want to experiment to find the best fit for each model, as they won't stay in place if thrown in without some care. The case itself is very sturdy and is a decent size, a little small, but not bad. The cases are great if you play at lower point levels, have lots of infantry and a few square vehicles. It struggles to store the awkwardly shaped MCs, but other than that, I'm a fan.

I saw it at my local game shop. The plastic for the case is pretty flimsy. I pressed it a bit with my thumb and it gave way very easily. Overall, really not impressed

Really? The plastic on my case is solid and doesn't flex a bit. Which size was the one you saw?

I bought a skirmish case. It is physically quite small but is very efficient in model-holding capacity. This is a good thing as we don't really want bulky cases of possible. It is actually quite handy... I'm disappointed the Crusade case hadn't shipped.

These are good for infantry and rhinos, that's really it. I checked them out again today and the plastic is thinner than the old style cases. I also wish the latches could be replaced if they break but of course GW prefers you just buy a new case and throw a perfectly good case with a broken latch in the trash. They really didn't fix any of the common complaints about the old style cases and added the problem of models sliding into each other. You really have to pack them in there to keep them from all sliding down to the bottom. A friend got one and stuffed a tray full of terminators, did the shake test and they were all fine. However, models like eldar infantry wouldn't fare so well.
