Subject: 40k War Scrolls - Tau Empire specifically
Has anyone considered making custom war scrolls for Warhammer 40k units? I'd love to have the option of playing my Tau Empire against my buddy's Ogres.
I'm thinking something like the below. I'm not interested in a 'straight translation'. I'm more interested in making something that fits the fluff and spirit of the Tau/whatever 40k race and works in the Age of Sigmar core rules.
Thoughts? I'd really like feedback. My intent is to make war scrolls for all the various models and if successful start working my way through the other armies I own. Ultimately, I'd love to see all the 40k models playable in Age of Sigmar.
War Scroll - Fire Warrior Team M 5"; Sv 5+; W 1; B 6
Description Fire Warrior Teams are composed of 6-12 models. Most Fire Warrior Teams go into battle carrying Pulse Rifles, but some choose instead to fight with Pulse Carbines. All Fire Warriors can fight with their mostly ceremonial Bonding Knives should the need arise.
Shas'ui The Leader of a Fire Warrior Team is called a Shas'ui. The Shas'ui can take either a Markerlight or a Drone Controller.
Abilities Bonding Knife Ritual This unit's Bravery is considered to be 2 higher whenever there is no enemy unit within 3".
Drone Controller During the Hero phase, a model with a Drone Controller can nominate one Tau Empire Drone unit within line of sight. That unit can immediately move up to 2D6" OR make an out of sequence shooting attack with all shots directed at a single enemy unit.
Markerlight During the Hero Phase, a model with a Markerlight can choose to 'light up' an enemy unit. Nominate an enemy unit within 16" and line of sight, roll a D6 and on a 4+ place a Markerlight Counter next to it. Immediately before making a shooting attack, any other Tau Empire unit can choose to remove a Markerlight Counter from an enemy unit to gain +1 to hit rolls when making shooting attacks at that unit.
War Scroll - Drone Team M 10"; Sv 5+; W 1; B 6
Missile Weapons Pulse Carbine; R 12"; 2; 4+; 3+; -; 1 Melee Weapons Drone Head Butt; R 1"; 1; 5+; 5+; -; 1
Description Drone Teams are composed of 4-12 models. Drone Teams are equipped with Pulse Carbines. When necessary, Drones can ram their enemies in close combat.
Shield Drones Models in this unit can be Shield Drones. Shield Drones don't make shooting attacks as their Pulse Carbines have been replaced with a Shield Generator. Units containing a Shield Drone ignore mortal wounds on a D6 roll of 4 or more.
Marker Drones Up to 4 models in this unit can be Marker Drones. Marker Drones don't make shooting attacks as their Pulse Carbines have been replaced with a Markerlight.
Abilities Markerlight During the Hero Phase, a model with a Markerlight can choose to 'light up' an enemy unit.
Networked Targeting Array Drone Teams re-roll to hit rolls of 1 in the shooting phase.

I plan on working my way through some starter scrolls and playing a test game with a friend. I'm anticipating no real issues.
I have to decide how I'm going to treat Transports. The tanks are easy. They'll just be War Machines. The Riptide will be a Monster. Independent Characters will have buffed wound counts to be more surviveable outside units, etc, etc.

Manchu wrote: When you playtest, what do you play your Tau against? Can you post the warscrolls for that faction as well?
Sure. It looks like we'll be play testing on Thursday. Chance are pretty good it'll be Tau against standard Age of Sigmar units. Knowing my opponent's collection, it'll likely be either Khorne Bloodbound or Nurgle Rotkin.
I'm a little torn on how to handle Crisis Suits. They have such a wide variety of equipment that I'm going to have to simplify. I'll be posting more in this thread between now and Thursday.
Description
A Devilfish is a single model. It has minimal armaments, equipped only with a Burst Cannon and two Attached Drones. Devilfish are primarily intended to carry followers of the Greater Good to where they need to go. Some Devilfish are equipped with Disruption Pods while others are equipped with Automated Repair Systems.
Abilities
Drone Deployment
A Devilfish may detach its Attached Drones during the Hero Phase. If it does so, it loses access to it's Attached Drones attacks for the remainder of the game. Setup a two model Drone Team unit within 9" of the Devilfish. These models may not be Marker or Shield Drones.
Self Repair Protocols
A Devilfish with an Automated Repair System heals 1 wound each Hero Phase.
Stealth Field
A Devilfish with a Disruption Pod adds 1 to all save rolls made against shooting attacks.
Transport
During your movement phase, one Tau Fire Warrior or Tau Pathfinder unit numbering 12 or fewer models can embark onto the Devilfish. To do so, nominate a unit fully within 6" of the Devilfish and remove them from the table, setting them aside. Only one unit may be embarked on a Devilfish at a time. Any unit starting a Movement phase embarked on a Devilfish may choose to disembark. To do so, place the unit on the table, fully within 6" of the Devilfish. They may not move further this turn. If a Devilfish is destroyed, deal d3 mortal wounds to any embarked unit and then place any remaining models fully within 6" before removing the Devilfish from play.

Manchu wrote: Oh I thought you were playing against another AoSified 40k faction LOL.
The real end goal is to allow a gaming community to come together and play with the models they prefer. I would imagine that I'll be playing Tau against Space Marines as often as I play Tau against Stormcast Eternals. 30 seconds of creativity can create fluff reasons. Ummm... because the warp? Boom, fluff reasoned.
My friend plays Orks, so we'll likely be making Tau Empire and Ork war scrolls first.

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

I would do all vehicles with a damage chart.
The diminishing effects are a great way to represent the damage chart of 40K.
In AoS, anything with 8 or less wounds tend to just take wounds, things with more than 8 has charts.
I'd go no chart for 2 hull points, and charts on 3 hulls or more.
I'd love to see Nagash vs Stompa.

Generally every unit has a slightly different weapon.
Reavers, archers and Seaguard all have different stats on their bows.
I'd do the same from Drone carbines vs Firewarrior carbines.

Good feedback. I'll take this into consideration.

Looks great - One of the joys of AOS for me is the ease of making units and armies from any universe
Look forward to more - If I get the time might write up my Sisters for it

I think the shooting might be too good out of the kroot.
2 shots at 16 on a 4+/4+ is pretty good, and it's the worst shooting unit in Tau. It might set the baseline too high.
Maybe make it 1 shot, and the sniper rounds: reroll to wound if you did not move in the previous movement phase.

When I'm done I'll put up a PDF with my homebrew warscrolls and I'll also put up a blank template. I'm just using Word with basic tables added and one of the blue design styles.

Very cool, but I would let Act of Faith re-roll all hit rolls. It's only once per game and many, many units can already re-roll 1's all the time.

If you're still trying how to do Crisis Teams I would recommend making different units for certain combinations that are common, otherwise you could make them sort of like the Skaven Stormfiends.
