Hey guys!

Firstly, thanks Craghack!

Secondly check out this terrain peice i made from the old mines of moria LOTR game starter set. really happy with the way the stone looks.

A last minute addition that is almost my favourite part of this is the streaking effect down the rocks. very subtle and improves the look greatly imo!
for those who are interested, its just seraphim sepia streaked downwards.

i'm also keen on the look that the moss growing on the sides gives. realistic, super happy with it.

the tree is just a wire armature with airdrying clay over it, and clump foliage for the leaves.

The only thing that im not too happy about is the base. i dont know what it is, its just pretty meh. suggestions??
also note, my photography has improved no?

Cheers guys!

Nice work on that terrain piece!

I don't see anything wrong with that base. If you were looking for a little more contrast, maybe give it a dark wash?

Hi Guys!

Thanks Cleatus and Fenix! I put the terrain in the showcase forum aswell, and someone said that the bevel of the base could be improved, aswell as adding some 'knee high' stuff because its a bit flat. i think thats the problem, but its finished now so i wont change it.. lessons learnt for the future though...

i have finished the woods now aswell! im surprising myself with my productivity

not as happy with this piece but i still think that its pretty good, should make my kill team battles much more interesting at least.

the two pieces together with some of the fighting 404th amongst them.

Cheers Guys!

Just saw this in the other Completed showcase forum -- wanted to add I don't mind the straight / square edges at all. A nice change of pace. Good work.

Hi guys,
I have certainly been busy, but I have been unable to update due to my phone breaking so i couldn't take any pictures of what I've been up to.
So without further ado,

I made a light box! i just used baking film to go over the sides and with my new phone, my picture taking ability is really improved.

Remember these guys? yea they have been in need of some love for a long time, so i finished them off

They'll be glad to be finished I'm sure.

Also you may recall these dudes

Who got their base colours painted on just in time for armies on parade, but then didnt get any further than that.

Here's the motley crew.

Particularly proud of the prone AC team who are hiding behind a tree, with some camo netting for extra 'sneaki-ness'

And I have just included a pic of this dude because i Greenstuffed his beard, and put a bit of camo netting on his helmet, not sure if it works or not.

Anyways guys,

What do you think of my new picture taking technique? and what do you think of camo netting on beardy dudes head?

Cheers.

The camo netting is cool. I like it. I don't like the beard as it shows poor hygiene and a lack of discipline in his unit. That's just me though

Holy cow, man! Those bases sure look great, especially the autocannon one, outstanding job

Also, that lightbox seems to work great, I really like the photos' quality with the lights

haha, i think the poor hygiene and discipline just about sums up the regiment.

Lol, I like it. Lots of character.

I imagine troops from your regiment hanging out seedy pub. An lieutenant from my regiment walks in, all snooty and clean and makes some disparaging remark about your men, Some salty sergeant laughs it off and offers to buy my officer and his staff some drinks. My sergeant becomes angry that yours didn't address the officer with the proper respect. Obviously a massive brawl breaks out until the local arbites break it up.

The next day my Lt (with a rather nasty black eye) barges into your COs command post to demand your troops be court martialed. In short, the CO throws him out on his ear. My guys arent all a holes but some of the young officers who went to school at the academy can be a bit... arrogant.

Good job all around. I ike a good plucky guard army.

Thanks dude, i was really proud of how its base came out. the inspiration just kinda hit me when i was making the terrain so i thought i'd whack a tree on their base, to make things cooler.
I also added a bit of clump foliage to their bases which i think improves them greatly.

Hope so, I spent a while painting his face! the beard beast is probably eating all the food he keeps in there when he's 'saving it for later'...

Nice work on the light box, makes all the difference, will have to try one.

Liking the auto-cannon team, is that a extra long barrel for extra power? The details on your bases are really something and make the army come alive.

Also how did you do the camo net on the helmet? looks wicked more of your guys should have that.

Cheers SA! funnily enough the auto-cannon isnt acutally longer, it just seems longer because of being so close to the floor.
Yea i'm glad you like the bases because i've put a lot of thought into them.
I'll do a tutorial on the camo netting for next post

hey guys!
nothing that exciting today. just some pictures of this squad, who also only got painted up to base colours just in time for armies on parade, and then noting happened with them for an age.

so i got them all finished up.

Thought the pose on the autocannon team was pretty funny, the loader has his hand on the other guys back to reassure him, he's doing a great job purging the filthy xenos.

here are two seargeants and the guy with the greenstuff backpack, from way back in the very early days of this thread.

Big John and his hammer is one of my favourite models in the army. He's also been modified to be much taller.

these three dudes are jus there to fill out the numbers, but i thought id take some extra photos because there poses are pretty cool, even if the greenstuff work is letting the team down

But yea that's pretty much it. some armour on the way next. stay tuned, i'm excited to show you guys.

Hey man, a really nice and characterful bunch ye got there! Each model certainly tells its own tale. Nice one on the lighting box also; I will need to apply some of those there krafty skills and build one myself so I can produce some crisp photos.
Particularly like the autocannon team "good work Bob, that's how we do it around here!" .

aha yup, Bob does his best, definitely recommend making a light box they're really useful. You do need 2 or 3 lamps to employ it effectively though.

Anyways guys, this is my chimera revamped.
This is what it used to look like;
Spoiler:

The difference is i chipped the paintwork and added some stowage I bought off ebay. Looks mucjh more fitting of the rough and ready 404th if you ask me.

I also wanted to add some weathering pigments but I just havent got round to buying them yet.

 GloomyFenix wrote:
You could always add some bags, camo nets, boxes and random objects, they always look great and they create that realistic style I personally love.

Lol GF after like 9 months i finally got round to following this advice! cheers, turned out to be good advice in the end

Scions!

I got start collecting Militarum tempestus for christmas and im getting round to painting them now i have got them all primed up.

I was trying to get them to be much more like Tough as old boots special forces guys rather than wannabe spacemarines like the Militarum Tempestus try to be, so I got them a few upgrade bits, such as kevlar vests, DEVGRU heads, laser pointers, and red dot sights (from anvil industry). The boonie hats are from maxmini, and the sergeant has a forgeworld head.

What do you think? I'm glad that the chimera is finally finished. tbh im really pleased with the scions so far too.

Cheers guys, untill next update

Wow, the chimera looks great! I'm glad to have been of some help there

The Scions also look beautiful in that style, it really gives the vibe you're trying to get, gongrats

I do like the original style of the scions (being 40k so gothic themed they go along with that pretty neatly, on a personal opinon) but it's true that they give that "marine wannabe" feel, which is kind of meh~
