Subject: What ships would you like see come to X wing next?
my concern with them doing the prequel ships would be what happened to Star Trek Attack wing. they released the Enterprise Era ships (pre-TOS) and I liked the NX class so I got a few. playing against others was difficult especially if you hadn't organised pre game that we were using this era of ships. 90% of the time I was tabled quickly because that era of ships move slower than the TOS and beyond ones.
that's my two cents on FFG introducing the prequel stuff.

Also put me down for the Skipray Blastboat - is that the gunboat folks are asking for?
It's on the most-requested list. The four main guys are:
1) Missile Boat
2) Assault Gunboat (an Imperial ship I am unfamiliar with)
3) Skipray Blastboat
4) Mara Jade as a non-Imperial Card.

It's from the old X-Wing and TIE Fighter games. And it needs to be in the tabletop game asap.
There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

See, there's the thing that shows up thw two "populations" of X-wing gamers. What you're saying is perfectly valid, from the point of view of X-Wing as a game. On the other hand, as a simulation of Star Wars fighter combat, I'd like the Gunboat, Advanced, YT-2000 even if they are effectively "reskins" of existing stats.
The TIE/ad "Avenger"* just looks better than the version Darth Vader flies, which is enough of a reason to include it in the game as I need!
* IIRC, technically "Avenger" was a codename for the TIE/ad specifically fitted with a tractor beam, not for the craft as a whole.
The Assault Gunboat was added to the X-Wing computer game as something more challenging for the player to defeat than TIE Bombers. It's tougher, has shields and a hyperdrive and carries more warheads. While it's main cannon armament is equivalent to the TIE Bomber (2 lasers) it also carries a pair of ion cannon. It's about as tough as a Y-Wing, carries more warheads and is somewhat faster and more agile.

Thing is, unless there is an in-game difference there is no reason for FFG to invest the resources in creating whole new models. That's what aftermarket developers and conversions are for.
Now, what I would do to create an "Avenger" would be to make a TIE/ad title for the Advanced which allows you to perform tractor beam attacks before a primary weapon or missile attack (but you still have the 2 Attack Primary). However, I'm still not certain if this is enough to make developing a new model worth it, or even enough to make the ship different from the TIE/D Defender.

Oh, there is a reason; I pointed out what it was. Now, whether it's sufficiently compelling for them to do it is a different matter. I don't think that TIE Fighter fanboys or obsessive completists (the sort of person who owns Bren Carriers and Universal Carriers for their WW2 army because they're not the same thing!) are enough of a market to make one, sadly.
Still, I've got a box of teeny tiny ones (and Assault Gunboats) I can use for Armada, so I'll have to console myself with those.
The TIE Avenger could of course offer different pilot options, though that was obvious...
A few people mentioned the Avenger having been fitted with a tractor beam, there's potential there for an extra upgrade slot, the idea being that the extra space on the craft doesn't necessarily have to be fitted with a tractor beam.
(All this of course coming from me a TIE fanboy ... but it could be viable.)

Honestly I'm most curious what they're going to do for scum. They're pretty much out of "official" ships and characters (as in, from the movies themselves). Come to think of it, we haven't really even seen anything in Rebels that would fit the bill for scum. Probably why they're milking the Jumpmaster info reveal.

I think that Sabines friend had a havoc bomber, which also appears in Armada. I could see that appearing (another large ship, unfortunately).

There's also the ship the Death Gang appear on in TFA, pretty generic but it's there. If we see some more of Hondo Onakha's pirates in Rebels (and I really hope we do), their ships that are pretty much flying saucers might be a cool addition.

This post made me realize I was a bit premature in mentioning Rebels, since I haven't finished the first part of this season yet.

Surely you'd need more than just 1 ship per faction to do those, though? I'd love to see the Resistance and FO expanded, as I really don't want to mix them with Rebs/Imps but absolutely need a T-70 or two. I wonder if FFG can work from any of the concept art and such or not.

The thing is, why would they release a Poe-skinned T-70 when his card wouldn't be in the box? I know that most people who will buy this box will have bought the starter set, but eh.

Yeah, it would have been nice to have a black X wing with Poe's card. Isn't there concept art of a fancy looking Y wing for TFA? I sure there will be some ships they can work with.

They could always re-release the card with the set. In the past they have included duplicates of generics, but with both of the current generics for the T-70 already seeing release in the Core and the single expansion why not re-use Poe alongside a new pilot or two? Speaking of which, are Snap Wexley and Jesska Pava Blue Ace and Red Ace respectively?

There's a reason the armies switched over to X-wings and tie fighters, the other ships shouldn't have been as fast, as maneuverable, as hard hitting, and the flying of those ships should be represented as such in the game.
People continue to say this and they continue to be wrong. I mean half the ships in the game are prequel era or older as it is: Y-Wing, Z-95, YT-1300, YV-666, HWK-290, Firespray/Slave I, Punishing One, etc. I believe the upcoming Ghost is a clone wars era vintage as well. The reason for the switch to TIE fighters was political, they were intentionally designed to be inferior to the designs in service with the clone armies as Imperial doctrine called for quantity over quality and wanted to minimize the damage that could be done by defectors and rebels. The reason for X-Wings was because they were in fact superior designs to TIE fighters and were better suited to rebel doctrine.
Were also bound to see the Scurrg H-6 Bomber show up, as it made it into Armada and is the only one of those ships not present in game (and is yet another prequel era design).
Quite a few other prequel era designs show up in canonical works set during the GCW era as well. One of the recent Marvel comics has N-1s fighting against TIE fighters after the Battle of Endor. Theres a book that has the rebels using old Trade Federation Lucrehulk class battleships against the Empire. There was also now Legends material that featured ARC-170S AND V-Wings post-Endor.
Theres also thr fact that KOTOR era (read 4k years old) Hammerhead-class cruisers show up in Rebels.
People need to get over the idea of Star Wars being scifi and realize its space fantasy. There is no real technological progression, except when it is convenient for story writing purposes.
-Loki- wrote: It's also set between Episodes 3 and 4, and Rogue Squadron wasn't formed until after the battle of Yavin. At that point it was Red Squadron.
In the Legends continuity. Canonically there is no rogue squadron anymore and Disney is free to do with it what it pleases if they do choose to reintroduce it.
I'm expecting Rebel Veterans to be connected with Rogue One. I don't think that it will only be ground focused movie... the cast shot is clearly in a hanger.
And the minipreview trailer thing shows a bunch of rebel soldiers disembarking from oanding craft transports and running into battle. Generally speaking, what has been revealed about the film has all implied a "special mission" war film/heist film more than anything else.
In any case, Id like prequel era content, not just for Xwing but for Armada and Imperial Assault as well. While the films were poor, the history of the period (particularly as spelled out in TCW) and the ship designs were all a hell of a lot more interesting IMO. The staff at FFG seem to have a deep-seeded hatred for all things prequel, which is unfortunate because they apparrently have an exclusive contract and their own personal bias has resulted in a rather large chunk of the fanbase being denied the privelege of prequel-era gaming as a result.

Have to agree with what your saying about the prequel ships. One thing that was good about the prequels was the designs. The fighters and capital ships all looked great IMO.

Not so much one I'd like to see, as one that I think we will see, Rebels this week had a Mandalorian fighter that looked somewhat like a Y Wing cockpit, with backwards facing Scyk wings (that could rotate around the cockpit, like a reverse B Wing) and albeit flown by veterans, comfortably seemed able to dogfight with A Wings (and win too.)

But it's kind of the inbred second cousin of the interceptor, really. That must be a sad family reunion.
I want to see those hot mandalorian starfighters with the swivel-wings. Call it the S-wing. No crew, no missiles, no astromech, just a solid stat line and a good dial.
