I voted Fast and Furious. I just wish I hadn't already started on my Nephilim (its been about half done for over a month now...). Now I have to decide if I should do my Ravenwing Black Knights or one of my Khorne Daemonkin units, of which I have Raptors, Warp Talons, and a Heldrake that would all fit the theme. I don't want to try to rush the 'drake since it looks to be pretty hard to paint, but of the others which one should I do if F&F wins?

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Is there an official Dakka painting competition?

Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

UK

I believe there have been in the past, with sponsors and prizes and judges and all the other stuff this humble enterprise hasn't got!

We just have that in the title to make it clear this is a competition 'on' Dakka, but not a competition 'by' Dakka, if that makes sense.

On that note, I was thinking we could do with a snappier name for this challenge. Any ideas?

yeah - but what we've got here is (imho) the most supportive pack of folk. seriously, look back. The amount of comadrie and supportiveness in this is barr none. Big brushes for Para for starting it

Yeah, they've got prizes, but we've got style!

All kidding aside, through, I agree entirely, I'm still somewhat amazed at the uptake and positivity about the whole thing! What's more, some entries over the last two months have really shown people themselves, which is fantastic! Long may it continue!

In other news, TC^DC Deputy Manager has kindly volunteered to manage the League side of these challenges, tracking from month to month and having all the winning entries in one place for us to stare at, so look out for that soon!

Glad to help. Making a spreadsheet is always so ...... organised. I couldn't be happier. I'm on the case with the thread and will post links in all of the painting challenge threads so people know where to go to find it.

I like something along the lines of the painted chalice or the iron brush or something..

maybe the water pot of doom...

the local competition at the store is the fellowship of the brush...although we haven't had a painting/modeling competition for a while.

The store's display case has an honored imperium statue in the case with a paintbrush instead of a sword in it, for when we have models for display and for judging.

Well, Fast and Furious it is. Challenge will go live on the first of May (next Friday). Hopefully this gives you guys enough time to plan something!

Out of Place and Three Colour Maximum are tied in second place, but as the former was already a carry-over from last month, 3CM will be brought forward to next month.

Nice, I think I'll try and make a unit of Cyboars I've been planning... it maybe a little too ambitious as I've yet to even convert them.

I may get 1 finished I guess

I went with Fast and Furious. I may even get one of my Ravenwing bikes done before I head back to the UK for 3 weeks. So, a week to paint a model. Hmm, I just might manage it!

So I'm assuming the topic of next months contest is "fast and furious"? I didn't get to even work on my entry for last month because of real life stuff so I'd like to try for next month.

You can't fix stupid, but you sure as hell can kill it.

I have two Kum bikers and two more in shipping that will be very happy about this month's subject! Now to figure out some suitable biker-esque paintjobs for the bikes. Good thing there's a new season of Sons of Anarchy on Netflix!

If you don't enjoy playing against people with unpainted armies, break into their house when they sleep, paint their figures for them, help yourself to their cheerios and then your problems will be solved.
Well, my opponents usually don't have more than 1-2 Wave Serpents 'cos Serpent spam is very expensive in real life money.

I have 2 rather dynamically posed converted models ( a death cult assassin and an arco-flagellant), they are both posed to look fast and pretty damned furious, any chance these would qualify?

I expect we'll be seeing a lot of bikes and stuff for this one. So maybe this would be a good time to paint my Chaos Raptors instead of my Ravenwing, just to be different. Or maybe I could do my Predator Annihilator (it is furious, but the jury's still out on whether its fast enough or not!). Decisions, decisions...
