so what was that? like 3 days and the Israeli intelligence service discovered the leader and arrested him. If the Arabs worked this hard to curtail extremist we would see peace in the middle east.

Who killed a Palestinian child. Same as the Israeli army does with bomb runs as collateral damage. My point was that this "Zero-Tolerance" politic is hypocritical.

It is very good to see Israel taking a break from killing Palestines to finally crack down seriously on the rampant extremism in their own ranks. Now if the Palestines stood up and did the same, there'd be hope for peace.

I think Israel as a rule takes breaks from killing Palestinians whenever they aren't having rockets shot at them from Gaza and the West Bank. On the other hand, thanks to the UN the world tends to view Israel as the aggressor in almost every single battle/war that has ever taken place.

Prejudism against Israel as a country and prejudism against Jews is not mutually inclusive; it's perfectly possible to dislike Israel and not feel any ill will towards Jews.

I don't think that is the UN. I think it is the excessive violence the Israeli military uses in fighting the terrorists, the incredibly high amount of Palestine civilians killed in the conflict compared to the amount of Israelis killed, the continuing theft of what little land the Palestines have still left by Israeli settlers, the blockade of Gaza, the violence and racism often expressed by Israelis towards Palestines, assassinations of prominent Palestines abroad, the refusal of letting Palestinian refugees driven from their lands in earlier wars return etc. etc. etc.
Sure, Hamas isn't nice either, but their crimes and violence are on a much smaller scale. It very much gives an impression of David vs Goliath, with Israel being the Goliath, which causes it to be seen as agressor in the eyes of most people.

In rebuttal of Iron_Captain's arguments, I will leave Sam Harris arguments here, for a thought or two.

For those who don't have the time or will to listen to it:

Israel could nuke Palestine every day of the week and be done with it. The fact that they do not, and that civilian casualities are a) minimized whenever possible and b) investigated, while both Hamas and Fatah have declared on several occasions and made clear that they will slaughter every Israelian if they could, shows which side to chose if you had to chose.

(which, frankly speaking, no one has to, unless you were in immediate threat of being killed otherwise, which is usually a moment where you do not have the freedom to chose anyway, or only between cake and death).

And I absolutely despise the killing of civilians, the bombardments, the destruction and suppression of many possiblities for the palestine territories to ever build up a functioning, peaceful and (proto-)democratic society, nor with the apartheid policy, the isolation, the landtaking by religious nut-cracks (sanctioned by the ruling party) in Jerusalem and the Westbanks, the falcons, the lies and cover ups etc. I think these things are horrible and need to be solved and stopped as fast as possible.

But the reasons why there are not more Israelis dead are partly what everyone is complaining about: the walls and security fences, the profiling, the asymmetry of weapons & warfare.
One of the paradoxoi of that situation is if Israel openend the borders and stopped controls, the number of killed Israeli would rise immediately and exponentially.

Just google "Palestine" and "collaborator" to see what palestine militias do when they have possibility.

In Palestine territories, chances are high that the guy would have been celebrated (if he had been muslim, and the victims jews). THAT is the difference that we should not forget.

The main reason people see Israel as "bad" is that they have the power and the weapons. They don't need random terrorists attacking random Palestinians when they can just wait for a rocket attack or something to have an excuse for bombing stuff. The other side can't win a military conflict and negotiations never seem to go anywhere. If the Palestinians don't get huffy over yet another settlement expansion the Israeli will get upset over something instead. Neither side's leaders can afford to make peace because their own would turn on them.

Well, the ultra-orthodox jews come in useful there... One of them murdered the last Israeli Prime Minister that seriously tried to make peace.

When the continued expansion of settlements stops, then I will take renewed interest in Israel's case. Until that time, what do people expect? No group in history has allowed this sort of land grab to go on without violent resistance.

This is an interesting case. How do you balance the justice of the individuals involved when it conflicts with national security, or at least the national interest? My guess is these people are likely going to get screwed out of their judgement due to successful a bigger-picture argument. Maybe that's the best but it sure won't feel that way for the families involved.
