So I've been reading the Skaven end times book for a while now and I like it a ton cause I needed a boost to get painting my Skaven again.

I have read the Vampire Counts, Empire, Lizardmen, Ogres and Warriors of Chaos army books and some generic fluff on other armies but Skaven is my favourite army.

I like their story so much, they live in their own world and they would be near impossible to irradicate. I like their backstabbing nature and their technology and addiction to warpstone.
Look wise I think they are the coolest army in the range and the most unique in my opinion anyways, not that other armies don't look awesome, but the big monsters skaven have are awesome and I think the stormvermin are the coolest infantry models!

So what's your favourite army aesthetically and fluff wise and why?

It has to be Empire/Free Peoples for me. I love finding out how regular guys get by in the crazy worlds GW makes :-)

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Dwarves. Ever since I began reading fantasy novels I've always loved the Dwarves. In role-playing games like Pathfinder and DnD I usually played as a Dwarf. And when I got into WHFB I loved the fluff of the Dwarves and jumped into the army. Something about an army of short, angry bearded people who hold grudges just makes me feel good

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

Lizardmen as they were. I liked the whole appearance the army had, and I especially liked the combinations of the tiny skinks and the huge dinosaur like creatures. The skinks I especially liked because a: I like the small, ordinary citizen type people, and b: they're cute. Yes, cute.

Stormcast Eternals, because the models proportions are appealing to my eyes.

Sylvaneth, because walking trees always been fascinating since I'm a child. Who didn't fight tree monsters with a wooden sword as a kid?!

Vampires, because they are classic villains in my book.

Always loved Ogres, I like how they are powerful brutes who ride on giant monsters. Selling there skills to armies around the world.

Ogres since do not need high model count.

Bretonnians with Empire a close second and wood elves coming in third.

I'm completely obsessed with their lore in the old world and am really hoping for something to come up in AoS.

If not then I'll continue to play with their chivalrous spirit in mind and try to create kitbashed Bretonnians from future releases.( The easiest will probably be Stormcast+ Wanderers but the undead might have some interesting options.)

Vampire Counts. Undead has always been my favorite fantasy concept.

I actually think we might see something like that when we get a look in to the realm of Shadow...

ā€œIt was in lands of the Chi-An where she finally ran him to ground. There she kissed him deeply as he lay dying, and so stole from him his last, agonized breath.

On a delicate chain at her throat, she keeps it with her to this day.ā€

WHFB - High Elves. Because they are that awesome.

AoS - None.

WHFB - Skaven, Tomb Kings, Dark Elves, Beastmen. They all have very appealing aesthetics and some amazing sculpts.

AoS - Stormcast. They're so well designed and the miniatures are incredible. The Lord Castellant is one of my favorites, such an intricate model.

Lizardmen and Vampire Counts are currently in the lead. That's actually not what I was expecting at all.

If I could have voted for more than one, I would have had High Elves, Brets, and Ogres as well. I remember I wasn't a big fan of the High Elves until I got the IoB box, and started painting them. And realized "hey, these guys are pretty fun!" And Ogres are great because each model can be filled with individuality and personality.

And Stormcast in third place, that certainly was not what I was expecting...

I can't vote

Of the forces I have been painting up of late...

Stormcasts: I quite like these guys. I like the whole crusading/hit Chaos in the face idea, and I like the character models a lot.

Pestilens: Stinky rats. What is not to like? They have the hordes appeal, and the Plague Furnace makes for a nice centrepiece.

Sylvaneth: Easy to paint, the Treelords come up really nicely, and their presence is going to make the battles within the Realm of life interesting.

Bloodbound: As subtle as, well, an axe to the face, and the new models are very well done - the characters are good, but even the Bloodreavers are a cut above your average Marauder. Lots of daemonic support already present in the model range is a big bonus too.

Rotbringers: Spearheaded by the Blightkings, there are some really nice models among these guys. However, I think it is with the characters that my favourites lie - the Harbinger of Decay is on my painting table at the moment and I think it is one of the nicest GW models I have come across in a very long time. Very characterful. And that is before we get onto the Maggoth Lords and Glottkin.

Tzeentch: All old models at the moment, but I managed to find a really easy technique for blue armour that looks really good (to my eyes), which has got me liking these guys a lot more than I otherwise would.

I am on the fence about the Seraphon at the moment, but I get the book in my mitts tomorrow, so we will see if I am amazed/astonished/vaguely interested then.

Mh absolute favourite though? Can't say I have one right now!

I wasn't expecting that either. Lizardmen have always been appealing to me though since I like their aesthetics and theif fluff. But I don't have them nor will I have them since I don't have the 8th edition copy of their book :(
Still on the hunt for some heavily discounted ones though so maybe I'll find one

Looks like GW made the right call in making the Seraphon the first army that fully transitioned over then!

Perhaps also suggests they made the wrong decision by not giving them any new toys.

Beastmen. I love the aesthetics and the back ground. I loved how underplayed they were in 8th. They may not have been as competitive but I made people fear them. I was playing a demo game against someone at a GW, the GW manager was letting the guy use his Ogres and he lined up a charge into my xhw Gor with Beast Banner in the unit and the manager said you will crush that unit to the guy and went to help someone with a purchase and came back and his ogre unit was gone and was like WTF?

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

When it comes to fantasy I want something that is clearly fantasy. Humans are out (even more so if they look like any real historical style). I also prefer something other than the usual standard tolkien fantasy types (elves and dwarves).

Lizards, they were my first major army when I got back into warhammer around 6th ed after drifting in and out between 1st and 3rd and not noticing 4th and 5th. The advent of the plastic Dinosaur kits is awesome, I really used to be into dinosaurs as a kid and still love the idea of Dino riding armies (1st ed D&D battle system had a box showing barbarians riding triceratops and I used to dream of having stuff like that). The warhammer army list rules prevented such an army though. AOS with its more free form armies and the Dino army idea is what has pulled me back in, the repacked dino pack already has a few hundred pounds reserved ready to spend on it.

Undead to some extent - there are some really nice models, I also like the Egyptian theme of tomb kings.

Beastmen, the gors remind me of Broos in Runequest. I always had a thing for Minotaurs as well.

Skaven, not a modeler so never fancied doing them but they are the horde fantasy army I like. The idea of those mass rats in the sewers etc rising up may have been done before in Grey Mauser etc, but I really like the GW take on them.

Ogres, my only other army I have really got into actually doing. Like the large models which are easy to customize and, again, not being a modeler the low model count is big bonus. Love the idea of Ogre Cavalry (Super heavy cavalry) as well, so mournfang and mammoth riders is just a yessss.

Demons, Nurgle and Slannesh especially. Not so bothered about the other 2.

Good luck, I really do like the lizardmen, and I think it's worth it, no matter where things go with the game.

Warriors of Chaos, namely Rotbringers, because who wouldnt want to rejoice in the mirthful will of Grandfather Nurgle?

But seriously, Nurgle's warriors have always had a special place in my heart for fantasy, I like the idea of plague ridden warriors rejoicing in their patrons putrid favour and embracing all to their cause.

Also Putrid Blightkings and most of the Nurgle champions kick ass and look cool xD

Rot! Glorious Rot!

I've always felt most naturally aligned with Skaven. I love their fluff and how they play on the battlefield. That said I've never really enjoyed painting them, and these days I tend to gravitate to stuff I actually like to paint.

WHFB The empire, Love history and loved the idea of the holy roman empire vs an horde of orcs

AOS Right now savage orruks, since I like their models and fyreslayers since I really hope for plastic slayer like models which will hopefully be amazing

They told me i was crazy, that i could not win with an army list like that. 2000 points later i found out that they were right

Stormcast

I love the models (especially the Celestial Vindicator paint scheme). Also, since they are more of a beatdown army, they are hopefully quicker to play versus a magic heavy army ss I don't have much time during the week to play (an hour at max for unpacking, playing, and packing up on weekdays). I like Vampire Counts, but it would probably take a good while to play a game (minimum of a couple of hours) because of their play style.

If/when I do AOS armies they will be: seraphon, fyreslayers and chaos.

Really hoping the rumored fyreslayer release is as epic as it sounds.
