Well... this looks awful.

Jack Black looks like the only good thing in this movie.

I'm sure the main kid will be... okay. He was in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and was pretty good there.

The romantic interest seems super generic, and the friend seems very hate-able

At least it'll be better than the 90's TV show from Canada

Thoughts?

Why a movie?!?!
Why not a Saturday morning daily show?!?!
BRING BACK SATURDAY MORNING CARTOONS AND KUNG FU THEATER!!

I actually think they would make more money on a daily show then a movie.
Is Goosebump story books still being published?

Yeah. They still make them. Stine stopped writing them for a long time, but 7-8 years ago he started writing them again.

He still writes them. But they are no longer mere Goosebumps. Last I checked they were Goosebumps: Horrorland (which is a themepark that has played a key part in multiple Goosebumps books.)

Hey, Stine gets to expose a new generation of kids to his books and twentysomethings get to talk a nostalgia trip.
Win-Win.

Christopher Pike was better. /snob

It's a dire situation when Jack Black is expected to be a film's saving grace.

I liked goosebumps... that hurts.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

As far as television goes, I was more a fan of Are You Afraid of the Dark myself.

Did love the Goosebumps books, especially the choose your own adventure ones.

I've only seen a few of the episodes from the TV show. But they were still pretty bad. Then I saw the Jontron review... yeah. Until then I had seen all of like 4 episodes.
Then I learned truly how campy this show could get

Also, RL Stine is 71. I never realized he was that old

Do you think everone's ghosts in this one?

I notice my posts seem to bring threads to a screeching halt. Considering the content of most threads on dakka, you're welcome.

On yeah that was my jam right there. That show was actually kind of scary at times

This isn't supposed to be scary, I don't think.

I think this is more of a nostalgic trip than a movie meant to be "Goosebumps: Are you Afraid yet"? I get a distinct B-movie feel from the trailer.

I've never feared Death or Dying. I've only feared never Trying.

AYAotD was the best show to ever appear on Nickelodeon. Ever. Fact.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Avatar was alright, but AYAotD has the power of nostalgia. And horror. Beats Avatar in my book.

Pretty disappointed they didn't just make one of the Goosebumps books into a movie, and not just try to roll them all into one.

Yep!

I remember that!

So was this in another kids show

Though by the age of sixteen I was reading heart of darkness......

So maybe I am just screwed up.

I am still waiting for one of Edgar Allan Poes stories to be made into a movie.

Goosebumps was pretty creepy when I was a kid, but now....

Its just silly. A talking puppet?

Buffy the vampire slayer made it scarier and that was for girls and teenagers! (And dudes!)

Well. This does take me on a trip down Nostalgia lane to the days when I was young and the school librarian. In between bouts of inflicting grievous injury on those whom would dare disturb my domain/attempt to vandalise it (serious note here - vandalising a book was considered just about the worst thing that you could do for your health in my time as the librarian. And this was in a school where almost everyone carried a knife, the windows where smashed daily and assault was common. You respected the library or you stayed away, but you did NOT damage a book in any way shape or form. Not unless you enjoyed emergency surgery) I would while away the hours curled up in a corner with a book in my hands. We had a modest but respectable Goosebumps collection and I loved reading them when I was in my younger years. Looking back now I think that despite this appearing to be some form of comedy movie I will enjoy it, if for nothing more than old times sake.
