I've visited Alaska numerous times (pa lived there). It's always been "Mt. Denali". You're even corrected if you said "Mt. McKinely".

Alaska gives cash incentives to be a legal resident there. I live in WA. You all live in mainland USA. Who cares. Doesn't effect any of us and we know damn well the funds to change every official government document to the new name going to be a nice LONG process.

Well, to be official it has to go through the Department of the Interior, which handles the National Park Service.

I think the new old name is a much better statement of heritage and culture than naming it after some dude no one really knows or cares about just because he happened to have been president that one time and some other dude wanted to politically campaign for the gold standard.

So the people who live in the area WANT the name changed to Denali...it was previously named after McKinnley who is from Ohio...I say good on Obama.

As I've expressed my opinion in the currency thread, I'm ALL about honoring famous people in our history. But...this seems like an odd honorific for McKinnley, and the local voices are being heard about what they want. I think it's a good move by Obama.
