This appears to have just kicked off. Printed rubber mats that supposedly hold texture. I wonder how this compares to Zuzzy's product? If it's in the same league, I would be interested to know how the printing works.

This seems like quite an odd Kickstarter, it seems like everything is good to go so I do not quite understand what they are actually funding. That said I hope the business is successful and offers a quality product, we always need more game mats.

It could be production equipment perhaps? If they've only got one or two printers handling everything, the ability to buy a few more could be handy. They might want to lay that out a bit more in their KS page though.

That certainly may be the case, I just think the kickstarter page is a bit lacking in terms of information.

Hopefully they can add a video or two to the page as well. But from a UK perspective it will be nice to have an alternative to Deep Cut and Game Mats.EU.

Yeah,
It doesn't mention shipping costs... just ships anywhere.
In the absence of postage costs, people will assume it's included in the price.
The KS price of a 6x4 is the same as it is on their website without shipping??
tiny wargames UK wrote:6 x 4 feet - ...NOW £55 first 50 clients
plus UK delivery £10.00

So the only benifit of doing the KS is to wait months and save on shipping... anywhere in the world!

My problem with these ships anywhere in the world KS is someone's subsidizing someone else's shipping!!
Fact is internal UK shipping costs less than shipping to the US.

Shipping is always a killer and turns people off KSs so I can understand why they want to hide it.
But at least when I back a US KS and see plus $20 for shipping to the UK I know why.
US shipping is included in the price and the UK excess cost has to be paid by someone.

This KS hides the fact extra World wide shipping needs to be paid by sharing its cost amongst all backers.
Hiding information always seems dishonest.

The problem is I don't think £55 is good value and I'm thinking it's probably because I'm paying an extra £15 towards yank shipping.
Pass.

£40 including UK postage and I'd be interested.

Panic...

Agreed, if only for lower shipping costs.

While I'm really quite positively disposed towards a UK mat maker, something about that KS page is setting my spider sense to tingling.

I like the idea of these and like others having a UK based supplier is very attractive.

I'll be watching this for more info. A video with close up shots of a figure or two for reference to the texture would go a long way, maybe some 15mm and a 28mm model? Also some pics of some 15-35mm scenery too.

Good luck with the KS!

Need more 's in my life!

I like the idea Tiny, but I'd appreciate a bit more info/pictures on the textures. When I look at the photo of the mat being rolled, I can't see any raised surfaces that would imply different texture types (like on a photo of a Zuzzy mat, for example, see below).

How many millimetres high does the texture go?

That word means something completely different in graphics design, which is the way Tiny is using it.

He is? Hot damn, I thought the product would have a raised surface (or physical texture) in some way, as opposed to literally just being an image lasered onto a piece of rubber. I can't say the latter evokes my interest much at all, there's several places that already do mats like that.

Well, it's nothing new, but more selection is always good. I like the idea of printed mats but I don't actually like any of the graphics currently on offer from other suppliers. First one to make a good cityfight layout will get a sale.

Just a technical note: your 'cobbles' are actually 'setts'. Cobbles are rounded while setts are square.

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

i don't think your texture and his mean the same. He call texture what we call theme or subject.

So shipping isn't included!!!
you should definitely tell your backers you plan to charge extra for shipping!
Within the UK you charge £5 for roads and £10 for mats.... what will your US backer have to pay??!!??

Sorry for being so negative but you're not doing very well at presenting your product.

Also I don't understand the pricing on roads at £25 when you are clearly just printing 8 on a 6x4 sheet and slicing it.
That should be £6.80 per 6' road. plus £5 delivery = £11.80 and a fair deal. Why £25 plus delivery!!!?

£25 plus £5 delivery is insane!

You could charge £10 per 6' road and still turn 45% more profit than selling the same amount of material as a 6x4.
And we might think it ok... Come on Tiny... how do you justify this cost?

For these roads you are charging £200 for what is a '£55' 6x4 mat sliced up 8 times...
We are not stupid.

Panic...

What's the connection between this and http://www.wargamevault.com/product/147594/Battle-mat-057s-Mississippi-River?manufacturers_id=6198

They seem have have a lot of the exact same designs...even the photo backgrounds are the same. Did this KS company just steal their pictures, or are they used with a license, or are they sister companies?

Isn't there already a company that makes photo-mats that are basically 6'x4' mouse pads? I'm really unsure what this rubber backing has that will be an advantage over what is already on the market.
