It is too expensive for them to do it themselves and they would demand far more control than any Hollywood producer would agree to.

Because the animated one they tried really, really sucked?

A live action 40K movie would either have to focus on the less over-the-top stuff, or would need a hideous budget due to the amount of CGI that would be required to do it properly.

And ultimately, the cartooney, over-the-top nature of the 40K universe would be really hard to make work in a live action flick without it just looking absurd. It's far better suited to animation, IMO, where the brain allows a little more leeway for silliness.

The reason GW isn't going to make a non-animated movie is that a non-animated movie of 40k would cost an obscene amount of money to make but have a very limited audience. There just aren't that many 40k fans who will see it purely because of the name, on the scale of mainstream movie sales, so it would have to make the majority of its money from people with little or no knowledge of 40k. And if you're not getting much out of the name recognition why pay GW a share of the profits? Just make your own "grimdark space war" movie and rip off the same things GW ripped off and keep all of the profit for yourself.

You do realize that the goal of a movie is to make money, right? If you have to spend money on bribing people just to get them to consider your idea it's a pretty safe bet that you're going to be losing money everywhere else on it.

i guess your right, but the movie could be on something simple, not to in depth but they could make something based around one of the novels like rynns world or the horus heresy.

Cool props and cool uniforms but bad background and bad acting (judging with no sound). About what I expect really.

Better to have it filmed on a "natural" world fighting rebels. Introduce us to some back water Imperial Guard force subduing backwater rebels in a forest. Cheap and introductory to the universe.

That would still cost a ton of money, and the people who actually make the movies could still make their own similar story without paying GW a share of the profit. The simple fact is that GW is tiny relative to the movie industry and has very little power to get a movie made.

I belive that GW will not create a 40k Movie any time soon is that the universe is so large you can't just start "in the middle of it" without people getting really confused.

Not everyone knows 40k back to front so even if you made a movie about a Guardsmen (the most relatable of possible characters) you still would have only scratch less than 1% of the universe and leave those who DON"T know 40k confused.

Not really. The movie doesnt need to cover any races, or explain any tech etc. Just needs a good story.

I watched a movie the other night that had aliens hunting the last human on some planet. I knew nothing about the universe, we see nothing about the universe outside of some weapons and 2 aliens. Yet it was a cool movie. The only terrain was barren desert.

The movie will suck if it goes deep into the universe, they gotta just take the good parts and use 40k as a setting instead of using it as the base.

The problem is that if you make a movie like that then you have no incentive to license the 40k IP from GW. You're not getting much name recognition out of the 40k brand and all of the setting elements can be used in your own IP. So I wouldn't be at all surprised to see more scifi movies with some of the same ideas as 40k, but I doubt there will ever be a proper 40k movie.

I agree. I was simply stating that would be the way to go.

I think I saw a movie that felt similar to 40k called mutant Chronicles. Movie kinda sucked but the setting and grimness was very 40k. It was then that it hit me, grim movies like that usually tank in ratings (as in suck) so putting up with using someones elses idea for a movie that will likely be forgotten is a bad idea.

BUT if they made one, it would have to be shallow. I think they knew this, because their last movie only touched on aspects of 40k so that anybody watching it could understand what was going on.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with it.

The fact that it's so over the top was my whole point. It's awesome... But would look absurd in a live action movie.

Because this is a family friendly forum, where we talk about family friendly things.

And honestly I hear they're so poorly written anyway that they shouldn't be spoken of even on less family friendly forums.
(I don't read Fanfics anyway, unless I'm profreading something I wrote or it's a SisterSydney Novice Ginevea tale)

Because Live Action movies would cost tons of money and GW, as prolific as it is, doesn't have millions (still millions) of people each paying them $15 per month Guaranteed with minimal physical goods production required like BLZ.

Serious tho, movie making can be tricky. And when they are making a 40K Live-action movie, it will cost at least tens of millions (a decent "low-budget" production nowadays costs around the one million mark). For GW to guarantee a money-back, and simultaneously push their products to a wider audience (because that's what they do making a movie for plastic toy lines.) they will need hundres of millions. GW ain't gonna pay for that -- that's like their annual gross profits.

Besides they are gonna need loads of actual actors, a number of recognizable movie people (that's conservative way of say "movie-stars", kids), screen-writers, and finally, actually promotion that's on TV and . I think we are all overestimating the amount of money GW makes -- it's more than, if not all, the vast majority of us, but it's really not a huge amount considering the size of a business they are running and the people they had to feed.
