Subject: Re:If your girlfriend or wife was infected by a genestealer would you still procreate?
Leaving aside the frankly horrible ethical implications of having sex with someone infected with a behaviour altering parasite, for purely selfish reasons I would not do it.
If I have sex with her, I lose my agency and become a slave to my horrible mutant offspring. No thanks.
But anyway. This thread is awful and we should all feel awful.
Caederes wrote: @Wyzilla, so if a person is drugged up beyond all recognition and their mind is completely gone or simply replaced because they are so utterly doped out that they can never string a coherent though together again, is it consensual? If a perfectly normal person suffered from brain damage and was left hospital bound for the rest of their life with no comprehension of anything going on around them, is it consensual? Your logic with regards to Genestealers actively wiping the personality/mind of the host and it somehow still being consensual "because they are a different person" is disturbing at best and utterly disgusting at worst. While it is a unique case because the Genestealers essentially replace the mind of the host, the original person is still being raped. If I am being mind controlled to have sex with another person that I would otherwise never sleep with, is it consensual on my part? The answer is an unequivocal NO.
Automatically Appended Next Post: And with that, I'm out. This thread can wallow in the depths of its own depravity. Shame on you OP.
No, because they have entered a state similar to somebody with dementia where their brain cells have simply been slaughtered by a chemical cocktail. The issue with a Genestealer is that it does not temporarily change the chemicals in the brain like a drug, thus making some functions simply impossible (like consent), but flips a biological switch and sends the host into overdrive in a lust for more children (almost a bit like what happens to us already, only dialed up to eleven). It is consensual because they completely desire it, and no harm comes to them in the process (indeed, a genestealer corrupted human is more likely to be the rapist as they desire more children, thus driving them to stalk for more "mates"). This isn't a drug that either permanently kills off so much of your brain you're rendered a drooling incoherent incompetent or a temporary muddling of judgement so you'll wake up tomorrow with an STD's a crying liver from copious amounts of ingested alcohol. This is a complete change of the mind itself so from there on your logical thought process demands you sire offspring. You aren't being raped, because you want it with every essence of your being. This isn't a drug you wake up from and suddenly regret your decisions, the Genestealer permanently renders you a nymphomaniac. That is you, the definition of you, and thus all actions taken are consensual, because you yourself initiated them on your own initiative, by your own logic.
And if somebody with dementia wandered up to me in the street and asked for sex, I would not have sex with them. And I damn sure hope you wouldn't either, because they are not in control of their thoughts.
How is permanently altering someone's thoughts different to the surgical example given above?
Regretting it the next day is not what makes it rape, and I'm really scared that you think it is.
Why must I always choose beween certain death and probable death.

Also you guys are all forgetting just how hot and attractive your girlfriend/wife is.
Like Amy Adams hot. Or XXX (whoever you want) hot. And they want it now.
I highly HIGHLY doubt anyone here can resist that.
Nope. All your children forever. Also, you don't care about how hot your girlfriend/wife/beard is. You no longer have a choice about sex. You must have it. Have fun being raped over, and over, and over again by the alien parasite controlling your every move.
Except you aren't being raped. The brain change is a permanent alteration changing your mental pathways so you become a nymphomaniac. Everything is consensual because the current state of being is consumed by lust.
If you drug somebody so that they became consumed by lust and seem like they really want sex, then have sex with them, IT IS STILL RAPE.
If you happen to stumble across somebody in a bar whom you know somebody else has drugged so that they become consumed by lust and seem like they really want sex, then have sex with them, IT IS STILL RAPE.
The fact that you can't see why this situation is rape, and the multiple ways in which several posters have pointed out why the OP is gross, is one of the reasons we need better sex-ed in our schools.
CONSENT, BY SOMEONE IN CONTROL OF THEIR POWERS OF REASON, IS WHAT MAKES IT SEX AND NOT RAPE.
Nope. Brain chemistry is altered. This is no different than how you are a completely different person from when you are an adult to a child, or how a person with a mental illness is completely unrecognizable from a saner, younger version of themselves in the past. You are physically incapable of not giving consent because a Genestealer turns you into an insane nymphomaniac. It isn't rape because it is what YOU desire, as your brain has been irreversibly altered by being directly rewired so you experience nothing but pleasure, and desire nothing more than endless sex to spread you alien tainted DNA. It would be rape if you were still conscious of your original thought patterns and hated/tried to resist being a nympho but were pushed to it regardless. However, this is not how Genestealers function, because they basically kill your old identity and create a new incarnation that will blindly slave itself to the greater good of the hive mind.
You are in control when a Genestealer mutates you, and you are constantly consenting, because the only thing you desire now in existence is siring as many children as possible for the Hive.
This is the true horror of the 'stealers and the reason why this thread's premise, though badly worded, is still valid.
The person you loved is essentially gone, now a genestealer is wearing her body. There is no way to get her back.
She still acts like the person you loved, occasionally, and enough to pass for her in public.
It;s not her anymore though.
That's the next level, Twilight zone, body snatcher horror.
Behind the teenaged ' heheheh, would you still do her, huh?' there is a valid question of: how loyal are you to the woman she once was?
Will you willingly report to the Arbites what appears to be, body and soul, your beloved? Will you try and make do, pretend life is normal, just to be with her, in some way?
Can you get your head around the idea that she is truly gone or will you act as if she is still there, held prisoner by an alien intelligence ( as some people ITT with overactive rape/misogyny detectors seem to suggest) and be loyal to what remains?
Men deal with the violent hormonal swings of their partners, where it seems like the sweet girl is not there at all- and remain loyal until the chemicals subside and she collapses Bruce Banner like into your arms, feeling guilty for how she acted and grateful you stood by her.
She;s acting different now, but this will pass right? Then you'll be a happy family again.
And thus the world is consumed by hive fleets.

'Would you have sex with someone who doesn't have a choice?' doesn't require that active a rape detector.
If the question was just 'would you turn her in to the arbites?' that would have been less gross. (Presumptive, but less gross).
The stuff about hormonal swings was painful to read.

You're validating my argument. You are still viewing the Infected Significant Other(ISO) as a human under duress/influence rather than a tool of the hivemind, bent on undermining Imperial resistance.
That is precisely the sentimentality that would likely keep people (admittedly myself included in all probability) from turning the ISO over to the authorities.
Therein lies the horror of the situation and that of 40k in general, the correct choice is always horrible and repugnant to us.
Crystal-Maze wrote: If the question was just 'would you turn her in to the arbites?' that would have been less gross. (Presumptive, but less gross).
I agree.
The fact that it included the possibility of sex with the ISO was unnecessary but it did draw out all this wonderful Star Trek next generation style morality we have seen with people arguing 'you can't do that, she's a woman not in control of her faculties'
Is it rape/cheating if you have a body swap/alternate universe clone ? was surely at least five episodes of TNG.
EDIT: And the HOLODECK=- man I nearly forgot about LaForge and his hologram waifu of a real live person.
Remember how disgusted and betrayed she was to find a hologram of herself in a little black dress, ready to have a romantic dinner?
Infected humans still are individuals in their own right. Their brain has been altered, and is now linked to the Genestealer Brood Mind, but they still retain their memories, emotions and intelligence.
It could be an interesting study to identify how much of the original human remains and how much has been altered.

....Said the Adeptus Mechanicus Magi, John Hammond, putting hybrids in a bottle for study.
This is closely linked to zombie ethics and undead rights. Are they still people? Is it ok to kill them on sight or do you have to wait until it is justified self defense?
If you stop them from infecting other humans, are you denying them their reproductive rights?
These are the kinds of things that it would be nice to debate, but not in the middle of a zombie apocalypse.
In fact Kryptmann's understanding of the hive fleets, mind and xenobiology that allowed the Imperium to develop countermeasures so study is clearly important. The Imperium so rarely finds the time to study its enemies much like a man whose throat is in danger of being ripped out by several rabid wolves probably won't be able to identify the exact numbers, gender or breed of his assailants.

Of course the context is important. But this isn't a zombie apocalypse, an infected human is a threat, but not an overwhelming one, after all it is only a human.

The ham-fisted superimposition of a 40k context does little to mask what the question is likely really considering. What this reeks of is the consideration of the scenario of "a SUPER HOT woman who really wants it from you," by a demographic of, on average, socially awkward young men, who probably don't encounter that experience often and thus find it so titillating. That it is being masqueraded as a legitimate question by painting it up in gaming lore is tremendously sad.
This thread is a perfect demonstration of why gamers are so stigmatized.

At that point, I feel the need to quote X-men 2, of all things. "Never trust an attractive woman if she is interested in you."

Wouldn't happen. Before you knew it, you'd have chaos-worshipping genestealer hybrids. It's happened before. So often it was an option in their rules last time around.

It could happen, even Chaos cults like to duke it out with each other and the Patricarch, Chaos corrupted or not, isn't going to bow down to a daemon wannabe.
