After a heated debate with my friends, they are still adamant that an Xbox one is better. Which one really is?

But of those two, the PS4 is.

I've owned several XBOX systems and several PS systems since their first inception. Last generation, the 360 was clearly superior to the PS3. This time around, I believe it's the PS4.

The PS4 just seems to a have a lot more going for it than the Xbone this time around.

About the only thing that I think will matter are the small number of console exclusives.

Take your pick. Personally I think the PS4 has a more robust library thus far (many of the worthwhile XBone exclusives are shooters), but many of the big name titles have been going multi-platform.

This debate will never be won by either side.

I don't have either, but I will get a ps4. Mostly because I hate the Xbox control, even with my massive hands I find it cumbersome.

PCs are technically better, but I'd rather splurge once every seven years than have to upgrade a rig every two to three. Plus, I like having a big screen. It makes msg prettier.

I have a PS4 and I'm not planning on buying a Xbone, but this generation it seems to be all about the exclusives - see which of the two consoles have the exclusive games you like and buy it.

I think the PS4 just ekes out ahead of the Xbone in terms of raw processing power.

Microsoft tried pushing the Kinect with the Xbone, but that effort's already dead.

PS4 has the upcoming Mobius VR headgear, which is apparently pretty good.

PC.

If it's between the two: depends. The PS4 is the stronger console and PSPlus is vastly superior to Xbox Live.

In the end, it boils down to console exclusives.

Having witnessed many a console war during my time on this planet I have to agree with those that say that ultimately the only thing that matters is the exclusives and which ones appeal to you most.

In every console iteration there is endless debate about which console is technically superior. That hasn't really mattered since the N64 / Playstation days as ever since Microsoft have appeared on the scene developers have just developed for the lowest common denominator anyway. The only time technical superiority matters is when looking at exclusives, which takes me back to my first point that your choice of which console to buy is based on which exclusives appeal most to you.

Have you held the Xbone controller? It's amazing compared to my 360 controller.

I own the Xbox, but I don't have any favoritism one way or the other. But the backwards compatibility update in November is the bee's knees. You can play 360 games on your One with your 360 friends.

Xbox 360 definitely is the better controller, hands down...or...on...Xbox controller on PC, there you go, magnus opum.

I always enjoyed the xbox controllers over playstation, but the PS4 controller is good.

Honestly, they're pretty equivalent. I will say that the free games I got with xbox gold were MUCH better than the free games I get with PSN.

Xbox gold gave out actual AAA games which were just a few years old, but PSN just keeps throwing crappy indie games out. Honestly, some of them are ok, but overall they're very lackluster.

Once a few years pass, perhaps PSN will start giving out older decent games.

If you play sports games, and take two identical TVs, with identical HDMI cables, and put them side by side with a PS4 and Xbox, the PS4's graphics are definitely stronger.

In the previous generation this was also the case, as when I saw Madden on 360, the "grass" looked like that supermarket turf at the seafood counter but the PS3 grass, you could definitely make out the blades, see stuff kicking up during plays, etc.

On the whole, I obviously prefer the playstation. I think the controller is simply better set up, and easier to use. The few exclusive titles that I do play, tend to be PS exclusive, and as I said, when I've done or seen the "identical setup" tests done, IMHO, the playstation passes the eye test on the same games.

The only exclusive that I feel I missed out on is Killzone.

But Gears of War is a good consolation prize

It comes down to what you are willing to pay, and what is comfortable in your hands. I got the Xbone, 2 controllers, and 3 games for just over the base cost of the PS4 (Costco membership for the win)

It can boil down to as... what do your friends have?

I have both... but, if I had to choose, I'd go with PS4 (and just barely).

PS4 just has much better processing power, however, PS4 has massive room for potential upgrades because of stuff like PS+ and handheld systems like PSV. Potentially there could be future handhelds or the like giving you further options beyond the console itself. XB1 only has the Windows links, but if you are playing hardcore PC you wouldn't really be playing XB1 at all, and for flash games and the like the link with XB1 doesn't really matter.
Also, Dualshock 4's touch pad and other features give it a potential for future games to make use of, which XB1 can never do.

In terms of exclusives it comes down to preference. I've always been a PS man, but I loved the Souls games and Bloodborne exclusivity was a big draw for me for example, but then again stuff like Dead Rising 3 (IIRC?) Also looked great so its really a preference. Major games like Call of Duty, Battlefield, GTA, various racing games, etc, are always going to be open to both consoles.

I have both and much prefer the PS4. But I still have games for both. Most of my friends have a PS4 as well, so I'm sure that has a lot to do with it.

Yeah, don't sweat it. I picked it up the other day for $20 and it was just ok. Was your pretty basic FPS, like CoD but without any interesting weapons.

I voted X Box as I've never really been into Sony exclusives. Last gen was the first and only gen I owned a Sony console and I rarely ever played it, my 360 got all the love. Heavenly Sword was amazing but I didn't really enjoy any of the other exclusive offerings. Uncharted was meh, Infamous was a grossly inferior version of the Arkham games, Little Big Planet got old fast, Resistance was blah, mod nation racers was okay, and God of War 3 was a pretty forgettable game. And boy did I hate Demons Souls.

X-Box exclusives on the other hand I really loved. Halo, Gears, the first BioShock, the first Mass Effect, all amazing games. I also much prefer the controller, especially for shooters which is mostly what I play.

If youre going purely on metrics, the PS4 wins, but just barely. Might matter for some games, but in the end, itd depend on three factors: Do you like the controller? Do you like the exclusives? Do your friends have the same system?

If youre bothered by the technical side of things and want far better graphics than the alternative, a PC will always win.

Honestly, XBone going backwards compatible in November seals the deal. It wins with that. Otherwise, I simply got an XBone because most of my friends that I play games with have one.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

It's true. Soon you'll be able to run 360 games in glorious sub-30 FPS rates.

There is nothing stopping you from using an HDMI cable to connect your PC to a big-screen TV. My PC is connected to a 48" HDTV.

Then you missed The Last of Us, which was a late PS3 exclusive, and one of the best zombie-apocalypse games ever written.

There will always be good exclusives one misses if they only own one system. OTOH if you are a manly and virile gamer you will own both and play the best games on each; it is about the games not the system.

Also, Desubot may be right about PC.

PC. Following that, Nintendo as they actually try to do things differently that hold themselves apart from generic "PC with proprietary software" that is XB and PS these days.

But if I had to pick between those two, PS4, as it is superior in a purely technical definition.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.
