So the "battle box" deal for skitarii leaked. Sadly it has nothing to do with objective secured. Its actually kind of a disapointment. An army that has access to bs 7 6 and 5 potentially in the game hardly needs a reroll failed hit rule.
Edit: On closer inspection, its not bad at all. Its free, units you will probably be using, and every turn without the hinderence of -ws modifiers. Also good to get another unit that wont die to gets hot from 9 plasma shots (probably)

I hope that most of these formations are like this one. Little to no restrictions other than needing to have the units in it. That way, if I wanted, I could replace the Terminator Captain from the SM formation with a AA Captain with a Storm Shield. Hopefully the Tyranids one doesn't require the Hive Tyrant to be a walking type.

It's gona say that you get bonuses for your flyrant footslogging with a regular speed of 6". They're evolving from explictly flying to finally walking on foot - a thing long forgotten.

Not bad at all. Another way for me to get the CM models I like without having to field the ones I don't (servitors and suckpriests).
I'll probably stick with the Kastellan maniple though.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

A single Onager rocking a Icarus Array with re-rolls as well as another unit of Vanguard with Plasma Calivers with t-linked is pretty good, all without being forced to use a DI. Also, if you run Dragoons or Sicarians in the rest of your force, you'll be using the WS buffs at some point, and having re-rolls on a portion of your force might not be a bad thing.
I think the formation has its uses, but tbh, I'm just happy I can use a Dominus in a smaller Skitarii force. It's a sweet model, and being included in this boxed set is just pure gravy to me.

It still frustrates me that they printed two separate books, instead one despite constantly treating it as one army. My skitarii just don't know the mechanical love of a Tech Priest's cold tingly touch.

There's a rumor that a combined Codex comes this year with 2 more Battle Bots and a Flyer.
The Salt Mines aren't running dry, but it IS something GW would do to cash in.

Does the Dominus formation data sheet include all their characteristics, point costs, upgrades, etc?

We don't know yet. But I don't see why the box would. This isn't Stormclaw or Shield of Baal where it's meant to be a pseudo-starter set for two players. I would imagine that they expect you to buy TWO codexes and rulebook to play with your toys and be a good consumer

It might just have a quick reference sheet with pre-set equipments and just enough rules for you to use them.
If you want customizability, you'll probably need the codex and rulebooks.

It would be just like they did to the Imperial Knights, by replacing books so soon.

Was the knight codex invalidated by the new codex, or is it possible to still play with the old one using a Paladin or Errant and still be more or less the same ruleswise?

In terms of the mini's rules, the Errant and Paladin stayed the same I think.
However the formations and detachments changed, as well as the whole concept of Seneschal and such (those are granted based on formations and warlords now I think rather than by a dice roll).
Basically only the two unit profiles remain unchanged.

You can use the data sheets from the first codex, but none of the warlord traits or seneschal rules.

Just like any codex, some stays the same some changed. I bought the books to play full Knight armies just as I bought the Skitarii to play a full army.
