Yeah it definitely has the look. I'd say pick a pose you like and make it definitive and smooth by greenstuffing the joints. Sharpening the claws and pikes might be interesting too. You might then want to have him look more machine too. Could do that by adding armor plating, or excavating the plastic at some locations to sculpt apparent machinery.

Definitely an interesting project !

Not sure about the wings though, they seem a bit small for a guy his size. But you sere talking demon prince earlier, so they might come in handy nonetheless ^^.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

I went back to FLGS today, determined to make offerings to the Dark Gods so I can receive their glorious blessing (read: spend money to get cool stuff), and I returned home with....

A MAULERFIEND!

AND CHAOS KNIGHTS!

BECAUSE REASONS!

So, after gushing over the sheer awesome of both of the kits, I did a quick comparison between the Maulerfiend's body and my Mega Bloks dragon; turns out it's about the same size! In fact, the Mega Bloks dragon is actually slightly bigger, especially the head.

Now my cunning plan is to use the parts from the Maulerfiend kit to build a Maulerfiend and a Forgefiend, which means our good old Mega Bloks dragon is going to take a trip to the Hellforge... I'm probably going to turn it into the Maulerfiend, as mounting the second pair of legs on it would just look silly. And giving him gun-arms, albeit a cool prospect, would probably be rather inefficient

As for the Chaos Knights, their kit is just as awesome as I'd imagined it to be. These guys have some awesome melee weapons, ranging from axes to maces to giant spears, with some cool helmets designs to boot. They also have some cool shields and shoulder pads, which open the way to more conversions. I'm going to sprinkle these bits on my Chosen/Berserkers to add some variety, and to reinforce the more martial aspect of these warriors; as you can see here:

Banner guy got himself a nice sword, and I'm going to try to mount his banner on his backpack as shown (currently held together by blu-tac)

This one got himself one of the Knight's shoulder pads, they're a bit bigger than the normal pauldrons but they fit nice enough.

Here we see some more Knight bits being put to good use; the helmet, scythe and shield are all from the same kit.

So this means The Remnants are going to be reinforced by 2 Fiends (one of the Mauler and one of the Forge variety) and by a group of Chaos 'bikers', which means the amount of models I still have to paint is going up again I'm making progress, I swear!

They're a bit too Chaosy for that I'm afraid, these guys really have Chaos markings on everything, not to mention the weapons looking satisfyingly barbaric... and more in the 'evil viking' kind of way

Time for an update!

So I've managed to paint some more dudes for The Remnants, one regular Marine and another Alpha Legion operative, which I'll go into detail about in a bit; first I'd like to talk about the bits that arrived in the mail recently.

I ordered a couple of bits from this lovely site called Wargamingeexclusive, which sports a couple of really cool conversion kits and bits, amongst which a Heresy-era-ish Terminator armour kit and Mark III Power Armour helmets (with crests!). As I love the Mk. III armour pattern and needed a way to make my Command squad of Terminators stand out a bit more, picking these up was pretty much a no-brainer.

After receiving the bits in the mail, I started slapping them and the Chaos Terminator kit I had lying around together, which led to these fine gentlemen (note, they're still very WiP):

Enter "The Council" (working title)! The absolute leaders of The Remnants, these men are a force to be reckoned with.

First up is an individual I call "Lord Breacher", of the Iron Warriors. Once staged a coup against the demon-possessed Warsmith of his Grand Company, but ultimately failed to remove him from power. He escaped his brethren's wrath by joining forces with The Remnants, who also picked up several of the Iron Warriors loyal to his cause (including Zhoran). Although the Warsmith in question was eventually killed and the Grand Company largely fractured by infighting, Lord Breacher still holds a grudge against his former Grand Company and all of its splinter groups.

This one just put himself together, really. I had to lift a Thunder Hammer from one of my Loyalist Terminator kits to give him an appropriate weapon, but it did result in a rather nice, threatening pose (IT'S HAMMER TIME). I'm still debating whether or not I should swap his head out for another one (he's currently using the half-flesh half-iron head from the Tac Squad box, which has been used to death in other Iron Warrior projects already), but I have yet to find a good alternative. Also, I apologize for the crappiness of the pic, my camera refuses to cooperate with me.

Next up is the "Lord Executioner", the finest swordsman of the entire warband (although it's kind of cheating when your sword IS your arm). I realize now that I could've taken a better pic of this guy, as now you can't actually see his mutated arm (for those who want to know, it's the arm that turn into a large sword from the Possessed kit). I'm not entirely happy with his pose yet, it seems a bit too generic at the moment.

Here's a yet-to-be-named Lord, who carries around a large daemonic spear. I was mostly experimenting with the possibility of using the Chaos Knights' spears for the Terminators, so I'm probably going to change this guy some more in the future.

And lastly, "The Commander" himself! When I first say this torso, I knew I had to use it for the leader of the group, it's just so huge! I'm not too happy about the front of it though, it's really bare-bones and the leader of my Warband deserves better than that, don't you think?

I tweaked one of the Mk. III helmets a bit to fit into the head slot, it fits snuggly at the moment but it doesn't look entirely right just yet. The weapons are just a test as well, although I would love to make this guy a bit of a polar opposite to Abaddon (as he's supposed to be an ex-Black Legion commander who Abaddon wanted dead after he started questioning Abbies' leadership skills), with a Talon of Horus-like weapon on the left and a (possibly daemonic) sword on the right.

If anyone has any advice for spicing these guys up, I'm all ears

I also used the Mk. III helmets for some other things too, namely for a Captain for my Death Ravens and for a Horus Heresy-era Company Champion who may become my Heresy-era personal character (yes, shameless self-insert, I know )

Here's the Death Ravens Captain, who raided both the Sternguard and Captain kit for bits to bling himself out. The end result looks pretty damn badass, even if I say so myself; although he weirdly reminds me more of an Ultramarine than anything else (Acting-Captain Aurelius, is that you?)

And here's my Horus Heresy character, a Company Champion who fell to Khorne during the brutalities of Istvaan III. I'm not sure which Legion he'll belong to, although the World Eaters would be a obvious choice. Maybe I'll write a few short stories about him, I've been looking for an excuse to write about the Heresy anyway

Now that that's done, here are some pics of the finished (but not yet based) Black Legionnaire and Operative "Chef":

This guy was fun to paint, although drawing the Eshin grey highlights maddened me towards to end (keeping them the same width isn't that easy, trust me). I hope I've done a good job of representing the dreaded Black Legion, because otherwise, Abaddon will likely have my head

And lastly, here's Operative "Chef", in all his vox-using glory:

I had trouble starting with this guy, I couldn't figure out which parts to do turquoise and which ones black; I eventually settled on a turquoise shirt with a black combat vest on top of it, which is mostly covered by Chef's cooking apron. Once I had that settled, the rest of the paintjob flowed together rather easily.

Phew, quite the long update this one turned out to be

As always, comments, suggestions and critiques are more than welcome, and thanks for stopping by

I like the power armoured guys, however, I think the terminators chestpieces are a tad bit bulky for my taste.

But, as a DE player, I like my models to be sleek (ironic I also play guard right)

Woaw, that is what I call a more than decent update.
Very nice squat that council, real gathering of badasses.
Regarding the blank space on the chest plate I am sure there is a lots of stuff you could pull out. Word bearers would scribble stuff and add impurity seals right there, not sure it would fit with Black Legion though. I am not familiar with the knight kit, maybe you could salvage ornate armor plates of spikes from it ? You could also try to freehand the commander's personal heraldry I guess.

Keep it up !

The new torsos are indeed pretty bulky, they're certainly larger than the regular ones; I can only imagine how they would look next to a Dark Eldar (the expression 'walking tank' comes to mind)

Thanks for the tips! I've taken the liberty to make some 'adjustments' to the good Commander...

BEHOLD!

Ladies, contain yourselves.

I cut up a small Tzeentch icon and stuck the central part on the Commander's chest, and added two tiny arrows to the sides of it. I also stuck a top-knot on his head (impractical but god it makes him look cool), swapped his right arm for a Chaos Knight sword arm, and mounted a small weapon on his left claw (to reinforce the 'polar opposite of the Talon of Horus' idea).

The biggest change is his base however, I raided my bits box for a couple of suitable pieces; I really wanted him to stand a bit taller than the rest of the Terminators, and make his pose a bit less static. There's also a large pole with an icon up top standing amongst the debris, maybe I can use it as a way to show the Mark he has on him?

Aside from making the Commander EPIC AS FETH, I also made another member of his retinue, namely Lord Ravager, leader of the Khornates in the warband:

Wielding a chainaxe in one hand and a regular axe in the other makes him look suitably Khornate, I think. I'm happy with the pose as it is now, but I think I'll add some skulls to his armour and base later.

And here's a pic of the Terminators together:

Let me know what you think!

The only thing I don't like is the little shield, it just doesn't look right to me when put into someone who comes from Horus' legacy, at least in my mind they are rabid dogs and jackals (and maybe a wolf or two, but you get the idea, vicious and cruel), ornamentation yes, but decorative shields are IMO more of a loyalist thing.

Still, that Lord Breacher is amazing, but I have a thing for Iron Warriors.

Glad you guys like the Big Boss, I'm really happy with how he's coming along Will give the topknot and the little shield some more thought though...

I found some more time to work on some models for The Remnants, I got operative "Madz" from the Alpha Legion operatives finished and finally got around to painting an old school Khorne Berzerker who'd been giving me trouble earlier.

Here's "Madz", the guy who runs into a gunfight with a spiked club and manages to not get himself killed. Which means he's either the best operative the warband has or at least the luckiest one. Most agree on the second option.

I really like this model, and the little arm swaps I've done just make him a bit more awesome in my opinion. I went with the usual black-turquoise scheme, with crimson details.

Here's the group so far. Still have to base Chef and Madz (along with everyone else I haven't based yet).

And here's the Khornate, one of the old school variety of Berzerker. I LOVE this model, it's just so goofy-looking! I painted him in the colours of the 'Harvest' warband, which at least tries to be original by replacing brass with bone details.

It's the first time I've tried to paint a brighter red, as I felt that the Khornates deserve better than just a measly layer of Scab Red I used Mephiston Red here, which made for a rather pretty bright red; I still started from a Scab Red base though

The bone details were pretty fun too, I applied some Seraphim Sepia on Screaming skull, after which I re-applied the Screaming skull to make the bone colour pop again. I messed up some of the details here and there, but I think I did alright overall

That's all I have for now, I hope I can offer you some more stuff to look at next time
