'Murica! (again)

The iron circle will be out soon enough have you tried a proxy or just waiting for the model? Man, Will they be sweet.
Maybe you can get early release and have someone attending pick you up some. Buddy used the plastic Kastalan Robots as proxy but compared to the FW model they don't hold a candle.

Still waiting on those warlord parts that were for sale at the last event.

And no ultramarine pads? Or word bearers? You would think they would have those two in the first wave to tie in to calth.

I wish they would release the headhunter design shoulder pads instead, I much prefer those.

Nice! The IW pads of spot on. I only wish the had done such justice to the regular IW shoulders and torsos.

They should work on both plastic and resin Cataphractii - I think the description may mention that as well.

from the FW website:
It includes five left and five right shoulder pads, and will fit a unit of five resin or plastic Cataphractii pattern Terminators.

10 GBP to upgrade a Cataphractii squad actually doesn't seem that bad, either.

But oh, it's going to get pricey for the squads that I'm going to use the Cataphractii Special Weapons Upgrade Set with.

The weapons is where things can add up.

Imagine being a WE player and needing all those chainaxes. Even if you go third party alternative, it still really adds up.

Yeah, the special weapons pack would be mitigated by being able to spread the contents out through a few squads. But since I have a stupid number of plastic Cataphractii squads to build and outfit, I got a total of four of the special weapons packs.

I'm going to have to seriously decide which plastic C. Termies are going to other armies (such as 40k Salamanders, conversions for Legion of the Damned, Deathwing, etc) so I can at least narrow down how many Alpha Legion shoulder pad packs I'll need.

Muh Ultramarines are sad. They are Ben in BAC and got no love.

Qq and all that.

But god damn the ones they released so far look amazing!

I'm sure they'll be rolling out more legion Cataphractii pads.

I'm probably in the minority of folks what were underwhelmed by the new pads. I feel they are the work of a pretty inexperienced designer.

What makes you say that? There's very little real estate to work with on those pads and everything looks iconic and recognizable. How do you think they should be different?

I think the thing that bother me are the overly thick plate rims on the inner side. They look easily twice as thick as the flanges on standard cataphratii upper shoulder pads. Another thing that's bugging me is the manner the iconography was modelled on. On many of them it looks like they look like they took the 2d iconography and just extruded it and stuck it on. To put into perspective, I've seen sophmore level Industrial Design students make much higher quality CAD models than those used to produce these.

Things like the pads need to look good, but also need to be reliably and repeatedly cast/manufactured.

There are many 3D sculpts on Shapeways and other sites where the renders look great, but the actual print is terrible and they cost more than the FW ones (and I know I'm comparing apples and carrots comparing FW resin to a 3D print )
