So with Tomb Kings on clearance and Brettonians by all reports next, what are shops doing with their stock on hand?

Clearance?

Hoarding it to sell as "RARE OOP COLLECTORS ITEMS' on ebay?

Or just leaving it on the shelf?

Are gamers reacting with panic buying or, knowing the game they were created for is dead, avoiding the models?

Tomb Kings are going away. They're in GW's 'Last Chance to Buy' section. No one's said anything about Brets.

The store I got my Warsphinx from just kept selling them as normal. If stock runs out, stock runs out.

When they put Tomb Kings in last chance to buy, Brussels GW did also put up a photo with both Tomb Kings and Bretonnian battalions, saying that it was the last chance to buy those.

My local stores are just leaving them on the shelf. The problem is that most customers are leaving all of the fantasy stuff on the shelf as well. Lots of veterans have been offloading their collections.

The Bretonnian battalion--like most of the Battalions that were Direct Only for awhile--were supposed to have gone away a LONG time ago. They snuck them back into shops around Christmas time and then they were gone again.

They're grinding them into dust and snorting them. Plastic crack got a whole new meaning.

My local shop has all the old d/ced stuff just sitting on the shelves still.

Even paperback army books/codexes from two editions ago are sitting there. LOL.

Stores around me... the only ones that have any fantasy... is the one that stock everything they can and the one that just leave old stock out until it sells... that one still has some Necromunda on the shelves... Both still have some Bretonnians and tombkings. I don't think either of them will liquidate. The stores that only minimally carry GW products have pretty much stopped carrying anything Fantasy or AoS.

I imagine they'll leave it on the shelf for a while, and see if anybody panic buys it. After that, shops with plenty of room will likely just keep it on the shelf at full retail. Those that don't want stale stock will clearance price it and blow it out.

Outside of very small operations, I can't imaging stores hoarding it for eBay sales. Keeping it on the shelf at base retail still nets more.

The last major a product line was discontinued was probably... specialist games? LOTR? Those were both long, lingering deaths, but originally way bigger. An army hasn't been straight up squatted, since, well, squats.

What's the practical use for either line outside of Games Workshop games? For the price I can't imagine many buying the Bretons as stand in medieval warriors, considering the Perrys make similar models of better quality for cheaper; ignoring all the other manufacturers out there too.

The Pegasus knights are pretty unique in the market, certainly in plastic. Much of the Tomb Kings line, being newer, is hard to find in other ranges.

The biggest market for this stuff will be for people finishing armies, not starting them.

I dunno. Some undead egyptians might be useful for other settings - even personal ones - or inclusive rules. From fantasy (hyborian stygians?) to mythical history, to pulp, and so on. Imagine nazis chasing a be-fedora'd archaeologist around a buried city dig site, rounding a corner, and - was ist das!?

I think there's something about it in my sig.

(Though fair enough: I've gone Fireforge for some of me own bretonnian plans)

My local store does have a clearance shelf, that they use to get rid of slow-moving or discontinued product. As far as I can remember, the last whole line to go on clearance was Helldorado, as sad as it was to see it go. When it comes to Warhammer, though, I doubt they'll discount it out. As much trade as they do in GW products (got in stock and sold a Smaug kit once!), it's probably all gone by now anyway.

One of the local shops put them half off.

I notice my posts seem to bring threads to a screeching halt. Considering the content of most threads on dakka, you're welcome.

My store is putting them, and quite a lot of other Fantasy stuff on clearance. Dwarves, Brettonians, Tomb Kings, and even some Chaos Warriors stuff is selling off for super cheap.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

I think that the correct term is now 'Warhammered'.

No one iwll really miss Brettonian models when there is a vast range if historicals that could be used instead. Tomb kings are a more unique product however.

Given how low the prices for Warhammer stuff is on Ebay I can't see many people hording their remaining stock.

Bretonnian pegasus knights are amazing models, but the rest of the range is harder to justify when it comes time to purchase. Tomb Kings on the other hand were fairly unique in the market with only a few Reaper minis in the same design space. The Sphinx is such a great looking kit that I'm surprised GW isn't trying to hold onto it.

I foresee the more outlandish kits, like the Sphinx and the heroes and the snake riders selling out to panic buyers while the infantry kits sit around until they are finally clearanced.

Yeah Bretts, as much as I like their models, are very historical looking... I could just buy historicals to use in 9th age or Kings of War.
A lot cheaper...

I wonder if it gives other sculptors free rein to churn out big armoured sphinx models...

Though without a Tomb Kings faction in AoS, would there be enough demand to drive it?

The stores around here have put all fantasy stuff on 30% off sales, including the new AOS stuff. Most of it is still sitting there after three weeks. The only people buying are finishing old armies off.

Necromunda stuff still on the shelves? What stuff and where is this store?

it's the quiet ones you have to look out for. Their the ones that change the world, the loud ones just take the credit for it.

I always liked the Bret men at arms and archers, they had a lot of whimsy and character that historicals don't.

Use them for all sorts of Inquisition and other conversions.

Use as Empire and Vampire Counts As would probably be a good use.
