If anyone was after the Dust Walkers, Wayland have them in a 50% sale at the moment. At that price, 3 of the smaller ones cost only a few quid more than 1 GW Ironstrider!

I've been kit-bashing Dust Wildfire walkers into Ironstrider Ballesteri, and let me tell you, it is eerie.

The models are identical in size, and war-gear options to the GW kit, and the pilot can easily take an Ad-Mech head and look acceptable.

At this point I have six done, and two official GW kits and they're virtually indistinguishable... its seriously crazy as they can be 70% cheaper.

Also, the AT43 Dotch Yaga is similarly a very good Onagar. I have rebased two of them, and unconverted they already look a ton like the official Onagar with Neutron Laser.

Oh, and again... about 72% discount on GW MSRP. :-p

Seconded!

I wasn't going to get any of those GW ironstriders due to the cost... but if there is a cheap alternate solution which it sounds like there is you're my hero.

There are so many possibilities for that. I'm personally converting my first one from a carin wraith and crap from the bits box.

I am phone/camera inept, but my wife took a few before pictures, so as soon as they appear in my inbox i'll post 'em. :-)

I really do think you'll be surprised. Even straight-out-of-the-box, my very respected local TO said they would be acceptable "counts-as" models, if rebased.

I looked up that AT43 Dotch Yaga and dios mio that thing is perfect. It even has the same feet 0.o. Bought three for less than cost of one Onagar. Thanks for the tip.

I would do the same if I didn't occasionally play at a GW. I only play at a regular LGS like 50% of the time, so I would only be able to use my Dotch Yaga's 50% of the time.

For any of you guys perhaps considering a Dark Mechanicus force, there are lots of options that won't need you to do dramatic conversion work to the current release stuff (as fun as conversion work is woo hoo):

This next model could be for loyalist Ad Mech as well, not necessarily Dark Mech:
https://www.coolminiornot.com/shop/core/core-pathfinder-1.html

And as mentioned, the Anvil Tox Trooper stuff is top shelf (I have Anvil casts, really good stuff and practically no prep is needed), Iron Brotherhood items are great as well.

. . . who cares? Does it need to represent a current model with rules to include something that fits perfectly with the aesthetic of the desired army?

Competitive players. God forbid someone enjoy the hobbying aspect.

Get off your high horse, I care evidently. I own about 10 copies of the model pictured, and would actually look forward to using it, that's why I asked.

1.) Yes it needs to represent something with rules, or I have no reason to field it as anything other than an objective marker.
2.) I'm not certain it ftis the aesthetic as perfectly as you must. To me It looks more like a Chaos Daemon with cybernetics

Can anyone find anything the same size as the Dunewalker?

I was looking at the Dust Tactics machines again and was wondering if the Allies 4 legged machines would be a similar size.

Im hoping to grab those Wildfires myself and add some modifications like a rear elevated seat for a gunner for the Ballistari (the ranged one) or something similar for the jouster one.

Im looking for something, big, bulky, tank-like and brutal.

Like dust tactics machines. Essentially a Tank on Legs.

A good example of something Im seeking.

Its the Reaper Walker from Red Alert 3: Uprising.

Of course finding models like that is hard. especially the correct size.

The base of the Dunecrawler is 130mm which is just over the size of the large blast template. Since it's based it doesn't matter as much what it's actual size is so long as it fits on the base.

So the Skitarii troop box comes with more than enough heads and arms to go around. The main thing we need to expand the box are torsos and legs. Any suggestions as far as those pieces go?

Correct. There are enough heads for twelve Vanguard and also enough completely different heads for an additional twelve Rangers. There are enough "gun arms" for ten galvanic rifles and also enough gun arms for ten rad carbine rifles. Basically there are 20+ heads and 20 guns and arms (plus 3 more gun and arm sets if you count the special weapons).

The torso (upper body plus cloak) and legs are definitely the hard part. They are basically IG sized, though less stocky (more proportionally correct to a human actually). Are there third party bodies out there with the right size with a cloak? Probably. Do they also have metal type body armor with tubes in the front? Doubtful. But if you don't care about the latter part I would hope there is something out there. (I haven't looked, I got slightly burned out kitbashing every single model in my Inquisition force lol).

Just had a thought. Check out ebay? If you are making squads without special weapons (or have an idea to convert your own specials instead of buying the ones from the kit for $$$$), one box plus ten torsos and legs equals 20 Skitarii. Which means you'll probably spend a good chunk less than the price for two boxes...

The current hot ebay prices for the leg and torso bits makes it not even worth it, the legs are going on 20 and torsos 10, you can buy a full box for 31 from a discounter.

I think Wargames Factory Greatcoats (already posted a page or so back) would do nicely as extra bodies for the spare arms/heads. Not quite as techy as the actual models, by they have robes and a little armour, and you could easily cyborg them up with some guitar strings/watch parts/GS and Bits if you were so inclined. At 16 for about £15, 2 boxes of them and 2 of Skitarii would get you at least 40 guys just with the basic guns, with potentially more if your hand out some spare Special Weapons.

Wow. People are insane. Or just really bad at math? I was figuring 15 or so for both the torsos and legs. Oh well.
