Pauldrons will be added shortly, I'd just forgotten to slap them on him

No real progress on any fronts yet, but I have been busy making a few concepts for characters in Photoshop, the results of which can be found below:

The first image I've photoshopped is an Aspiring Champion, which I gave a new head, a regular backpack and one of the Chaos Knights' shields. This would be the more evil model of Kusun, although the colour scheme would then be the Black Legion one

I've been thinking of adding a Dark Apostle to the Remnants, but I don't want to just use the GW one. Converting a Loyalist Chaplain could be interesting, especially if one adds a few bits from the GW Dark Apostle ...

Another idea that's recently formed in my mind: Chaos Assassins. The idea of an Eversor in the service of Khorne sounds pretty damn awesome, and model-wise it seems do-able enough (as the above image shows)

Following the same idea, a Chaos Callidus assassin. I think the paintjob would be crucial in selling the 'this was once a loyal Imperial assasin'-angle here.

And lastly, seeing as Daemons seem to be a big part of CSM armies now, I was thinking of ways the Remnants would be willing to use them. One of the ideas was that the daemons are bound to the material realm through possession of cybernatic arms and legs, making them some sort of cyborg-daemons...

So, what do you guys think?

The images are indeed lacking in quality somewhat, if that's what you're referring to TS I just wanted to get a feel of what the concepts would look like, so I didn't put all too much effort into it

Also, the Remnants aren't buddies with daemons, which is why they would forcefully bind them to cybernetic limbs before they'd ever use them I'm still debating whether or not I'd personally ever use them (fluff-wise, the Remnants could be forced to do so by circumstances), but I think an Iron Warriors player would certainly be interested in a concept like this, as it fits the IW's fluff

Update time!

Haven't done any painting yet, as I still have to wait for the weather to become somewhat reasonable again so I can prime a couple of models I've put together, but I have been working on two interesting new additions to the army...

Introducing the dreaded Dark Apostle, Mithras the Pure (working title):

Mithras the Pure. A name reviled across a hundred systems. Ruthlessly ambitious and diabolically devoted to the True Pantheon, Mithras sees himself as a beacon of light in the darkness of ignorance, spreading Lorgar's holy Truth throughout the galaxy and burning down the icons of whatever false gods he finds.

Aiding him in his iconoclastic ventures is an Akhenat-pattern slave-construct, a gruesome machine gifted to him by the Dark Mechanicus.

I really like his pose, although it looks a bit too much like Kusun's, but that's mostly to blame on his weapon, which (like Kusun's axe) comes from the Chaos Knights kit.

To spice things up a little, I tried to give him a different kind of shoulder pad; I'm not sure where this bit's from (my guess is a Lizardmen kit), but it looks a bit daemonic, which I find fitting for a Bearer of the Word... I'm not sure if it works yet though, there's something off about it but I'm not sure what

And I added half of a BA death mask to his backpack to increase his creep-factor. Does Mithras have eyes on his back? Or is that just what he wants you to think?

And here's the Akhenat-pattern Slave-Construct:

This one's inspired by a lot of the Inq28 conversions you can find floating around on the internet. I've always been fascinated by other people's combination of Terminator chest pieces and really thin bodies, so I was pretty pleased when these pieces came together as they did while I was toying with them.

It's supposed to be something of a DarkMech servo-skull, with a gruesome tentacle rather than cables trailing behind it. I really tried to go a bit Blanche here, I hope I succeeded somewhat

And here's a picture of master and slave together:

So, what do you guys think?

Very cool both of them, master and slave. I especially like the addition of the face to the backpack, and the "Careful not to misread my dark bible, or you'll get bludgeoned !" pose.

Definitely a cool idea with the custom shoulder. Maybe using an intermediate bit in order to hide the part of the arm that is usually covered will help it integrate with the rest of the armor ?

Keep it up !

Update!

I've actually managed to get some painting done! Say hello to a mysterious scion of the Alpha Legion:

Group shot of a couple of Remnants

I had a lot of fun painting this guy, although I first dreaded the idea of painting a guy in only one, albeit very pretty, colour, until I found an amazing 30k Alpha Legion army that used orange/rust colours to contrast the regular colour scheme. In true Alpha Legion fashion, I promptly stole said idea and ran with it

Also, I tried to show the Legion's uncertain loyalty in his basing... let's hope the Black Legion doesn't find out

In other news, I've received a couple of bits recently, among them the Aspiring Champion from Dark Vengeance, which I've combined with some Warp Talon claws to create the following:

First of all: holy gak this is one badass looking model. The choice of weaponry puzzled me a bit though; a giant, epic daemon-possessed axe, worthy of a CSM special character... and a combat knife? That's just silly. Also, after reading the little blurb about his character, I think a blood-crazed psycho like Vrosh Tattersoul would probably be using power claws to rip his opponents to pieces in the name of the BLOOD GOD instead of just cutting them up with an axe and a knife.

He's got a bit of a Night Lords vibe going for him now, although the idea of painting him in the Crimson Slaughter regalia is tempting...

I also put together the other Hellbrute I had lying around all this time:

Just some minor conversion work on this one, mostly the addition of the faceplate and the plasma cannon derived from the Forgefiend's alternative head.

And here they are together... they make a nice dynamic duo, don't they?

That's all I have for now, hope you enjoy!

Might I ask how you painted your Alpha Legionnaire? The Tael is very nice and mesh pretty well with the rust.

Thank you! Painting these guys is a lot of fun, and it's rather liberating to be able to paint whatever colour scheme you like instead of painting every guy the same way

As for the Alpha Legionnaire, I did the following:

- Paint most of the armour panels Hawk Turquoise (which is 'Sotek Green' in the current range)
- Paint everything you want to be metal in Ironbreaker or the metallic colour you desire
- Paint some armour panels Abaddon Black for variety
- Wash the Hawk Turquoise armour panels with Biel-Tan Green. It's best to do this in the final stages of painting, so you don't accidentally hit the washed parts with another paint
- Lights on the weapon and the Marine's eyes were painted with Troll Slayer Orange
- Finally, use Ryza Rust to add some weathering/contrast to the model.

And that's that! Hope this helps

Hey everyone, I've been steadily working on Ancient Sisyphus, the Death Guard Hellbrute who had some screentime in the (in-)famous Crusade of Fury (which you should read because it is made of 100% epic win, massive trolling and HERESY) and I've come to a point where I've lost my sanity- I mean, consider him about 80-90% finished.

Behold, Ancient Sisyphus, in all his glory!

It's been a while since I painted a model as big as this one, and holy Emperor did I forget how difficult these things can be. At first, I thought I had totally ruined this guy (large fleshy parts are NOT my favorite), but as always, Agrax Earthshade saved the day. I also went kind of crazy with the dead Space Marine, his guts got a layer of Nurgle's rot, followed by a healthy dose of BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD, which I also liberally applied to the rest of his torso, and then tried some sponge weathering on the rest of his armour.

Here's some detail pics, showing off all the delicious gore:

In case you're wondering, the dead Marine and helmet belong to the Novamarines chapter, in reference to the one "action" scene Sisyphus starred in in the Crusade of Fury.

He's still pissed off that he didn't get more screentime last Crusade

That's all I have for now, let me know what you think!

Hey everyone, I've got a tiny update for you.

A couple of months ago, I bought a trio of Stormcast Eternals Retributors at a whim during one of my bits hunts. The trio went into the drawer for a while, as I didn't really have much of an idea of what I wanted to do with them, but now I think I've found some use for them.

The plan is to convert two of them into Horus Heresy characters, with the third remaining unconverted (as I actually like their look a lot). I've slapped a couple of bits together to make the first one, which you can see here:

Erasmus Kzar, Butcher of the Western Reach, Tyrant of the Southern Marshes

Erasmus Kzar was once a mere Sergeant in an Expeditionary Fleet of World Eaters Legion, serving dutifully alongside his brethren in the Emperor's Great Crusade. Kzar quickly discovered that his greatest talent was not his martial prowess, but his oratory skills. With the power of his voice alone he could marshal the Astartes under his command effectively even when they were fully in the throes of the Nails. Later, during the Heresy, he grew dissatisfied with his rank and began to plot against his superiors.

Eventually, Kzar slew the Expeditionary Fleet commander in a duel, thereby taking control of the entire warhost. En-route to the rest of the Legion, the fleet was cast adrift, appearing unexpectedly in an isolated Loyalist system. Kzar unleashed bloody havoc upon the worlds in the system, conquering them in violent, brutal battles.

Through it all, his powerful voice guided his brethren into organized assaults, displaying an acumen for strategy previously thought anathema to the World Eaters' way of war. Dark whispers claim that he carefully avoided the implementation of the Nails, but the infamous atrocities he conducted proved otherwise.

By the time the system had been fully conquered, Kzar was a changed man. Rather than continuing the battle against the Loyalists elsewhere, he began to rebuild the ruined worlds into his own personal domain. He began to see himself as a true leader of men, greater than his peers - even greater than his Primarch. His vanity went so far that he had specialized armour crafted in the image of that worn by his father, and proclaimed himself as true heir to the World Eaters.

What eventually happened to Kzar after the Heresy is unknown to Imperial scholars, but dark whispers still speak of the atrocities committed by the golden-armoured tyrant in the farthest corner of the galaxy...

At first, I wanted to give him two chainaxes, but while test-fitting the left arm I came upon this pose and I was immediately sold on it. It gives him a bit of a Mussolini-vibe, almost as if he is really holding a speech in the midst of battle. I already added two obligatory skulls to his belt, but I'll add some more trinkets here and there later, as well as scrap away the Sigmar icons. He currently also carries a flamer, but maybe I'll swap that out for a more fitting weapon.

With the creation of the dude above, one of those mighty big hammers was ready and waiting to receive new purpose, and I was eager to oblige. A SM Captain I had lying around became the hammer's bearer, the result of which you can see here:

Doesn't look too shabby, now, doesn't it? The right hand is still angled a bit oddly, but I'm sure that won't be too hard to fix.

Now, I mentioned I was going to convert two of those Retributors into HH characters, but that isn't completely accurate. The second one will be part of a little sideproject that's been forming in my mind, which revolves around something that preceded the Horus Heresy... but I'll reveal more once I've thought it out a bit more

That's all I have for now, hopefully I'll have more to show you next time

Thanks guys!

Building the Tyrant apparently hit some sort of creative spring in my mind, as I suddenly found inspiration to create a merry band of traitors to accompany the maddened World Eater from the stack of bits I have lying around.

Introducing...

Traitors from the Agusta Sector

The Agusta sector was once a relatively peaceful place in the galaxy, for although the Feudal worlds that formed its domain had their petty conflicts and wars, they had never known the fury of the Xenos or the insidiousness of the Primordial Annihilator.

That changed during the Horus Heresy, when the sector was assaulted by a small World Eaters fleet. In less than two months, two planets were cleansed of all life and the remaining three were fighting a losing battle against the World Eaters' onslaught, until eventually all resistance was silenced by the roar of chainaxes.

Once the sector was conquered, however, a particularly violent Warp storm appeared, which cut the sector off from the rest of the galaxy. Stranded and left to their own devices, it did not take long for the remaining World Eaters to start fighting amongst themselves, forming their own little kingdoms in the blasted lands of the Agusta Sector's worlds.

As the Horus Heresy concluded in the fateful battle over Terra, the Warp Storm hanging over the system lifted, bringing it back on the galactic map. During the Scouring, many Traitor warbands stumbled upon the sector in their flight from the Loyalists, only to find themselves hunted or captured by the sadistic overlords ruling the planets.

But a true reckoning is approaching the Agusta Sector, as the Loyalists hound down all who turned from the Emperor's Light...

TL;DR: CHAOS FEUDAL WORLDS, MOTHERFETHERS.

Ahem. So yeah, the idea is that the people represented here hail from Feudal worlds tainted by the malevolent touch of Chaos, so I've tried to add some more medieval elements into the models. Of course, there's still a difference between the World Eaters and the human soldiers below them, which should be visible by their armour and size.

So let's have a look at them, shall we?

The Tyrant of the Southern Marshes

I've introduced the Tyrant last time, and there haven't been much changes to him so far. I only added a CSM backpack as a test, and I've got to say I like the look - what do you guys think?

The Tyrant's Hand

As you can probably tell, this one's a World Eater, one of the few who decided ruling over his own kingdom was a bit too much work, so he decided to become the bodyguard annex executioner of one. He goes around bare-armed, as his original arm plates were ruined throughout the years and he finds it easier to move without them.

Knight of the Order of the Bloody Gauntlets

Under the Tyrant's reign the military forces of the old kingdoms were drastically reformed, turning once loyal and brave noblemen into a group of self-serving sadists, who terrorize the local populace for sport. The Knights of the Bloody Gauntlet are but one of the many orders within the ranks of the Tyrant's armies, each vying for more power and influence in the Tyrant's court.

One important change to note is the bastardized form of Power Armour these men are clad in. From where it comes or how it is made is unknown, but it has become the norm within the armies of the Agusta sector, suggesting the existence of a Forge world or Mechanicus outpost gone rogue.

This guy's truly a mess of bits slapped together, mostly WHFB chaos bits with some 40k ones sprinkled throughout. I tried to make the armour really look like some sort of melange of power armour and traditional knight armour. I'm not sure if it fully works yet though...

Retainer

This simple footsoldier serves (rather unwillingly) as the Tyrant's retainer, keeping his Lord's mighty daemonic sword safe until his liege requires it. One would think that to be a great honour, but the Tyrant's soldiers dread being chosen as the sword's bearer, as staying in close proximity of it for too long has rendered many of its guardians insane; some even changing into terrible monstrosities, of which even the bravest soul dares not speak...

A random Bretonnian body kickstarted this little conversion, and I'm really liking the outcome. He really has that 'evil henchman'-face, don't you think?

Cherub

Lastly, a tiny Familiar/Cherub, who accompanies the Tyrant at all times. This was a very minor conversion, I simply replaced the original face with that of a tiny skull.

Standard

Every kingdom needs a flag, and the Tyrant's kingdom will not be an exception. I have no idea what I'm going to put on there, but I'll figure something out.

So, that about covers everything! Hope you like what you see, and let me know what you think
