So any unit under the void shield zone are protected by the void shields. So if a unit of pathfinders targets a unit inside the void shield zone, scores 2 hits but the hit is transferred to the void shield instead. Does that mean the void shield has 2 markerlight counters? If that is the case, can I target the void shield generator and make use of those marker tokens to increase my BS?

Markerlight his hit the projected void shield instead of the target unit in the void shield zone.

A projected void shield is not the void shield generator (or any other target unit) though, so I don't see how you could use any tokens in that way.

No because there is no save to transfer. The void shield comes into effect when a wound or penetrating hit takes place.

The Void Shield Generator rules seem to disagree with you:

"Any shooting attack that originates from outside a Void Shield Zone and hits a target within the Void Shield Zone instead hits the projected void shield."

The projected void shield would get markerlight tokens... which has no practical effect since you can't target the projected void shield and thus can't actually ever use the markerlight tokens.

In effect, units under a projected void shield from a void shield generator are practically immune to markerlights.

Watch, now people are going to start putting VSG in their lists baseline.

How about picking the void shield generator as the target for "killing blow", would you also get a reroll armor pen on the void shields? I think you would since if the void shield generator is destroyed the void shields are also destroyed. Also, i think void shields are part of the void shield generator being an upgrade to it and all.

IDK what Killing Blow is but the VSG building is in the 12" the void shield projectors gives so it benefits from it so you'd still have to get through the void shields first.

Killing Blow would have zero effect since it only works on Armour Saves. Since Void Shields do not provide an Armour Save, Killing Blow does nothing additional against them.

Great, better than spending in stuff that kills my Tau

And some S7 will be enough to down them

A 50 pt fortification is hardly going to break the bank. And any reduction in your ability to use ML is a win. And your S7 are going at BS3, so have fun with that.

The VSG can be destroyed without ever collapsing one of the void shields if the shot is within 12" of it.
Killing blow lets you reroll any to wound and armor penetration rolls.

Void shields are just special wargear for the VSG being an upgrade to it and all. Making the void shields just part of the VSG model. This is further supported by the void shields not having a model unlike gun emplacements and it being destroyed when the VSG is destroyed. Thus, my reasoning that any markerlight hits on the void shields can be used when targeting the VSG and killing blow working on the void shields if the debuff is on the VSG.

So please, correct me if I am wrong. But doesn't the VSG work in this way.

Take a stormsurge.. shooting at something under a VSG.

Stormsurge would target the unit (thus getting any markerlights on that unit)

Unit now has the benefit of having i think an AV12 free shield. So surge fires his s10 blast first, pens the shield.. shield is broken.. rains hell on the guys underneath.. all using the same markerlight tokens.

Going back to the pathfinders firing those markerlights..
Markerlights don't care what your save or armor is. The pathfinders are still targeting the unit, and since no wound/pen rolls are rolled, the VSG does not come into play.

I will double check my stronghold book, but I am pretty sure on this.

After checking my book...

Ignore everything I said above =D

The key here is that it says any "hits" on the targeted unit are instead directed at the void shield.

So as a few have said, it essentially immunes targets to marker light hits.

That said. I doubt we will see a sudden surge of VSG, tau have less need for marker lights now, and we have plenty of options to glance/pen av12.

Cheers!
