Where ever the Emperor needs his eyes

They are going a bit overboard with the bases being like that. I think they need to learn a bit from the Forgeworld Character series with their bases.

Honestly, that's one of the best I've seen in terms of overblown basing. It's fitting with the character and helps enhance the pose by giving it a sense of motion it wouldn't otherwise have. It's also not something that clashes with existing basing, since its not something natural like a rock or impossibly immobile like a rooftop corner.

The most egregious ones are the ones for me where there's no real reason for them to be there. Batman on a gargoyle or Gordon with the Bat-signal or even (just about) Aquaman on his ocean ruins are at least reminiscent of iconic or famous images, for instance, but I don't think Harley gains anything from being on a giant clown head. That's not something you think of when you think of the character, it's just making the model more flashy and bigger.

Funny thing is, I could sort of buy it for a specifically DCU version, where everything lends itself to being a bit overstated and melodramatic. But for the very subtle, almost claustrophobic vibe you want from a street-level Batman game it seems really out of place. It's not a bad model, it just strikes me as really odd.

Call a spade a spade: it's a diorama. Dunno why Knight Models is suddenly pushing dioramas as gaming pieces, but they are NICE dioramas so...

Ironically, today's update specifically calls out the gaming purpose to the larger bases, to do things like boost the radius of a Boss's area effects... So I guess we can expect a lot more characters on pointlessly massive bases going forward.

Because Knight Models knows that most of their minis are sold to painters/collectors...

Maybe I'll get in on this version of the game--which is what I said of the last version, but didn't.

Can't argue with that; I have a bunch of their models but I don't play any of their games.

And now that they’re putting models on giant scenic bases they’re switching to true line of sight! All the locals who have been super into the game just collectively went Nope.

Really? Ouch! Have you discussed maybe homebrewing a few rules, like LOS, to suit tastes, or just playing the previous edition, rather than abandoning the game?

Personally I don't like true LOS myself, because I don't think your model's pose or a raised base or whatever should give you an advantage or disadvantage in the actual game.

I’m not currently playing the game myself. I played in first edition, fell off just before second, started to look at getting back into, was turned off to find out everything I owned was legacy format only, debated updating to new, but then the rumors of third coming made me decide to wait. The other locals are getting into the new Marvel minis game. Will be interested to see how the two do vs each other.

"Most obviously, in order to attack your enemies with ranged weaponry, you must have a good line of sight to your target. To do this, you need to draw a clear line to physical block of the target (the enemy model’s head, body and legs). We ignore arms, weapons, decorative elements and any scenic items on the model’s base for these purposes. The opponent will usually seek Cover behind scenery pieces that completely block or at least partially obscure line of sight, so it’s vital that you find a good vantage point from which to attack."
Taken from Knight's Post

Strange TLOS that discounts the majority of the model.

New Deadshot

Seems to be partly Arrowverse Deadshot inspired.

I'm definitely more on the collectors side of things right now, since my regular DCU opponent is super busy. So, I'm kinda pretty happy with the mega ornate display models, though it has taken me literalyl a month to paint my Anniversary Batman.

I just need to be brave enough to work on his cape.

I've not touched mine yet for much the same reason lol. Although I have kids, which means I have made my own opponents lol.

The cape has been kinda easy for me, Kantor Blue and Night Lords blue really help, but its still slow going.

I just put together the new Wonder Woman and she's great. You could easily get her on a smaller base.

New Suicide Squad box was great also, except that Deathstroke's sword is the thinnest excuse for a piece of resin I have even seen. I think I will replace the blade. Also his knife came snapped off, so Im just gonna take a Knife bit I have laying around and glue it to the sheath.

Diorama Bases got you down? Trying to figure out how to cut the models to make them more reasonable? Don't worry, Knight has you covered.

Much better. Still definitely some size creep with regular humans being on 40mm bases, but certainly an improvement over carrying a diorama round with them.

They also mentioned on Facebook that their 'plastic' (presumably still plastic resin, not hard plastic) is an improved substance. I've been pretty happy with the current stuff in terms of holding detail, but if this new stuff is a little sturdier and less brittle that can only be a good thing (*glances at the Raven mini that broke at the ankle once before painting, twice during and once after...*)

Where ever the Emperor needs his eyes

Yeah the improved Resin/Plastic could be nice, I've had limited issues with the current, but its mostly good.

Biggest most glaring issue is that the new Deathstroke's sword feels barely thicker than flash, and was super warped. So the blade is prime for getting replaced. His knife was also broken, but I didnt care for that anyway and now he's punching. I'll put a knife handle on the sheath

Worth noting there's advantages and disadvantages to base size. Being smaller makes you easier to hide, but the larger models create a larger radius for auras, notably inspire, which is now what largely makes you henchmen function.

3e Starter Box has gone up for Preorder.

Brave and the Bold has, Batman, Gordon, Bullock and Cops.
Joker has Joker, Harley, Thugs and Deadshot as a Free Agent.

All that and the rest for $170.

They also showed off what they have for Black Friday.

Bane as Batman

Various Batmen, and Bruce Wayne, who if its like the Tourney Kit comes with a Matches Malone Head and Card.

I need that BatBane! Will be picking that up Friday, not sure I can stretch to the starter set until next year

2nd is just over 2 years old so no worse than a GW edition change really. It's not necessary but the changes look really neat and bringing it into a far more modern game IMO, I just want to see the full rules now so I can play

DC:90S++G+++MB+IPvsf17#++D++A+++/mWD409R+++T(Ot)DM+

I mainly play 30k, but am still fairly active with 40k. I play Warcry, Arena Rex, Middle-Earth, Blood Bowl, Batman, Star Wars Legion as well

Free shipping to USA is busted it seems which is stupid annoying.

They said it'd be fixed by 16:00 but typical Knight we have no idea which timezone that is.

Gonna have to wait until tomorrow to order and HOPE that everything is still in stock.

GW is generally four years between editions.

That's an amazing model/diorama, and as usual KM's photography is brilliant. What is going on though? Is this something that happened in the comics?

GW is completely variable between editions. 6th - 7th was about 2 years, AoS to AoS 2.0 was about 2 years I think, and there’s rumours of 9th 40k next year which would be 2 years as well I think.

If I remember correctly its from Forever Evil, when Gotham was under the control of the Villains.

Also, Militia is no longer a Tab in the Drop Down menu. Their Batbox has been merged with Bane, and the combined forces are now called Soldiers of Fortune. This pleases me.

Oh dang, that does suck. But the more I think of it, the more I think that the Militia is being merged with them so they have a nice place to go while the Arkham Series based stuff is killed off.
