HIV cannot be compared to the Genestealer virus apart from subtlety. The Genestealer virus won't kill you in a considerable amount of time, hell, its not even a huge threat in human populations outside the Imperium, but inside, its beyond heresy....

A 'stealer isn't going to infect one half of a couple if it has the opportunity to infect both. Because then their dwelling becomes a safe refuge and the couple's resources are at its disposal to start building its infrastructure (aka the 'cult')
