I'm sticking with the clone theory, either Luke or Anakin. Those are cloning cylinders she is checking out at the beginning! Wake up sheeple!!!

It will be interesting to learn *why* Luke has hidden himself away. It reminds me of Paul Atreides' self-imposed exile in the desert, in an attempt to wind down the Jihad. (From the beginning, SW has gotten some pretty good material from the Dune series.) In this case, maybe it was an attempt to calm the Force? As a highly powerful Light Side user, did the use of his abilities threaten to create an equivalent Dark Side response?

I'm calling it now: the "Character X is Lukes kid" theory is true, and Lukes just hiding from child support

Actually, I figured that Domhnall Gleeson was going to be his child. He even looks like he could be Luke's kid. But I've cooled on that. I suspect the only children will be Han and Leia's.

They should have simply done a reboot, recasting the major characters, and started 5 years after Endor with the Thrawn trilogy. That way Harrison Ford would have been happy and fans would have their Star Wars universe back the way it should be.

That's my guess. The force-user is definitely a Skywalker, because of the whole 'the Force runs strong in my family' speech from the second trailer, and I can't see a Skywalker kid enrolling in the Stormtrooper academy. Of course, they could both be potential Jedi...

I agree prefering JJ Abrams Star Trek is heresy, however it looks like for Star Wars there is a continuation of style and tone from the original trilogy rather than a departure.

To be clear, I never said that I preferred Abrams Trek... just that I liked it. It's different to original Trek... but that's fine, because I can like different things.

See, I was initially disappointed that they were dumping the EU... but on consideration, it was the sensible path. Regardless of how enjoyable the various parts of it are, by this point the EU is a bloated, contradictory mess, and that was made even worse when Lucas chose to ignore all of it except the bits that he particularly liked.

Disney could have tried to work with that, and adapted one of the stories from the EU into a film... but films, by their nature, always wind up changing things from the original source. And so that would have added in even more contradiction into the mix, through the differences between the movies and the original novels. And, ultimately, would have resulted in far less exciting movies... Sure, it would be nice to see the Thrawn trilogy on screen. But we already know that story. By contrast, I've seen this new trailer seventy bajillion times since last night, and I still have no idea what's going to actually happen in this movie, and I'm practically bouncing up and down with excitement.

Yes, this isn't the Star Wars universe that we've been exploring for the last 20 years. That's ok... I have all of those books. I can still read them when I want to. But now, there's a completely new Star Wars story that I get to explore as well.

That's a win, in my book.

Yeah, people are caught up in the idea of one or the other, but it could be both of them.

It's interesting to note how Kylo Ren's lightsaber and Rey's staff are aligned in the poster. It could be a compositional choice by the artist, or it may be meaningful. But even if it's latter, there are many possible meanings. Siblings are what many have assumed, but could a vengeful Ren be at risk of falling to the dark side?

My gut tells me that we may get a twist or two that we aren't expecting.

I just like how "dirty" everything looks in this trailer. So much like the original trilogy, even the parade ground looks gritty, the base looks gritty.

With the prequels, even a dessert planet junkyard managed to look clean and sterile.

Since we are talking about JJA Star Trek. I think that if we wanted to see a Star Trek reboot style Star Wars then we don't need to look much further than the prequels, all shiny and full of talking and moral dilemmas.

I have faith that this will be a dirty space action movie.

Unless Abrams hired an actor and shot a bunch of scenes already just as a fake-out, he's not. Mind, Luke could be somehow involved with the Knights of Ren, but I personally doubt it.

A couple of shots across them. A long one in the second trailer and a flash here, both times he's with R2 around a campfire.

That and at the end of the trailer they show Ren from the back with his helmet off attacking Boyega who is defending with a blue lightsaber*. Boyega seems less than pleased.

*Is that the one Anakin used that was passed down to Luke and then was lost when Luke's hand was cut of in ESB?

Hmm....is Rey crying/angry over the body of someone furry and brown???? It almost looks like the figure has Chewie's bandolier.

Also, remember that this is Rey asking about if the "stories are true". The girl who is essentially this generation of hero's Luke Skywalker, growing up and living on a crappy backwater desert planet used as a junkyard and dreaming of leaving for adventures on a ship. Such people may not exactly be up on all the galactic history, so in Han Solo she's talking to a folk hero at best.

And also the fact that he's just too skinny.... Hamill has that comfortable middle-aged spread going on.

For those who don't know;

Mark Hamill has not aged as well as Harrison Ford. Even if he were in the trailers, most people probably wouldn't recognize him. He's also just plain not as photogenic as he used to be (why do you think he went on to become a wondrous voice actor ).

I don't expect him to be a major figure in the films, if only because in the larger Star Wars Universe, he's too big a figure. It's hard to imagine Luke being in a story and not becoming the center of attention. Sidelining the character is probably a purposeful decision on the part of the film crew.

He will only show up in the third act of the first film, but from thereon in he'll be around. They're not sidelining Luke. Hell, the whole reason JJ got involved is because Kathleen Kennedy asked him "What do you think happened next to Luke?". They certainly not side-lining him because he didn't 'age well'. Neither did Carrie Fisher, and she's still there.

Everyone I know was able to get tickets. I personally bought five for a 0730 at the Cobb theater near my house. After the initial rush, everything appears to be fine.

Yeah, it's kind of funny, given that he never had facial hair in the OT, that current day Mark Hamill with a beard looks more like Luke Skywalker than clean-shaven Hamill does...
