It's sadly alot more.at 55 GBP (so around 50% higher in USD). I commented when it came out that, just like with the starter, I wish they had included less and dropped the price point along with it. The massives so far are unfortunately ( IMO) bundled with a sprue of medium and small starter set ships (and their bases, rules, tokens, and inserts) even though the rules for the actual massives do NOT reference them at all. It's not like with other ships where you can add a smaller ship to a larger base like a fish following a shark to upgrade the bigger model to a "supported" or "reinforced" variant. There really is no reason at all in game to bundle it except to raise the price and move some more plastic sprues. :(
That's weird. The picture on MM has the UNSC Supercarrier supported by two Paris'.
Of course, I agree with you guys 100%. It would've made more sense for folks to at least get the core group expansion rules instead of the starter rules again.

Yeah, it's misleading. Maybe they'll change it in the future. The Punic does have rules for buffing nearby frigate bases every turn and the model can mount 4 frigates on rails underneath to model WYSIWIG that reinforcement ability. I was lobbying hard to convince a guy (successfully) to do it on their forums as I think visually it's cool from a modelling perspective but it in no way justifies bundling a sprue with two marathons and a dozen frigates in with the set when 4 simple small one piece resin bits would have sufficed and not raised the price. YMMV.
The covie CAS though has no "modelling" reason to include their ships though at all with the massive nor anything in the rules either but comes with a medium ship and 6 frigate sprue.
If I'm going to expand my fleet, I want new ship sculpts and rules and not even more of what I already have. YMMV but if they were going to bundle anything with the massive then it should have been the new ship sculpts they previewed at Gencon and on Halo waypoint months ago and not more of the starter set ships that we have 4 different boxes for each faction already to get them from before the massives. The game needs more variety (whether in factions, ships, or both) and not more of the same bundled in with the new stuff.

X-wing was also on sale for 50% off during Black Friday and is a very popular and well selling game. Now if we see it going on sale for 50% off during a regular time with no subsequent restock, that would be a different story.
That might be normal for the US-retailers, but in Europe ist raises quite some eyebrows when a company does it in its own webshop. Which actually happened.
The lines are a little bit more upsetting. I own quite some DW-stuff and after comparing the Halo resin-stuff with the DW-stuff it turned out that they were using for Haloresin a printer with lower resolution than for DW. Which is rather strange. In the past their stuff has been printed outside. Either they now print in-house and have a rather basic printer or they can´t afford the better external printers and had to switch to lower quality. Or their quality control is virtually non-existent...

Bought the gen con box off Ritides for what is honestly a steal (I was okay with it till he threw in some extras.)
(Doubly sorry, ratted on you Ritides as you were do generous I feel I should share.)
I am disappointed I don't get any Halcyons, (I know they were super rare but, still,) just Marathons. I'd like some more var
riety honestly.. Love the Paris class in miniature form though!
Could I convert and make some of these into terrain?
I was thinking of making a Marathon class cruiser for the timeline of late H3 early H4. Essentially an extended Marathon class ship with two of them combined.
Would you play against a converted ship if its statline was the same as normal?
Ahem sorry, holiday cheer and over excitement! Back to my real question, where do I go from here now? Make a list and paint them up?
Halp. (Picture to show what I have.)

Im confused, what items for Halo are made in resin? Everything Ive seen released thus far comes in plastic except the busts (which as I understand it do nothing for gameplay anyway.

Whether or not it was based on real info from spartan that changed since or just wishlisting, the going theory was that all but the largest ships would be plastic. There is a guy on the spartan forums who claims to work on halo waypoint and no one seems to be doubting him that said there is no cut and dry strategy like that but rather things are evaluated individually. Take it all with a grain of salt.

I'd definitely play against it but I'd probably recommend using one of the "buffed" marathon statlines to show the larger size in the rules. Depending on how much you add to it size wise, a supported marathon to reinforced marathon to dual marathons stat lines might be appropriate. In any case, the rules are on the stat cards and base insert so I don't see reasonable opponents making a fuss as ling as you point out the conversion ahead of time to avoid confusion and don't change the rules. There is a guy on the official forums who is converting one marathon to the specialty carrier variant even.

Ok so just found this thread and I would like to ask but has there been any progress or development on the ground based game (got to page 4 before my brain decided that it need to stop reading to take an eye break)? Not really too sold on the fleet battles as everything looks too.. samey but I think I will give it a chance when more ships are available for expansions (plus I want a PoA and Infinity mini).. However a ground based game I'm sold on (a 28-32mm Skirmish game and I'm throwing my wallet into the monitor screen, hey a guy can dream right?) but I want to know if they plan on selling the Promethean's as a faction? I LOVE the Promethean's as I love the contrast with them and found them to be very interesting and more interesting to fight than flood, and I feel everyone else would want to be UNSC and Covies..

Oh alright, I am just extending the ship by using the front to mid of another Marathon, and then reinforcing the front and sides with extra plating. Nothing too major but, basically it's a ship that has been moved under ONI command, near the end of the war to protect research assets. It has the front of another Marathon cruiser grafted on (it was snuck in during the creation to raise morale, and as such still bears the scars and warpaint of the original cruiser that was lost.)
I think I will go with running it as a Reinforced or as dual as it is a one of a kind. The argument for reinforced being obvious but, it could easily be dual as it is near the events of H4 when humanity has more resources. In my mind it exists to guard bases such as the Argent Moon.
I also saw that conversion, mine will be pretty obvious by comparision.

Sounds cool; don't forget to post pics here on dakka of the conversion as well. From the sound of it, the reinforced might be the best choice especially if you want to leave open the option of making more. The dual marathon is IIRC a specialist battlegroup of its own so you'd only ever to be able to use one in your fleet without houseruling it with your opponent.
If you need the stat cards for reinforced or dual marathons, they're only currently available direct from Spartan. I don't know if that'll change in the future but you can get a 1080p preview of the card stats on the Fleet Signal youtube channel review of the products.

They also come in the core upgrade boxes (and they're double sided so you get both covie and UNSC with on "core" purchase). Sorry, I wasn't clear. It's honestly a bit confusing where you have to find Waldo with the various releases. I didn't want any more models and I wanted the additional characters so I got that upgrade from spartan instead. It's only in the "core" upgrade box with marathons and paris frigates. If you got the upgrade box with Epochs then you don't have it. If you got one of each "upgrade" box, you're covered.

Awesome. Too bad 28mm skirmish was too good to be true. I always felt the strong focus of Halo was firefights of 2-6 squads, with big set pieces like installations, ships, and Scarabs relegated to battlefields/sections of the battlefield rather than being used as units. 15mm mass battle will be cool too though. Will see how it develops before I throw money at it though.

28mm makes sense for an infantry-centric game, but a smaller scale makes a lot of sense for the vehicle-centric game. The risk, however, is that they might be over-saturating their market a little. The two games target the same group of fans and therefore the two scales might be competing with each other for the same money. Delaying the 28mm to later would help solve that issue.

I'm really looking forward to Halo Ground Command, and seeing the progress of the game at Salute!
Also, earlier today Spartan posted this on Facebook:
Spartan Games wrote:
Hi all, as many of you have had lots of questions about the new Halo: Ground Command game, and particularly about the scale, we thought we'd take the opportunity to provide an official answer, to clear up any confusion.
Halo: Ground Command is a 1:100th scale massed battle game. The choice of scale was an easy one as we looked to create a game that acted as a counterpoint to the first person video game people are very familiar with. In the video game the key focus is on UNSC Spartan super soldiers, whereas in Halo: Ground Command and the expanded universe beyond the video games the focus is on the Army as a whole. Spartans do play an important role in the game, but so do Warthogs, Scorpion Tanks, Pelicans, ODST Drop Pods, Falcons, Banshees, Phantoms, Wraiths, Ghosts, Hunters and Scarabs! To give you an idea of size: at 1:100th scale a UNSC Pelican Dropship comes in at just over 12 inches and is playable and affordable, but at 28mm scale this model would be around 24 inches and much too costly for the average gamer! It is also the case that a Covenant Phantom or Scarab would be so large at 28mm as to make it almost un-gamable. That's no problem if you want to simply stand it on a (reinforced) shelf... but we want to make models you can show off AND game with too!
Halo: Ground Command is an inclusive game that brings together video gamers and wargamers alike. 1:100th scale is the best way to do that, giving you the best of both worlds: excellent detail levels and affordable collectability.

I'm assuming the 12 inch Pelican is a typo, because there's no way it's that big compared to a 15mm human. I could see 12cm maybe!

Halopedia says it's 30.5 meters long, so at 1:100 that maps almost exactly to 30 cm...
