Because the cargo section is just a small part of the drop ship.

Halo vehicles are massive.

Well, they seem to have as much tail as all the rest combined...

Most of the rear will be a load bearing structure - you have to remember that the Pelican can hoist and fly long-distance with an 80 ton Scorpion slung underneath.

To specify, It is capable of reaching space with its own power with a 80 ton Scorpion slung underneath.

As a note, the Halo Micro Ops stuff is definitely way to large. I picked up some warthogs hoping they be similarish, if a little big, and they are much more 1/72 or even true 25mm fig sized.

My 15mm Clear Horizon Drop Troopers (ODSTs) stand about as high as a wheel. Oh well...

There's the picture's in the first post, and Beasts of War did a nice interview piece which showed off the models as well. There hasn't been anything newer than that as far as I know. Should be pictures aplenty after Salute next weekend.

Preordered from the Troll Trader for £50, got a 54mm Elite model. we somehow managed to completely miss the ground command table itself, but got some nice pics of the Pelican dropship (apparently big enough to actually carry a squad inside.

Don't normally preorder stuff this far in advance, but I'm pretty excited, even if it's just getting the gf into wargaming.

Will it be plastic?

I doubt it will be plastic. I'm expecting metal infantry and mixed resin/metal vehicles.

Now if it is in plastic I'd be quite happy, but I'm not sure that worked out well for them on the halo fleet game. They certainly moved later production to resin after the initial box set.

Forget about Pelicans. Scarabs have been confirmed, which should be around 20 inches/ 50 cm long and tall (it will vary depending on the type of Scarab), bigger than any of the Warhammer 40k Titans.

Absolutely meh on the Scarabs. Just like what I don't like about Fleet Battles, I want a variety of the troops that serve as the meat and potatoes of the game, before they start releasing $100+ figures that only the die hards will "need".

I worry about this game (for me at least) because I really don't like the current trend of Spartan selling everything in bulk, though, like Planetfall. I don't want to have to buy $50+ packs of 4 Scorpion tanks and troops as an " Armored Group" (just an example from speculation based on Planetfall), when I might just want 1 or 2 Scorpions.

This does look very cool, who doesn't want warthogs and Pelicans on the table to play with. Still remember how blown away I was when halo first came out and seeing foe hammer drop off a warthog that you could use that wasn't an on rail section,,,, good old day lol.

Hmmm gives me an idea for terrain for this game. Just need to start buying lots of pine trees.

What size mat does one play this on, 4x6?

I should imagine so although with the contents of the starter set maybe a bit smaller. I wonder what the weapon ranges will be like on the Covenant side.

I'm guessing the unsc side will slightly out range them. Let's hope you can't max things out with snipers and rockets and just destroy the covies from a distance.
Going from the novels the unsc always seemed to far a bit better in ground battles hence the covies glassing planets so wonder how the will balance the game play.

The novels never really said such thing. What the novels said was that humans sometimes won in the ground, but the Covenant victories in space made those irrelevant.

Theres plenty of reference to the unsc fairing better on ground hence the tactic of glassing planets in retreating to space or glassing a planet straight away instead of a costly ground battle. I'm aware the covenant had the upper hand in space combat.

The UNSC fared better on the ground compared to how they fared on space, but as they were getting stomped in space, it doesn't really proves much.

From what the books tell us, we can't make the assumption that the UNSC usually won on the ground.

WOW, looks great indeed.
And the table reminds me of a HALO3 map.

I did not pre-order, but will definately buy it.

I've got a 28mm scarab, that one IS huge indeed and bigger then most 40k titans. It was a limited model from HALO clicks. Never bought HALO clicks, but bought the Scarab for 40k. It's bigger then some dogs ;-)
(about 65cm long, 40cm high).
A 15mm version should be about baneblade size, just twice or thrice as high.

That's the thing I didn't say the unsc won just that they seemed to do better on the ground. Either way it looks a good game so far and I hope we all have fun when it's out.

The Pelican already is bigger than a Baneblade with 12 inches/30 cm long. The Scarab will be like 20 inches/50 cm long.

IMO 20" might be too big, but we will see...

I just hope there will be enough players.

There's a video online of the Spartan guys doing a demo at the weekend at salute. I'm sure they said the thing is massive almost 20 inch square so not far off what Tyran said. At that size il doubt il be picking one up.
Now the pelican is a different matter and will be getting one for sure, let's hope you can attach a scorpion or a warthog underneath for the cool factor alone.
