Is it ok to proxy broadside with crisis?
Yeah, no worry, as long as it's not in tournament
Only in game with a friend, preferably outside a shop
Never do it, ever!

Hey everyone. I kinda ask the question as part of a list building thread, but now it's really bugging my mind lol.

How do you think people will react to me proxying 5 broadside out of 6 with 5 crisis suit?

Bonus question: is there something out there better for Broadside proxy?

Short term until you get the actual models? Sure.

Long term or at events? No.

A dreadnought.

Not kidding, a broadside is FAR bigger than a crisis. It's bigger than the dreadnought too. A crisis is NOT a good proxy.

To try it out? Dreads of all kinds are probably fair game.

They really aren't that similar in terms of model size. Maybe once to try out the list, but you should get your hands on the real McCoy.

For friendly games, sure as long as both players are cool with it. I'm sure most players will understand if you want to try a couple of games out with them before you commit to buying them (especially with a new rumoured codex coming out soon), whether it's in a shop or outside of one.

For tournament play, nope.

As you have one Broadside, keep it on hand in order to check Line of Sight, Cover and any other situation where the larger Model would matter.

I would be fine with it as long as it stayed as a broadside throughout the game, and didn't magically turn into something else.

Try to use something with the same base, at least (60mm)

This isn't exactly true , since the old ones are still legal , and are crisis suits with extra bits on them

True, and I even own a pair.

But doesn't make it right to make NEW ones. its just a case of "that model isn't right, but we won't invalidate your old models because that's a jerk move"

I wouldn't dare to run my old broadsides as anything but HRR, and even then-I'd rebase them to 60mm if they ever will see serous play (maybe after update I hope?), making them stand taller.

Sounds like it'll be fine to just try some, but I wouldn't recommend doing it long-term.

A new day, a new time zone.

The fact that broadsides are on 60mm bases and significantly larger means that to be fair, you should at least by trying to use a similar base size. Crisis suits are quite a bit smaller in that regard.

I started playing in 6th edition (after the new broadsides came out) and my Broadsides are some of the older "upgraded" crisis suits I bought from Ebay and added 3rd party missile systems magnetized to the shoulders. Nobody has complained about them and some even like seeing the older shoulder mounted style weapons over the hand held ones of the newer kit.

Now in the case of actually proxying then its usually fine in a casual game (as long as your opponent is cool with it) but tournaments don't allow proxies typically.

I think it would be most 'fair' to use something roughly the size and shape of a currently available Broadside. Something like a Space Marine Dreadnought should work fine.

Ultimately, you need to ask your opponent.

As to what you actually end up with, it sort of depends. The older Broadside kit, which is no longer for sale from GW, but tends to be pretty available on eBay, was literally just a normal Crisis Suit with metal feet, arms and shoulder mounted railguns. If I recall correctly (FW rules being ignored), you could only equip it with the railguns and a smart missile system. If that's what you want to field, feel free to use the older model. Nobody can complain as it's an official model, assembled in the intended fashion. High Yield Missile Pods are only available on the newer kit. Some opponents may have a problem with you using the older, smaller model and converting it with the newer weapons.

The old broadsides, the ones I got accustomed to, we're just crisis suits with a little bit of extra metal gubbins on them. No problem with it. If you have the correct loadout, no problem even in a tournament, as far as I'm concerned.

Well I am happy I started that thread haha. I didn't know that Broadside use to be Crisis size. But yeah, my plan was to proxy for a couple game, until I put my hand on some cheap Broadside on ebay (Cuz I ain't paying 60$ a pop for broadside if I need 5)

I would say no to this, if you want to try before you buy fair enough but I dislike people proxying for stronger models. Just run your crisis suits as crisis suits and put up with maybe having a less optimised list.

My friend has proxied a Crisis as a Broadside with my permission, inside the GW store in Manchester. Our Derby one doesn't allow it.

Just make sure to extend the Crisis models base. The Broadside base is eqaul to that of a Dreadnought.

Placing the 40mm base on top of a 60mm one is the easiest way to accomplish this rebase, and gain some height.
