Well, Proof Pic time.

Japanese Yamato Battleship (1:1200), doesn't appear to be the best of kits, and looks like it lacks detail (flags, that golden thing on the front of the ship that all WWII Japanese ships seem to have, etc...) but it is a nice little thing and for 9€ I quite like it

For themes, how about "Paragon"? Just a model that embodies everything about their faction.

I could be down for this. Might give me a good reason to finally paint my Bloodthirster.

Reconsidering, maybe it should be "Paradigm". Pay a little homage.

Lot of solid stuff guys Still plugging away on the remotes. I got what airbrushing I'm going to do done... so now it's down to brushwork which means I can toss in smaller chunks of time (sans prepping and cleaning the airbrush) more often. One of the two is getting close to being fully based.

They're further along than this now, but here's the last photo I took of the pair:

Januine, I love the colours you've gone with! What made you choose those?

Have give up trying to freehand flames onto the Aquila for the time being, going to make my own hotrod style mask and stencil them on. Still blue, still white, just not having to spend a week learning how when I really do not have time.

Cheers BC. I just wanted a darker more grim and subdued look to the admech I'm doing. dark, brooding, secretive etc. The dark grey with a grey blue as a secondary trim colour go nicely together and play well with brass on the metal trim.

I'll probably wake up and hate this.

But here's the raw stencil. Gonna varnish over it and and clean the white later.

Bear in mind the raised spars will be silver and break it up further.

Jokes aside, that is where the heat vents are.

Also as you can see, if I put them flowing left to right, after painting the bars, there'd be less "flame" and more "weird tiger stripe".

Fourth feather bothers me with the lack of white, because the low tack mask blew off. Fixy tomorrow.

Not yet, poll will be going up later today. Not sure which subjects yet, but plenty have been suggested so I'll pick from there.

How about:

Orks (pretty self explanatory)
Small and weak (like grots or ratlings)
Big and Powerful (Like monstrous creatures)
Something old, something new (miniature must be made before 2000)

+1 vote for this... I'm sure a lot of people have oldies but goodies in their collection, or can trade for some. In a pinch, Reaper is a good source of material, as they have many ancient (but still awesome) sculpts. I think that the before 2000 date should be expanded to include minis for games that no longer exist, such as Confrontation, Vor etc.

This exact one actually featured in the last two polls, but didn't get in. So while the idea might come back, it won't be for a while.

Once we get four entries that made it two polls, but were never voted in, we should round them all up and make it so three’s the charm. Or three strikes, you’re out for the losers.

Not bad idea, I think there's been a couple like that already so I'll keep count.

Well, I've hit a snag as far as painting my Soul Grinder. I've run out of Screaming Bell paint. I'll probably get some on Saturday, but that means that I won't have it done for the tournament that day. Fortunately I can borrow a friend's model instead since mine is still in pieces. I should still finish in plenty of time for the painting challenge though!

Yeah, going back, it didn't just not win, it was the lowest vote getter.

I like the idea, but I think it would be a tough thing to get newer hobbyists excited about.

One possibility would be to do a series of speed paints one month. Instead of a one big project, have four (or two) shorter, week long competitions. So week 1 could be Something Old, Something New, week2 could be Weedy (models less than human size), week 3 could be Objective Markers, and Week 4 could be Sidekicks (familiars, squires, henchmen, etc).

I like the month timeframe. I, and I suspect a lot of others, have a lot of things on my calendar. While I can fit things in a large timeframe, something as sort as a week could be disrupted by anything from a cold to bad weather. Unless I have something built and ready to go, I need to spend time assembling, and then waiting for the weather to clear so I can break out the rattle can and prime. There is zero chance for something to go from concept to paint in anything less then a week for me. And that’s being optimistic. Plus things like my weekly RPG sessions, 40k game night, or even just The Wife wanting to snuggle on the couch and watch TV cut into my painting time significantly.

If we did want to try a speed round, that should be the only restriction. See what people can do in one week, with what they have on hand. I have plenty of stuff built and in the paint queue, but finding something specific in there to match a topic is hit or miss.

Wouldn't that be:

Week 1: Something Old
Week 2: Something New
Week 3: Something Borrowed
Week 4: Something Blue

Bit more work happening. Decided to muck around with some pigments and washes.

It's not the best photo, but you can see whats going on. Will have to put together a light box or something shortly.
