So not sure if anyone noticed this or not but when I went to google images of the new Riptide that is coming out, I was shown and image of a customed Gargantuan Riptide that someone made. The image lead me back to the forums here and it turns out a user by the name of Malbordus created his own custom Gargatuan Riptide for apocolypse games and gave the name The Tau X7071 Storm Surge Shas'vre. The guy did a good job with this custom kit and I thought it was kind of funny that possibly GW might have come across this and borrowed the name. Anyway here is the link to the original post:

With the name of riptide, another oceanic wave-related name is logical; that is likely the reason why the modeler named his the stormsurge.

Vehicles are named for fish, big suits for waves/weather. Little suits for their use(stealth and crisis, broadside plays on both use as multiple "big guns" and the naval aspect).

The whole thing does seem kind of odd in naming as T'Au is a mostly desert planet.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

It's entirely possible those are the low gothic callsigns for the suits and not what the crazy Tau language is.

Supposedly, the names given to the vehicles and such are Imperial designations, not translations from Tau... but, of course, I'm sure some BL author forgot that and had Tau referring to their stuff by Imperial designations.

Not strange at all when you remember that the whole race has evolved from fish!

I always assumed that the stories also translated the Tau designations to the Imperial ones to make it easier for the reader to know what they are talking about. Broadside is easier to remember than Fio'rasha or whatever it is they call it.

Go back far enough and so did we.

They have hooves, though - not feet - and their ancestors were more bovine than primate (compared to us).

EVERYTHING is told from the imperium POV - it's all imperial propaganda.

Just from our own history ...
Nato had silly names for the Warpac forces stuff and NATO stuff had "cool names".
(The nato codenames for Warpac things had Helicopters names starting with "H" - so we got "hip", "hind", "hokum", hetcetera. Fighter aircraft were "F" - "fishbed", "fulcrum", "flogger" and Bombers used "B" as in "Bear" but the NATO names for their own stuff never had to comply with this silly convention).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

They did the same thing in WW2 with the Japanese; fighter craft were given boys names and bombers were girls, iirc.
