It's only an FMC because there are no rules for flying infantry, so they made it an FMC but removed all the rules except those that concern flight.

Which, given the amount of infantry that exist in the game with wings, is really rather funny.

Looks like they've made one of the most diverse units in the game even more diverse. looking forward to seeing what combo's people can come up with with this.

Was gonna suggest iridium armour for the coldstar to prevent him meeting a swift end due to grounding but that's a sig. system which he can't take :/

I'd probably run a regular commander in a squad, Tau signature systems are too good to pass at the moment and body guards would be handy for extra wounds, which the cold star can only take in drones which aren't there when swooping.

So when it is flying, it suddenly becomes subject to Monster Hunter? That could suck for a T4 model.

Its a flying monstrous creature all the time, whether swooping or gliding, just without fear and smash and the "monstrous" stuff.

Psychic shriek hits everything hard, if anything this guy should be able to survive it a bit better cause you have to hit him with the witchfire with a snapshot cause he'd be swooping and he's LD10 with 4 wounds so you'd like to think on average he might run away with a wound or 2 left, but like I said, psychic shriek hits everything hard.

The biggest problem is almost every army has an easy way to take this guy out. Either through massed shooting (Flyrants) or S8+ (Eldar/Dark Eldar).

Even armies with limited anti-air will have an easier time dealing with this than normal Flyers/FMCs.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

I agree, considering most Anti-air is designed to take out much tougher stuff than a T4 3+ model its not gonna be hard to shoot out of the skies even with the minimal anti-air most armies have these days.

I really hate the fact hes only T4. Its such a cool concept and sounds really nifty but I can't justify an HQ slot for krak missel bait. :(

Maybe we'll get some nifty Toughness booster support system to justify playing with this guy.

I see nothing that says he cant take signature systems, only that his support systems are limited. They do not have to spell it out and repeat themselves.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs

It says you take the Coldstar instead of a signature system.

This is why the empathy for Tau player is always so low.

That said, I do kind of wonder why they didn't just make him jet-pack infantry, then give him a special rule that states that he's only hit on snap-shots.

EDIT- Because they obviously want him to be immune to melee and templates as well. Duh.

Again I see nothing that limits signature systems. Those are allotted to the commander himself not to whatever he is wearing. Only the support systems are limited as it is currently listed. Obviously this will be very high on the FAQ list if it isn't spelled out somewhere else in the dex.

It could be phrased a bit more obviously... but I still think it's phrased pretty obviously if you read it out as a sentence.

The Commander may take up to four items from the Ranged Weapons and/or Support Systems lists, may take items from the Signature Systems list, and may take up to two Drones. INSTEAD, it may replace its Crisis Suit with the Coldstar Battlesuit, which comes with the high output burst cannon, missle pod, and you can take up to two items from the Support Systems list and up to two items from the Drone list.

Instead is the key word, it invalidates all the bullet-points above it.

If you read the rule like you're TRYING to read it, that would mean that there is no restriction from the Coldstar Suit to ALSO take an additional four Ranged Weapons in addition to the two weapons that it comes with. It seems obvious from reading it that you aren't supposed to be able to do that. So if you think you're allowed to pick a Signature System, you also think you should be able to equip this thing with 6 weapons.

Interesting....
There exists similar Units in other Codex's where an 'armour option' can be taken that radically restricts which other options can be taken. On reviewing to find out if the 'Datasheet Explained' section accounted for them or if something else limited them I noticed a slight difference on how they where worded to the one presented in the Tau Codex leak above. Instead of simply saying 'may take' they all say 'may only take,' and that one word does make a very big difference as it turns this permission into a restriction as well.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.

I really don't see how much more clearly it can be spelled out.

Words like "instead" and "or" have some pretty concrete definitions on how they work.

No way of knowing yet, but I REALLY REALLY REALLY don't think he'll be T4 with the armor choice. That being said, even if he was T5 /6, he might not be all that scary, honestly. He almost certainly won't be a IC.

Then again, a FMC with double fusion blasters could be a bit annoying, but no more so than, say, storm ravens.

What a pile of useless. Pass.

If it fails a single grounding test and its dead. Sure hope no takes flyers with s8 ap3, cause there isn't any of those in the game, not to mention when it takes a off wound from a lasgun and eats dirt. Plus no ranged weapon options? Nah this garbage can stay on the bench.

likely the enforcer suit will be T5 sv2+ but lose jetpack with the way this is going.

And it has no ranged options outside the burst cannon and missile pod.

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

In regard to Signature Systems, this is no different than giving a Space Marine Captain Terminator Armor. If they could take Signature Systems, it would say so, even though it did for the regular Crisis Commander part.

We don't know the actual total, just that he's the Commander +60. Given the Commander's stats are, as far as I can tell, entirely unchanged from the 6th edition codex, and also given the Commander was a reasonably popular and fairly good unit, I doubt his points have changed significantly in the new Codex. Somewhere a bit north of the Ghostkeel, I'd imagine.

I'm always a little annoyed that 3+ armor is the most common FMC armor, and the most common skyfire options are ap4.

I definitely like the gundam-y feel it gives off though.

Aren't most Skyfire weapons multishot though? It is pretty sad that a single shot from an Icarus Lascannon can kill this dude instantly.
