When I heard he was running again, I thought oh ok another Trump side show. But he is leading the rebublican in polling by a lot.
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2016/president/us/2016_republican_presidential_nomination-3823.html
I'm guessing the Republicans are rallying behind him, because he is anti establishment, although is he really?
I can't stand to listen to him talk, to be honest. Whenever someone asks him a question his only answer seems to be...vote for me, I'll fix it because I'm Donald Trump.
He never really seems to give a reasoned thought out solution, just sound bites.

I definitely think he's getting a bump from his plain speech. People are so used to tuning out the usual rhetoric.
It doesn't help the other candidates are trying to go after him for exploiting loopholes in their rules and the legal corruption available to the rich and powerful. It's kinda playing right into his hands.
Though he hasn't been taking full advantage of it.

Good summary but your forgot, when someone questions him he does the following
1. Says just wait for my plans
Then
2. Later he says they were mean to him
Then
3. He starts calling them names and how they are stupid and lazy. Sometimes he jumps directly to #3.
Put him side by side to some old Morton Downey rants and you'll think they were brothers.

He's not a career politician, so he's got that going for him.

So's PT Barnum. They are both about the same level. Trump's success story is impressive though, born in poverty, the son of a mere multi hundred millionaire, who pulled himself up by his bootstraps and mob connections to become a low billionaire.

Trumps is winning because:
1. It is a huge field. There are 17 people running and the average person probably doesn't even know who half these people are let alone anything about their policies.
2. Trump gets a TON of press. No seriously I can't turn on CNN for 5 minutes before they are talking about the most recent "gaff" that he made. Part of this is because he is great for ratings, he is a reality television star, but also unlike a normal politician he never backs down, is never wrong and is probably the thinnest skinned person out there. The guy doxxes his opponents when they attack him for gosh sakes.
3. There is a small percentage of republicans that love this guy. This group hates the establishment and cares deeply about immigration.

Truly a story to be inspired by.

PT Barnum was involved in politics for almost 75 years. Probably not the best example...

Don't know a republican that doesn't like him. It's not a minority. Everyone knows who Ted Cruz is but Trump is still leading him by a large margin. I think people like trump because he is a winner and a doer - it's exactly what this country needs. Not some dingbat bible thumper.

Agreed. And begrudging him for being born into means is kind of ridiculous considering that pretty much every Dem politician today comes from a privileged family. I don't care whether my president came from wealth, I care about what he can do for the country. We have too many lawyers (i.e., professional BS artists) in politics today, and too few scientists and engineers. While Trump isn't a scientist or engineer, he understands numbers.

We're over a year out from the actual election, months away from the first primary. The GOP polls did the same dance in 2012, with something like a half dozen "front runners" before the quietly accepted establishment candidate was nominated.
Personally, I think he's a media personality that's just enjoying the spotlight, but I'm not shocked that people are intrigued by him. Ross Perot, a man that was woefully unqualified and possibly insane, grabbed about 20% in the general election as an independent. There are a lot of people that do not see what they want in the establishment candidates.
