Firstly Ill leave the link page here to the new Kytan Daemon Engine of Khorne
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/New_Stuff/KYTAN.html

Secondly, I like it. Personally. I love the fact it's I5 at least, possibly a little over costed for its low HP, but that can be worked around with how easily Chaos has access to Invisibility via Be'Lakor. (Cheesy, I know) It's nice to be able to fire at a unit, and IF you kill it still be able to charge something else. IWND Helps out a lot, and for ONCE it has a good WS as a SHW that doesn't function as gak. FINALLY, a Khorne Walker has what it needs to function properly. Good Initiative, and good WS.

What are your thoughts? Aside from the fact the thing could have probably used a little more work on the legs being so "Bare"

Finally is what I say.

Personally, I think the new regular chaos knights are better.

You mean like the blood slaughterer? lol. Least as long as you ignore the whole oldschool rage thing.

It still seems too expensive to me. The knights are cheaper but not an awful lot worse. I don't like adding belakor to the mix as that means its your putting 800+ points into a unit. Of course, those 800 are like a bajillion times better than what we currently get.
That said, on it's own. I like being able to charge at whatever is closest while still being able to put some pretty serious hurt on something that could be the other side of the table. the 5 I really helps too. But it's not overly too expensive. Basically, the only thing that will give it pause are wraithknights. And I prefer multiple S8 shots over a pie plate like the knights. I'm not sure I like the model though.

The knights are pretty cool, but the costs of the daemon upgrades make little sense to me and I would have liked more weapon options, though I suppose we might be seeing more knights eventually. I also think the chaos traits are a bit lack lustre. I would have liked more stuff like warp beacons or extra evil explosions when it dies or so, like our contemptor. Not just the 'daemon knight of' effect. Would have added some nice flavour. Other than that though, I think they'll perform pretty well. They work really well with the legacies of ruin too.

I really think they missed out on putting cool Cloven hoof feet for the Kytan.

And just because I'm not too familiar with Forgeworld, what is the deal with using "experimental rules "?

Very interesting, but quite expensive ££ wise. I know that all FW stuff is, but few other armies NEED it the way Chaos does... Hell, combat-oriented CSM only get Drop Pods from FW with FW rules! Like $120Cdn for a bloody Dreadclaw, PLUS shipping and I need to buy an IA book to use it.

They are essentially "beta" rules. Once the Chaos Knights find their way into an Imperial Armour book, they'll be "40k Approved" (but with potential modifications to their rules based on feedback).

I'd argue it's a sidegrade. The tracked thing was bad, this is also quite bad.

No need to buy FW. Take a normal knight, stick some spikes from your bits box. Paint an 8 pointed star on it. Boom - Chaos Knight for the same price as everyone else.

330 points of savings over the stupid looking Lord of Skulls? YES PLEASE! Think I am going to have to add one of these to my list. I've kept pretty good about not buying standard GW plastic kits, but will still get hooked on the occasional new Forge World model. Been adding Decimators, contemtors and deredeo's to my armies of late. Still have a Greater Brass Scorpion on my list too, but would love to add one of these into the equation as well.

Tzeentch doesn't really strike me as a "daemon engine" god. I think a GC would fit him better

Tzeentch, the Lord of Change, not change a twisted heap of parts and armor plate into a gleaming, brilliantly intelligent and sadistically murderous automaton?

Come now...

That said, I think this Khorne one looks a bit pants. Very.... GitS mutant cyborg.

These "fast" legs really remind me of the type of legs seen on all the old Epic Slaanesh Knights.

When it comes to Tzeentch I keep half expecting FW to do an add-on kit for the Helldrake to make it a 40k equivalent to those old epic Tzeentch flyers; a beaked skull head and maybe a hind section.

Tzeentch would easily be worth making Firelords and Doomwings, and I think Forge World have the talent to make something interesting out of Silver Towers.

Firstly, all the did was take the plastic kit for the daemon engine and stick it's torso on chaos knight legs. Nonsense.

It needs 2 more hull points, that or no penalty to initiative when charging.

It's side armor being 13 means it can't be glanced by str 6 barrage weapons anymore (my thundercannons noooooo)

It's gun needs more shots, 8 is just for "hurr khorne" reasons. That or a points decrease. Probably 100 points down but I'll settle for 50.

Otherwise it's a fine addition to any chaos army that isn't fighting infinite grav guns.

This is so true. There isn't a single Khorne player that doesn't have at least a dozen berzerkers in that exact same pose. Just trade out the gatling gun for a bolt pistol and its the exact same thing.

This model is just boring. One thing many people forget about when complaining about the defiler, soul grinder, maulerfiend, forge fiend, Heldrake is that at least the model is something we havent seen before. They were at least new in design and some people loved them for it just as much as other didn't. But this, this is something I've seen across the table for over 15 years, just bigger.... Sadly bigger isn't always better.

See pics of my Orks, Tau, Emperor's Children, Necrons, Space Wolves, and Dark Eldar here:

I've been thinking of adding some Khorne to my Chaos Army so I'm happy.

As far as the OP's question; I think the Defiler really should have been a SHW given its overall size, volume, and foot print relative to other vehicles and to Knights.

I can't fault FW for making a kit that does what a lot of people were converting anyways and even if its a bit off I think its better than most conversions people were doing.

I think its a bit pricey but so are many FW units, they probably should have made them 444 points and tell you to buy two. I don't think it needs more hull points; being "daemon" it has an invulnerable that isn't dependent on facing and I think that makes up for some of its shortcomings.

Yeah i also was expecting a giant with Flowers instead of SKulls, and a Garden tool instead of the Cleaver, with a Jolly face instead of the Grimskull face...Oh no wait..., i din't, because its the freakin God of Blood, Skulls and Carnage...

Your comment is just like saying that there is Again Hoods and Robes on DA models and its boring or that Necrons are still robots and thats Boring...

Honestly what did you expect?( no i'm really asking has it is an interressting question, its not only sarcasm)

Something for any of the other gods for starters. Khorne is boring and played out, but clearly GW and FW don't have the talent to do anything else anymore.
