You're being needlessly contrarian.

No offense intended, but it's really not the same thing.

I can field Skitarii without requiring a second codex for any kind of formation.
What you were suggesting involved two different books.

No guarantee that Dark Angels Bikers will get grav actually.

They would have to repackage the Ravenwing Command Squad/Ravenwing Bike Squad/Ravenwing Knight box to include the grav stuff...and I just can't see that happening.
Devastators and Tactical Squads is an entirely different story, as the basic kits for those come with it.

As I'm just starting Angels of Absolution be nice to know if it's worth holding on before getting anything.

Then again I just picked up a DV set for 11 pounds.

No problem. Saw it on Facebook and checked the AU site. Glad to see that it's being included in the pictures, hopefully it makes it into the codex. Would be a nice addition, along with centurions (but I'm just dreaming and hoping we get those).

I wouldn't count on custom Chapter Masters or highly customizable Company Masters being a thing. BA only got Dante and Gabriel Seth for Chapter Masters and no way to make a unique one. Captain/Company Masters are just not very unique.

You got a bargain there, usually it goes for around £29!

Any more going spare?

But if want to use the the formation with the Cult Mech and the Knight you need the White Dwarf.

Which isn't in the Skitarii, Knight, or Cult Mechanicus book.

It was a White Dwarf formation.

can we hurry up with this space Marine release so that we can focus on Dark Angels?

I'll be watching this release a little closer than SM as I am putting aside my Angels of Absolution force as a small army I can whip out whenever I start playing.

It's nearly large and diverse enough to go already, but I'd like to field a few more diverse options.

Grav bikes would be nice. But over all plasma buffs is the dream.

The upgrade kit seems a little weak compared to the old one.

The ravenwing upgrade kit is still around right? Not the headlights, but the bits etc?

The DA Box doesn't quite seem like good enough value at €80. Not quite tempted to buy it when I don't even have the big rule book. I could buy DV again, get softback rules and more Chaos for cheaper.

My main hope is that there's some "get's hot" modifier relic. If not removing it, then a protection against the wound or some such...

I like the aesthetic, and I like the rapid fire plasma's on Ravenwing, but when it comes to a useless speeder and a heavy weapon that's nearly suicide for troops, Plasma just doesn't work.

I know it's arcane and they barely understand it but, it's just laughable that an army that takes so much blows up all the time. And yet Grav, which has be "re-discovered" could be making an army wide appearance as if it wasn't a big deal...

@DefiantLambdas - Seeing as Mechanicus has a get-rid-of-gets-hot, it would be very nice to see Dark Angels with it too (and arguably, much more useful).

Exciting times!

I had a thought about this (based upon absolutely nothing solid, so take it for what it is worth).

It would be quite a clever idea of GW's if they released the Space marine Codex (next week) and then released Codex: Dark Angels as a small £20 Codex, a la Skitarii. Use the Space Marine Codex (so we need to buy two books), have a list of what we cannot touch (Chapter Tactics, this character here, here and here), and add a handful of new units and formations.

Job done.

Keeps us Dark Angels current with regular Marines, gives us access to their formations and squadrons (I quite like the idea of Demi Companies and Predator Squadrons), but we retain our own flavour.

A win for us?

Why do that when they could make a regular sized book and charge us regular sized prices?

I hope GW finally puts out a good, balanced DA book, but I'm a little skeptical as the new C:SM seems to have copy/pasted the other book while throwing in formations and giving out free dedicated transports.

My hope is that they actually take the time to adjust the points for most of the units.

Here's hoping still!

I heard it was 5ppm less as well. If it's just 5 points then big whoop.

175 base for the unit, so 5ppm, but THSS is +10 points.

I think I wishlisted this change not too long ago.

I hope people are not suggesting that the DA codex is broken or not up too much, before it's even been released.

That would be a first on Dakka

Well, that would hardly be new, so much as it would be returning to the 3rd edition mini-dex. However, I think those were great, both as a way of expanding rules and since it would allow the other books to stay consistent (no need to have DA, BA, SW, and SM drop pod where there'd be an inconsistency when one was updated).

I'm not sure you could do a "mini" codex for DA at this point as there are more DA specific units they any "mini" codex.

You could just have add on rules for DW and RW for sure bit keep them using the base CSM rules for sure. But then you still have RWBK/DWK/two DA landspeeders/2 DA flyers/5 special characters/Interrogator Chaps/DW and RWBK command squads and company veterans.

So I would gladly drop company veterans for stern and van guards. Interrogator Chaps could just be a quick upgrade to regular chaplains I suppose.

I would rather not buy 2 books and likely wouldn't do it. I buy the DA book and hope RW rules are contained fully in it. But if the DA book was just a port of the CSM book with certain things swapped out and DA specifics added in plus DA specific formations I could be cool with that.

The only hope I have is for RW not to have the Sammael tax to run. Or at least Sammael to actually mesh with RW instead of standing out like a sore thumb.

Just giving Dark Angels a set of Chapter tactics of their own would lock out all the other special characters by default.

The teaser page in the next White Dwarf Weekly magazine has been leaked (in german actually). It could be that Dark Angels may not come next week. A loose translation

- Hall/Chamber of Heroes (seems to be a focus on 'legendary' Marine kits or character models as part of their Citadel Hall of Fame series)
- Bits and glue
- Forgeworld

It does not rule out Dark Angels at the end of June, obviously

Shown at the back of the same issue is this

See my post above And it does not rule out DA preorder next week. I think it will be at 27th of June. But the gakky german translation on the teaser page can by anything, next week DA is possible, although not likely

Warhams you Schlingel. Ok missed it, sorry. Of course it doesn't mean DA are impossible next week but according to the hints it seem unlikely.

From a quick google search and hit on the 40k wikia, the Hall of Heroes is in the Imperial Palace apparently. I'm not sure if that hints at something or they just decided to reuse the name for something else.

The grand hallway of the Inner Palace that leads to the Eternity Gate, called the Hall of Heroes, is filled with the banners of every Imperial Guard Regiment and Space Marine Chapter that has ever loyally served the Emperor. At the end of the Hall of Heroes lies the Eternity Gate itself, forged of adamantium that has been heavily layered with ceramite to provide extra protection from weapons fire.
