Draigo is pretty great. On top of his great stats, he gets Gate of Infinity always, which nets you quite a bit of utility.
Stern is... okay. Guaranteed Sanctuary is nice, but I'm not sure if it's better than just taking a Librarian.
Crowe, the model that got me into Grey Knights (and really, 40k as a whole)... is not good. I wouldn't bother with him. He's pretty good at challenges, but he's more expensive than the (superior) Librarian and doesn't bring nearly as much utility.
I've played around with the idea of attaching him to a huge Black Templar Crusader squad (as Warlord, so they get Hammer of Wrath) and letting him cast Hammerhand, but that's a terribly inefficient way to use him.

I like to play Crowe sometimes for a fluffy Purifier army. Now that he is an independent character (in the previous codex he couldn't join any units) I just throw him in a Stormraven with Purifiers and give my opponent the biggest target imaginable... He's not competitive in the slightest though.

Crowe is literally one of the worst designed units in 40k's history.
Draigo is pretty cool. A S7/9 AP2 Force Weapon is NOTHING to sneeze at, seeing as he can teleport around and get around the issue of being on foot. EW is awesome as well.

Devestating Grey Knight Dreadknight
|
Competitively, I tend to take as many detachments as allowed to maximize the number of dreadknights I have. I'll throw in Draigo if I have the points for another DK but not the force org slots.
I personally think the best allies are SM centurions in drop pods, they maximize your alpha strike and give you AP2 shooting which Grey Knights have almost none of. I've allied in a couple variants at 1850:
Red Scorpions allied detachment (505 pts)
Loth
5 scouts
Drop pod
3 grav centurions
Sentinels of Terra allied detachment (660 pts)
ML2 Librarian
5 scouts
3 grav centurions (elites)
3 grav centurions (heavy support)
With the first variant I use guaranteed invisibility+shrouding in ruins to drop my units in close and weather the shooting before I can assault (4 dreadknights, I used 2 nemesis strike forces). With the second variant I take Draigo as part of a CAD and use him to gate one squad of cents while the other comes in via pod and I shunt my 3 dreadknights for a turn 2 assault. Both options have decent mobility and damage, so you don't have to commit to the alpha strike if you don't want to and are roughly 2/3 GK in points so I feel like I'm still playing primarily Grey Knights.

So only draigo is deemed worthy of the battlefield xD.
I see a lot of loth, tiggy in builds are our own libs not good enough or do we choice them for the certain spells they provide?
Also see lots of lists with inquisitor and skulls why is this?
Also Never wee stormshiels while we are allowed to take Them on justicars/paladin

There's two reasons... one is that you need an HQ to ally in Centurions or Drop Pods, so why not pick a unit that gives warp charges and thus enhances your psychic phase? And two, yes some HQs such as tiggy give certain spells that are otherwise difficult or 'random chance' to get. Mainly, invisibility.
arthorn wrote:

Grey Knights lists like to teleport/deep strike. Our old codex had servo skulls to help make Deep Striking more accurate and to prevent enemies from infiltrating/scouting into the mid field where we like to deploy. Now that the new codex is out, GK players have inquisitors and servo skulls without a home, so they just ally them into the GK list and use them as they did before.
You might want to recheck the codex. We can't get storm shields except for Draigo.

Crowe is actually good - probably the best CC character in the game for his cost. Comes stock with cleansing flame and hammer hand...Has amazing combat stats (virtually always strikes first - even vs eldar) rerolls all his saves in CC and has ap2. Mastery lvl 2. I see a lot of peps saying a libby is better - well - libby is good but cleansing flame is without a doubt the best spell in sanctict and he comes stock with it.
I'm not suggesting not taking a libby - you should take one - lots of people take two. You should consider crowe here sometimes I think. Esp if you are running a LR or a SR with an assault unit. Libbies suck in CC - crowe is amazing in CC. The loss of a warp charge is not a big deal as you should have well over 12 in any list and you gain a good host of spells automatic and stronger CC potential for about the same cost. This is when it's good to have halbreds...activate force and watch a wraithknight die.

Yeah - that is a pretty big drawback worth noting - but - you are probably winning the combat anyways with your purifiers if they don't accept your challenge.

Does it have a price associated with the storm shield? Where does it say that a character can purchase it? The fact that it is in the special wargear section just means that it exists in the army (Draigo has one) and thus they provide the rules for it.

No prices as all the special issue wargear(page206 in the pdf For ss). However it is listed there without any restrictions so would mean paladin and justicar could get them at the price as given in brb!

Thats why I can confused any one any thoughts?
Also is using gates of Inf and shunting causing interceptor fire? And can you assault of gates of inf(I would say no since it counts as ds, but I have seen people do it)

I don't understand why ANYONE would be defending Crowe.
1. Yes he comes with a super cool Nova Power in the form of Cleansing Flame. So does a minimum squad of Purifiers, and they will have the same amount of movement. Any investment towards Crowe is an investment towards more Purifiers.
2. He doesn't even have Force on his sword. It's literally a regular CCW.
3. Who cares if he's okay at challenges? If you refuse, you're being hit by 3-4 S4 AP- attacks!
4. A ML3 Librarian with the one relic will get enough rolls that you're basically guaranteed the same powers.
Outside of you specifically needing the HoW Warlord trait (why?), there's zero reason to take Crowe. Just use his model for a Sergeant or a character from ANY other SM codex.

I'll give you the page number in a couple hours when I reach my codex. But I know for sure that Storm Shields are not purchasable by any GK model. The only model in the codex that has one is Draigo. When a codex entry says 'may take items from the Special Issue Wargear list' it is referring to a particular page that lists items and their points cost. Storm Shields are not on that list.

There are no Storm Shields listed in the Grey Knight Wargear List, which has the costs for each item available to GK units to purchase as upgrades. The Grey Knight Armory does include a Storm Shield entry, because Draigo has a Storm Shield, and the Armory has the rules for each piece of wargear used by a GK unit.
Grey Knights lost access to Storm Shields on GKT when the 5th Ed codex came out. The current codex was released in 6th, with again Draigo as the onky one having the single chapter relic that is the Grey Knight's only Storm Shield. My guess is that post-Chapter House law suit, GW at the time of the 5th Ed GK codex release did not include wargear options that did not have a physical model in the game. This is probably the biggest reason why only certain armies are getting regular updates, while the rest do not.

Grandmasters suffer from not being Librarians or Draigo.
They're the only good HQ outside the Librarian though. Stern is...okay in that he gets Sanctuary immediately, but that's about it.

Crowe is an amazing HQ, but only if you are bringing grey knights as am allied detachment. Crowe attached to any other squad is a force multiplier of the first order.
Look at your honor guard, now look at crowe, now look back, all your relic blades are now S8 AP3 at initiative thanks to hammerhand. and he still gets to set everything on fire with his mind with mastery lvl 2.

Great point - the only unit that really works with crowe in the GK army is purifiers - with which he doesn't really have much synergy. Throw him in a unit like BA death company and you have an insane CC squad that can pretty much take on anything in CC with a boat load of high str attacks from hammer hand/ rage/ furious charge/ and someone to shut down an insane HQ.

Yeah, I never thought about putting Crowe into a non-GK unit before. He does actually fit well with some units. And being one of the few Power Armor options for GK HQ means he'll fit into transports better.

A fluffy yet still crunchy Crowe list is an NDF with 4 full squads of Purifiers with Rhinos, a 5man squad of Strikers, 2 fast Rhinos, and Crowe. Combat squad the Purifiers and place two of the extra squads in the fast Rhinos, and place Crowe with the Strikes in their Rhino. Gives you 11+1d6 Warp Charges every turn, and 7 Cleansing Flame Rhinos (with Incinerators). Outside of the tin cans, you still have 9 of the best assault units in the GK codex.

Except...any of the HQ's are likely to have Hammerhand anyway. Plus if I'm trying to cast that, I probably won't be able to be as successful with Cleansing Flame.
Stick with any other HQ and leave the Cleansing Flame to Purifiers.
