Subject: Why are most spelling- and grammar mistakes on here made by Americans?

So I've been noticing a trend lately.
Every thread I go to, I see people from countries where the people don't natively speak english use (semi)perfect grammar and spelling, while I see Americans making mistakes left and right.
What's the reason for this, if there even is one?

Autocorrect. Autocorrect often pluralizes a singular word or changes present tense to past tense or just plain mangles my sentences. I have no idea why. Good old fashioned typos are easier to spot and correct and don't change the nature of a sentence.

for most little mistakes, yes, but I often see Americans (users with American flags, anyway) using the wrong your and there instead of they're and their. I've even seen one someone mix up here and hear once.

I don't speak in perfect grammar, but usually I try to type with good grammar. Other times my grammar is esque due to little quirks in the way I talk.

H.B.M.C.- The end hath come! From now on armies will only consist of Astorath, Land Speeder Storms and Soul Grinders!
War Kitten- Vanden, you just taunted the Dank Lord Ezra. Prepare for seven years of fighting reality...
koooaei- Emperor: I envy your nipplehorns. <Magnus goes red. Permanently>
Neronoxx- If our Dreadnought doesn't have sick scuplted abs, we riot.
Frazzled- I don't generally call anyone by a term other than "sir" "maam" "youn g lady" "young man" or " HEY bag!"
Ruin- It's official, we've ran out of things to talk about on Dakka. Close the site. We're done.
mrhappyface- "They're more what you'd call guidlines than actual rules" - Captain Roboute Barbosa
Steve steveson- To be clear, I'd sell you all out for a bottle of scotch and a mid priced hooker.

It's not just native English speakers but pretty much native language speakers/writers. It's an observed phenomenon by Linguists that people who grew up with a language actually have a weaker understanding of the rules of said language than someone who learned it as a second, third, etc. In our heads we know exactly what we're saying, then when we read back over the sentence because we know exactly what we're saying we overlook errors. Someone who is a non-native speaker I think has a more methodical internal process where they tend to think of what they want to say in their native tongue, then translate that into the non-native. Plus, native speakers come up with slang and other short cuts for saying things (vernacular) that can violate or ignore formal rules, that non-native speakers who probably mostly use the language only in specific circumstances never develop or have no use for.

We're all weak willed and stupid?
I know I'm too busy eating a steak and shooting my assault rifle to type with two hands.

Because Americans vastly outnumber any other group here, so you have a wider spectrum of ages, attitudes and educations than across other groups.
Internet is readily accessible to most Americans, so there's a greater cross-section visible.

Ah, widespread judgments. Those are always fun. Accusing of misspelling but not for being obese or gun crazy? That's a first.

Anyways, I think it's in part that what LordofHats was saying is right on the money. Combine that with how a lot of our young'ins do the shorthand texting, you're bound to see a fair bit of typos.
