Well that is a simply beautiful set of minis. This better still be around in a few months... The price is high, but if you can knock 20% of by going through an online discounter it isn't actually too horrific, if there really are 50 minis plus tiles plus rules...

If you think of every death watch guy as a character its really not bad pricing with the discount

Yeah, totally. Genestealer Familiars are a really obscure part of 40K's distant history. There were two, I believe, sculpts made. They're like Snotling sized, but unmistakably Genestealers.

Genestealer Patriarchs are lazy. They just go on speaking tours at local community colleges and take money from being on several company boards.

Aberrants seem to be new, I just flicked through 40k Compilation, WD 145, C: Tyranids 2nd and CJ 40.

Suicide squads are missing from 1st ed... Not looking like they are the much similiar, though.

Also there was a bit of randomness in the old unit entries like 3rd gen Hybrids had a 50% chance of being born with an oviporator. So maybe they split the unit because of this.

I'd take you up on that if I didn't already have dozens of models to build and get table-ready.... man.

I was wrong, three sculpts as per AndrewGPaul's link.

 angelofvengeance wrote:
Aberrants old school too or are they new? Don't think I've seen any models from back in the day for those.

Definitely new, and a nice thing to add to the fluff for them as well. I love the idea that some of the Hybrids don't work out quite right, not forming the usual 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Generations that are all quite distinct in how they differ from one another. These guys are almost like the bits between each generation, like the odd one here that falls through the cracks and takes on far more of the original Purestrain's form, whist still clearly being a Hybrid but without the human-like intelligence.

Very cool idea. The 4 minis lack the variety I'd like to see (the two with the picks appear to have duplicated arms, which is a bit sad), but they are a very cool concept. Almost Genestealer meets an Ogre in a weird kinda way.

Aberrants are definitely new but really their existence is kind of logical; for all that the Hive Mind is awesome at genetic engineering, 'stealers only have their own pocket hives to do the heavy lifting so occasional incompatibility between the brood-seed and the host should be inevitable. Really it's a miracle the whole thing works at all, even with Hollywood genetics, so occasional bugs are totally in line.

I thought GC's were a pretty stupid idea before, and I didn't care for the old models (and the limo would be highly out of place in 40k), but these models are simply, awesome.

I hope this is around for awhile. I'm on a no purchasing pledge for now, but I may break it for this

Bob Olley who did most (all?) of the original models had done an unreleased GC Ogryn type though. I am looking for the blog posts.

Wasn't there mutants of a sort? I seem to remember brood mutants that were petty much suicide troops.

When GW makes bad models (Fyreslayers, Wulfen) they do deserve the scorn and derision they get.

When they get it right, they deserve to bask in our adulation.

I really like the cult figures (would never have imagined that they would actually become a reality). Those heavy worker suits of theirs just scream out to be used in warbands and various conversions. I can't wait to see what cool stuff people comes up with, and that's just for use outside of actual genestealer cults.

While the cultists is a homerun, the marines is a bit uninspired. Models look good in and of themselves, but it's really not playing to what IMO makes deathwatch interesting. How many from the first founding chapters again? And how flanderized can you get? Raven guard dude with lightning claws and jump pack? White scar biker? Robed Dark angel? Wow, never seen that before

Anyay, that's a small gripe. At least those marines can be split up and used as characters in other armies and we can easily make our own deathwatch team with a more inspired selection of chapter representatives. The cult are the true stars of this release and they are mouthwatering.

Really, really impressed with these- the cult models are fantastic and the painting is just gorgeous. I wasn't a big fan of the old cult and I hated the purple scheme but these are wonderful- definitely getting this and looking forward to seeing the brood lord/patriarch. The marines are pretty nice as well and I'm not a big fan of marines. Very impressive.

Actually I'm not a fan of the painting scheme on the cult compared to the box. Ill be going old school

I have a thing about purple schemes.. they just look wrong.. *twitches*

And there is the Patriarch- impressive- nice divergence from the other two [although they all seem to like perching on things..]

This is a private commission - done by Bob Olley - painted by Mr. Saturday

http://forum.oldhammer.org.uk/viewtopic.php?p=69033#p69033

Today sees a long overdue addition to the cult in the shape of brother Faust. He's a 2nd generation hybrid, and a big fellow at that. That's a ripper gun he's got there, so he'll operate as support for his smaller brethren. A fun model to paint, I do love the ribbed armour. Here he is with one of his smaller fellows.

There's probably some ogryn DNA is there somewhere. Heck, that's probably his granddads gun. I'm looking forward to getting some game time in with him. Praise the allfather!

Yep, it's a private commission. OOP now.
