I like that there's nothing inherently OP about our army.
We still get our biggest gains from the new BRB, with transports, walkers, lack of initiative and consolidate/pile-in to combat.
Other than that, we just have a basic, stats based army. EXACTLY what it should be, IMHO.

Wowza! Big mobz of boyz seem to be back in a big way. With the change to mob rule and both Nobz and Warbosses being able to crack 'eads and the changes to both Painboyz/Big Meks buffing units (and not models, thank Gork finally) footslogging lists are finally going to be viable. Maybe not necessarily on the exact same level as mech lists, but the fact that we can choose where to allocate losses AND templates are gone means we don't have to just take grotz for troops now. Automatically Appended Next Post: JimOnMars wrote:I like that there's nothing inherently OP about our army.

I feel the same way. Orks were never the army that were the exception to the rule (that was normally Eldar) and I'm glad to see that get translated over into 8th but with the ability to actually apply our quantity over quality methodology.

So from the mission article earlier, objectives are controlled by the player with the most MODELS within 3".
Weirdboyz jumping big mobs onto objectives with no scatter. Will be hard to shift if you can bring a cheapy Boss along for the ride too.

Given how AoE buffs seem to be norm for HQ's. I'm assuming that its a perma WAAAGH! for units within 6" rather than a one off ability. Makes taking multiple Warbosses more conceivable for footslogging lists.

I kind of doubt it will work that way. "It allows an ork infantry unit..." seems to imply that only one unit goes, not ICs (including the weirdboy.)
However, it means a weirdboy can sit behind the lines, teleporting a different unit EVERY TURN onto objectives.
I currently have 2 weirdboyz...I might need 5 or 6.
Also... the weirdboy is the new MANZ missile.

The mob will be an important source of damage, but it will be the characters who allow them be there. A couple of 30 boy mobs surrounding 3 buffing characters might be the way the Green Tide Rolls in 8th.

I dunno about the OP thing.... If painboy and KFF affects units rather than models, the bearers of those effects are untargetable, and prices stay the same... I'd say we may have become one of the more survivable source of cheap troops in the game.
Tough four, Invuln of 5 against shooting (possibly more if the mega force field makes it across), and FNP to units... And ways to mitigate leadership drawbacks
I'm not complaining, but thats an ENOURMOUS jump in survivability for orks.

'ERE WE GO BOYZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some awesome looking changes. they all sound great. The weirdboy catapulting nearby units around the board will be awesome. There is a chance we can charge from it maybe? assuming that they seem to have removed charge restrictions from DS. But we will see
Tele boyz will be great for wrapping up gunlines and the likes. Wrap them up and crump' from both angles!
Also, you can now still MSU, and all you need is 1 large mob nearby to allow you to use the LD. Putting commandos infront (if they in some way increase armour saves to those behind).

Nob bikers w big choppas
Warboss on bike w Pk
Zhardsnark depending on FW rules
Painboy on bike
Weirdboy teleporting manz
30 strong boy squad for troop choice (maybe eavy armor depending on cost) for bubble wraps.
Not feeling trukks for costly elites like manz since the explode will hurt
Not feeling trukks for small units of boys maybe for cheap small elite units like tankbustas or burnas.
Wonder if any of the special character buffs works while inside a transport? If Mek with kff works inside transport (even something like current ed exception) feel free to add one to a truck w tankbustas to keep the transport alive maybe add a killsaw to wreck vehicles w multi wounds. Charge trukk into vehicle or walker hope it survives to lock the model in combat and than charge in tankbustas/Mek w killsaw to blow the walker/vehicle up.
Bikes still look like the way to get special characters to where they need to be in a hurry while increasing the models footprint for AoE buffs. Unless you can put them into a transport like a morkanaut and thier AoE buff still works from inside (which I believe they said doesn't work)
Beware of snipers!!!!

Not holding my breath for buff bubbles working in a transport. I feel like they don't want that from both a gameplay and aesthetic standpoint. GW wants heroes stomping around the battlefield, not hiding in mehtal bawkses.

Than expect lots of characters on bikes. Larger footprint and much more mobile. Weirdboy can work but only being able to cast da jump once a turn is limiting to special characters which are thier own unit. Da jump is better for 30 man boy squads or manz.

Wow, things are looking mighty slick.
Given the transport changes, I'm betting that if you wanna choppa = get on the ground, if you wanna shoot = get in the trukk.
What excites me most about this is that it seems to indicate that a balanced army setup seems like a clear winner here. A single (or a couple) large mobs of boyz with small squads of specialists nearby taking advantage of buffed transports with split unit capacity as well as the morale buff from the nearby big mobs of boyz.
Units in trukks are likely going to be able to move 12+ inches and shoot to full effect, huge boost to the power of burna boyz, shoota boyz, flash gits etc. But the rolling tide will love the new way that the buff units work. Even units that infiltrate/deep strike will be much more usable now. With the new way "ere we go" works rerolling both dice, a unit of Stormboyz is going to be in combat on the drop over 50% of the time.

Teleporting lootas....
Would they be at -1 BS to shoot? If not, great way for them to get around LOS or cover.
We could have several weirdboy "stations" that teleport units back and forth between them as needed.

Well we didn't get Rokks (and probably never will) but in some ways this is better since now we have a shot at denying enemy powers too. This is probably the closest we'll get to having snipers too. An IC gets positioned poorly, shunt a small squad of Tankbustas, Loots, Flash Gitz, or a decent squad of shoot boyz, space permitting, and take them out.

Depends on the stats for rokkits. tankbustas are (were) much cheaper than gitz...and we assume that this unit will be wiped out afterwards.

Teleporting backfield units to escape is actually a great idea. Hell, I'm actually considering getting a second weirdboy (after some playtesting) to see just how effective Da Jump is, now.
I just can't wait until someone tries to use a Ld-based psyker power against a mob of boyz.
"Okay so I roll 2d6 and wound you based on your Ld. What's that mob's Ld?"
"Thirty."
