so the spooky realmgates have been hanging about for a fair while in one form or another... (I don't know fantasy well enough to know if the other bit of terrain is released or not.. if it's not possibly something we'll see later?)

Taking a hyper casual tabletop game to a super competitive video game festival seems like a really poor idea.

Triumph and treachery was the end 2013 I think, so I guess the photos must have been done early 2013?

Your probably right,

and a lot of the really deeply involved players (who would have picked up T&T) are probably also those least likely to be really involved with AoS which seems to have most traction with those who'd given up WHFB when the gave size/price point went full crazy

I was talking more about the fact that no one copped to it when T&T came out.

On the contrary, a piece of casual entertainment pie with a beer or two after a hard session of competitive gaming is what most people look for to wind down.

I think its pretty crazy to think they had those terrain pieces in their vaults for what 2 years?? Makes you wonder what other cool models they have hidden in there.

Insomnia also seems like a good place to promote the Total War Warhammer videogame.

Really?

I know the people I play Fantasy with had been lusting after those scenery pieces since T&T. I could have sworn it was discussed before on Dakka as well.

They're really going all in on this new system. Especially if the rumors of all AoS releases until fall with Tau.

Really like all the new terrain.

I'll be getting that dais at least.

One thing I can say about GW is that I've always enjoyed their plastic scenery kits. Their pretty solid builds too, considering the roughhousing my kids have given some of those pieces.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Yeah, pretty sure it was Kroothawk that posted the pics. They've definitely been pictured on this site before.

It makes you wonder if GW had also been sitting on AoS for 2 years as well, or if they just never got around to releasing the terrain and just re-purposed it.

Which means they sold the End Times range and even the recent Wood Elf and Dwarf stuff with this in mind. Hmmm

I have no doubt that AoS has been planned for some time. You can't just churn out plastic kits on a whim; there is a great deal of lead time in terms of sculpting the kits, tooling the moulds etc. It isn't the sort of thing you can just whip out the next month. I would imagine even with the tooling and production done in house it would require a lead time of 6 months or more. You also have to take into account machine capacity and production slots as well.

A lot of companies have parallel development paths, though. You don't just build the next version, you build the next TWO versions at the same time, and the two teams leapfrog each other, not always knowing exactly what the other is up to.

It makes sense if your development cycle is, for instance, 4 years, but you want a release cycle of 2 years. You can't always shorten the development cycle just by throwing more people at it -- sometimes, more people means more inefficiencies, and other times, you have equipment constraints (like, you can only tool 1 model at a time, but you can sculpt more, so you want to keep your tooling team busy as much as possible).

You see this sort of thing in tech R&D all the time. Intel is famous for it on CPUs (like Core processors).

He's covered a few odds and sods to do with AoS, at least with regards to his tale set their.

Is is possible that any of the stormcast eternals were women, or members from one of the other races like aelfs and duardim? I actually asked about that. The answer I was given was...possibly? It's being left vague intentionally, was my understanding. Nothing stopping you saying yours are aelfs or whatever, if you want

Where Insomnia does have its competitive element it's more, from the times that I have been, about the Youtubers and meet and greets. The past few times that I have been they have had a rather busy table top and board game section. I can see AoS actually doing quite well there and if GW had more of a presence I would likely go more often.
