My suggestion as well. Dude is painting a huge target on his head, make some alliances that last until he is off the table.

Apocalypse is the game style made specifically without any kind of game balance. By playing it, you have chosen to forgo calling anyone on anything.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Yep. My local GW's get around cheese spam by getting everyone to place down whatever they want, and then the store clerk (or game organiser) balances the two sides. Sort of. There's usually an imperial bias, because they can't justify having 7 SM chapters punching eachother, but both sides get a similar number of SH vehicles. This tends to result in the most absurd gak happening.

I would be stoked to see someone bring a warlord, let alone in a formation. If he dropped all that cash on it he deserves to enjoy it. Right up untill the entire table shoots him off the table.

"Because the Wolves kill cleanly, and we do not. They also kill quickly, and we have never done that, either. They fight, they win, and they stalk back to their ships with their tails held high. If they were ever ordered to destroy another Legion, they would do it by hurling warrior against warrior, seeking to grind their enemies down with the admirable delusions of the 'noble savage'. If we were ever ordered to assault another Legion, we would virus bomb their recruitment worlds; slaughter their serfs and slaves; poison their gene-seed repositories and spend the next dozen decades watching them die slow, humiliating deaths. Night after night, raid after raid, we'd overwhelm stragglers from their fleets and bleach their skulls to hang from our armour, until none remained. But that isn't the quick execution the Emperor needs, is it? The Wolves go for the throat. We go for the eyes. Then the tongue. Then the hands. Then the feet. Then we skin the crippled remains, and offer it up as an example to any still bearing witness. The Wolves were warriors before they became soldiers. We were murderers first, last, and always!" —Jago Sevatarion

Team up with the others to take down that damn Titan. Then maybe he'll learn.

Now if you're running Eldar, take a bunch of wraithguards in wave serpents (or with DE allies - archons with webway portals) and then shove all that D down his Titan throat.

The warlord is AV15 and immune to melta...

Your best bet IMO is a bunch of wraith knights with swords... In the formation which buffs their speed and stats...

Taking eldrad and barroth and 10 d cannon wraith guard will solve that problem. Or an Air Force. Or invisible units armed with power fists and thunderhammer. Or 9 grab cents with tiggy and 4 Libby's conclave giving you prescience, gate, invisiblity, forewarning and sanctuary casting on a 2+ re rollable. Or a phantom Titan. Or 15 wraith knights with heavy d cannons. You get the point.

Then tell him to stop cheating. The lancer and castigator are not legal options for that formation, so he should not be allowed to gain its benefits.

this. also playing with more than two armies breaks even more of the rules.

yeah this is my feeling. the warlord is a LOT of money and he'll only ever be able to put it down for apoc. enjoy the warlord being there

Play unbound.
Run nothing but fire dragons and venoms.
You can get 30 units of venoms and fire dragons for 5K.
I find that 150 melta guns solve most problems.

Or, and this might result in a more enjoyable game for all concerned, sort out a scenario in advance - something a bit more involved than just "King of the Hill". If you work out in advance what models people want to bring, you can assign some special objectives. For things like Titans, I'd suggest as long a board as possible, and put some sort of hardened bunker, etc, at the other end that it has to take out. Out of weapon range, so the thing has to move.

Titans, the Warlord in particular are big centrepiece models, so this should be the centrepiece of the game.

If the Knight formation - or any other formation - doesn't fit the scenario, then don't use it. Yes, the Apocalypse rules don't enforce much in the way of balance. That's why it's important for you to do it.

They tend to do very poorly against AV15 that's immune to melta rule though

Here read the formation. http://www.lounge.belloflostsouls.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=14137&d=1431888091

I hate to be that guy about rules but the lancer and castigator are not viable options. Also the knights have to start in reserves and only auto come in if the titan didnt move.

Getting smoted sucks but seeing a Titan on the table is something most of us don't see very often. I agree that he bought one and doesn't play with it often so he should run one when he can but running a formation like that is too much in my opinion.

But yeah get another player or 4 and team up on the titan.

Besides the whole lancer legality,

Apoc is the time to get silly and bring what you want.

cant fault the guy for bringing em.

Teaming up for shenanigans i feel is one of the best (and hilarious ways) of dealing with it. then the bloodbath after wards

Also start bringing in more anti tank fire power. or If he is running that formation, deploy ALL your modes in a line prevent him from coming on board

Dont fire dragons have armourbane, not melta?

Also, apoc is unbound

No, they do not. They have melta and assured destruction (+1 when rolling on damage table)

Could try the Wraithknight formation where you can have up to 5 of them each gaining +1 WS and BS per model. And then take multiple of them.
You could get 3x5 of them plus an extra two as "distractions" for 5k.
Thats 15 ws9, BS9, 2D shots a turn Gargantuans.
Attacks wise you'd have 75(?) str 10 attacks on the charge hitting on 3s + stomps.

Can't use stomp on the Warlord, IIRC.

Few other ideas:

Multiple Harridans - You can get 6 at 5k - thats 36 str 10 shots with very little possible retaliation.
Lysanders Titan hunter formation - very risky but possible if you take literally enough of them.
Multiple predator assassin squads - You'll toast his knights, then depends on the Warlords retaliation.
Multiple Fireprism sunstorm squads - as above.
Huge unit of first company vets (apoc formation) could work also - their speacial rule gives them PE which is a great rule, they get 1 orbital strike free asset and can all DS.
Mutiple T ctans - simply charge them in - 9 attacks on the charge at ws6 str 9 and fire of fWoW before you go.
